I’m not a fan of storing food in plastic containers, so it’s great that these are pro grade stainless steel, BPA free and feature double walled insulation. Let me say right here that I am a huge fan of the new colors Hydro Flask is putting out, very sharp, appealing, and fun.I’ve used this to take hot food to my son’s soccer game, on a road trip, and a few other times. As a scientific inquiry, I primed it with boiling water, added hot food, and then opened it once an hour on the hour to see how long the food stayed warm enough to eat. In my case, that was 5 hours and even then the food had residual warmth. This is not your typical test, so I suspect that the flask can keep sealed hot food for at least the 6 hours Hydro Flask states. The food flasks come in two sizes and retail for about $30 for the 12 ounce and $35 for the 18 ounce. Hydro Flask does offer a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects, so feel confident in acquiring one of these.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Yaktrax Runs had no problem with wide crushed gravel paths, cement bridges, and root-filled singletrack and, while snow filled the space underfoot, no loss of traction was felt. Even walking across the parking lot felt fine. Yaktrax does caution against using these on pavement and ice, which will damage the coils and also lead to possible falls. Apart from those two caveats, I would bet that the Runs would work in most every other situation. If you're looking for a simple addition to your winter running safety gear, consider the Yaktrax Run.

My Go-To Lantern
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Weighing just over a pound, shining up to 250 lumens, with a run time up to 48 hours, this lantern is all you need and easy to bring along on any outing. The light can give you either 180 or 360 degrees of light, which is a nice touch. It even has an emergency light function, though hopefully you''ll never need to use it.

The Lighthouse 250 has 3 ways to recharge: Connect a compatible solar panel like the Goal Zero Nomad 7; plug the Lighthouse 250 into a USB power source before you head out with the integrated cord; or use the hand crank - one minute of cranking gets you about 10 minutes of light on the low setting. Whether you camp or not, having a Goal Zero Lighthouse 250 lantern on hand is smart for any emergency situation you might encounter, as it gives you a charger, light, and emergency strobe in one lightweight and functional package.

Maybe CamelBak's most typical running hydration pack. One extremely useful feature is the adjustability, as the harness comes with hook and loop fasteners for the straps, allowing it to fit varying torso sizes. Extra storage allows nutrition and additional layers to be carried along. While this is a well-built pack, even with the adjustability, it just never felt quite right to me, a little snug.

Neutral Trainer w/ Support + Cushioning
4 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size

I ran in the Wave Rider 17s on pretty much every surface (sidewalk, street, gravel, dirt, grass) and they handled all with aplomb. Initially the sole felt quite stiff, but had already started to soften by the end of the first run. While Mizuno's aim is to have the shoe "disappear," there was actually a pleasant springiness initially -- I almost felt like the shoes were pushing off for me. One negative: to me, the arch area feels a bit narrow, but with some judicious lacing changes they felt all right. Otherwise the shoe had plenty of room in the toe box, felt secure on the heels, and was quite a bit lighter than other shoes I've run in.

Awesome Full-Zip Tech Hoodie
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size

I wanted a full zip tech hoodie for some time, and this one's features along with the great feeling fabric are perfect for me. Things I like are the fit, fabric, thumbholes, secret key/ID pocket inside hand pocket. Something I'm unsure about is the oversized hood - bigger than necessary in my opinion. I've seen reviews that say it runs large and it runs small, but it seems to fit true to size for me.
