Justin Rychlicki's Bio

I grew up in Buffalo, NY but always had a desire to move west. In my early 20's I drove out to Colorado and never looked back. I truly fell in love with the outdoors while I was living there. Snowboarding, hiking, camping, backpacking, fly fishing, climbing, biking, trail running... you name it, I've probably dabbled in it.

Recently, my dog Otis and I moved up to Oregon to spend some time in the PNW and so far it's been incredible. I linked up with Backcountry and am loving every second of it! Working in an industry that you love is super fun and I get to talk to interesting people every day. Life is good :)

More officially, I'm an Expert Gearhead & Customer Account Manager here. Basically my job to be the guy that makes sure you get taken care of. I like to think I know my stuff (but I learn more every day) and I like to work hard so that we can all play hard! I have my customer's bests interests at heart and work to be professional and efficient, while still bringing elements of fun and friendliness.

Feel free to hit me up directly anytime... seriously. I would be stoked. I'm always down to talk gear, adventure, outdoors, life, music, breakfast, the weather, so on and so forth.

My pups are happiest when they wear their packs since they are working. I have a mountainsmith for one of mine and this for my other guy since it fits better. Overall, they are both pleased and the palisade a solid, roomy, and most importantly adjustable/comfy pack for the puppers. Easy enough to dial in the fit as well. Now when this comes out, the doggos get really stoked since they know it means adventure time!

This pad gets excellent reviews and I needed a back up for my Big Agnes. Overall, I'm a huge fan of the Therma. Nice and insulating, great pattern for comfort, and good size. I like a thicker pad personally, so this is right up my alley. Very quick/easy to inflate as well... definite winner.

This is a great camping option for freshly ground coffee. I love that you can adjust the coarseness. I picked this up to use with my percolator since it requires some more coarsely ground beans. After a couple minutes of trial and error, I got this dialed in and it is perfect. Freshly ground beans for the win!

This is a great cooler. I just used it for the first time and it kept my stuff cold for 2 nights. It's amazing how much you can fit in this little thing. It's easy to transport and has classic yeti construction. I pair it with one of the yeti cooler bricks and that really helps keep the ice and food/beer cold!

The ultimate trifecta! Everything I look for in a sport draw. After using a friends at Smith Rock last weekend, I finally bucked up and added a bunch of the 17cm to my rack. They were just so easy to clip and have such smooth action, I'm hooked. They are a beefy draw but don't pack on too much weight... ultimate sport draw.

I really wanted to love this and I did at first! Worked great on the first outing, where I was filtering super clear water. Got about 20-25L of water that pumped super fast and the whole group was stoked! Took it back out again this weekend and filled it up from a seemlingly clean river and it instantly clogged up and slowed down to a drip. Katadyn is sending me a replacement filter, so I will try to update. Lesson here is that this is an awesome product and awesome idea, but make sure you are filtering from ultra clean sources. Small amounts of sediment will render this useless quickly and there is no backflush option.

Got this to replace an older one, so far so good! I love the closure on it and will never go back to anything with a twist... too many wet packs. The fold and slide is great. As everyone else mentioned, bite valve and quick connects are clutch. I use it with a 24L dakine poacher and it's a perfect combo!

I've been on the hunt for some killer short sleeve button ups for the summer and I finally found a winner! Super soft and comfortable material. Great design again from MH. I originally had a large and it was really big on me, so I sized down to the medium and it's a great fit. It's a modern style fit, not a super baggy style that I've found so many of these to be.

I just picked up a couple pairs of these after hearing so many good things about them. The fit is off the charts on these pants, some of the best fitting pants I've ever owned. They are really well thought out as well. The roll up with button closure is a great little feature. They would be nice for the commuter, since they do have those reflective straps on the underside as well. The pockets are easy access and have zippers on the back as well as a velcro phone pocket.

The material is super comfy to wear, you won't want to take these off. They have an ever so slight amount of stretch which is really nice. I wore them for a few days camping and they held up excellently. They are not the most breathable and not the most technical, but for an all-around do everything pant, these are my new favorites.

Oh, also, I did wear them on a wet hike up in Olympic and they did get pretty wet. To be fair, it was a rainforest and everything was wet, so I wasn't too surprised. They aren't quick drying, but they dried out soon enough. Anyways, point being, they're not waterproof and they don't really seem to be water resistant either, so if that's what you're after, then these might not be your best bet. Other than that some of the best pants I've had.

Lastly, double thumbs up for odd waist sizes!

Great percolator, it does it's job well. You just cannot beat the price on this compared to the competition. I picked this up after I finally gave up on instant coffee packets. I got the 9 cup, which makes a decent amount. 2 pots was enough for 5 people to get their fix. Looking forward to using this many more times and would definitely recommend!

Picked this up to transport surf boards on top of my car. It's a super easy and quick set up. No problem strapping down a few boards and experiencing no movement or shifting. I can see this working well for transporting virtually anything on top of the car as well. Kind of pricy for what it is, but it's the quality you expect from Yakima.

Definitely dig the design on this shirt. It's my first Hippy Tree product and definitely feels like a quality tee! It runs a tad small. I went with the large and could have probably sized up to an XL. I'm pretty much a large in everything, though sometimes a medium, rarely an XL, but I would say size up on this unless you're looking for a tighter fit.

I'm on my second pair of these. I put the first pair through hundreds if not thousands of miles over the past few years. They held up crazy well and are some of the most comfortable boots I've ever had.

The new Quest 3s seem to have an updated lug patter and provide great traction. I think they must have also reinforced the ankle cuff area. I've noticed that they even have a slightly better fit and are a bit more supportive. That could be because my old ones were beat to hell, but it definitely seems like they made a few minor upgrades without changing a beloved boot too much.

I've sized up a 1/2 size on both pairs. Gives me plenty of room for a thick sock and I'm not experiencing any heel slippage. As for the GTX liner, it does what you expect.

These boots are the best out there, I'll be back for pair #3 if these ever kick the bucket!
