Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Fit: Runs small
These are amazingly comfortable shoes. I wore them out of the box and they needed no breaking in whatsoever. The next ride I used the included arch support system and WOW, even better! Giro makes a quality product and these are definitely worth every penny. I have had a difficult time finding MTB shoes that didn't cut into the inside of where my ankle bends. There's a tender spot there from previously wearing ill-fitting shoes that even the slightest pressure will aggravate. I knew immediately these would fit well because they were cut a little lower on the ankle. They are low profile, easy to get on and off, and clean up well. They come with an insert system that allows you to select from three arch supports that integrates into the footbed so you don't have to buy anything extra. Genius!
BUT the best part was Competitive Cyclists amazing customer service! These guys are really helpful and knowledgeable. I really like to shop local when I can, but when I couldn't find these locally and I needed them quickly, they came to my rescue. Give them a call, they are always sweet and helpful!
For size reference, I wear a women's size 8 street shoe and had to buy a 41. The Giro size chart says a 39.5 is a match, but typically I order up a half size to accommodate thick socks. Even the 40.5 was too small. Order up a full size from what you normally wear in a bike shoe at least!
