Jordan Kelch's Bio

Pacific Northwest born, Southern raised, Midwest education but decided to head West after graduation. Utah was calling and I had to find out why so my rescue pup, Duke, and I packed up the Subaru and drove to Salt Lake City. No matter where I am though, you'll find me running. I ran cross country and track in college but the elevation and steep mountains in Utah are teaching me to slow down and enjoy the scenery. My favorite brands are Brooks and Patagonia. You'll never see me without my Garmin watch on and I really appreciate a good pair of socks!

Marmot Tungsten
5 5

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I love that Marmot bends their poles to maximize living space. If you're claustrophobic, every bit of space counts! The set up is super easy too. The poles and clips are color coded so you know exactly what pieces connect to each other. The light pocket is a super awesome feature as well!

PERFECTION

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size
Height: 5' 4"
Weight: 125 lbs
Size Purchased: small

This jacket is awesome! I have a couple of rain jackets that I run in but they've always just been okay... They get the job done but they're not exactly enjoyable to run in. Most rain jackets are way too warm for running and the crinkly waterproof fabric is loud and obnoxious. This jacket isn't like that at all. It's not crinkly, it's not too warm and it's soft against your skin if you want to wear a tank top or short sleeve underneath. My previous rain jackets weren't very compactable either. This one packs down smaller than an avocado which is great for long runs or trail runs with a pack. Or, for hikers who want a super light emergency rain jacket. I recommend this jacket to anyone who lives somewhere with rainy spring weather and still wants to get outside regardless of the precipitation.

Icebreaker is top of the line when it comes to Merino wool. These socks are soft, comfortable and durable. Once you go Merino there's no going back. I've used these socks for trail running and hiking but I love them so much I wear them as my daily socks too. They're my favorite socks to bring camping because they don't get stinky. I can wear them on a long trail run and wear them around the camp spot too. They're actually my favorite socks to wear with my Birkenstocks!

I bought this for a friend because hers was stolen but I tried it on before I gave it to her. Now I want one too! It's super light but super warm. The material feels amazing and the insulation is cozy. It's super high quality but also very flattering, I love the fit.

I love this thing. It's one of the best purchases I've ever made. I bought it mostly for camping because I needed something to put on when the sun set. It works perfectly for that but also as a great winter and early spring top. When it's extra brisk out you'll love have a nano-puff handy. It's lightweight but very warm. My only complaint is that it feels fragile. I'm afraid of it getting caught on something and tearing it. I already snagged the stitching on it and I'm not very happy about that...

I'll take one in every color please! Holy cow these flannels are awesome! I have what I thought were nice flannels but Patagonia puts them to shame. The fit on this is so flattering and the flannel is THICK! It's functional and flattering. I wear it to work and take it camping. I love it for layering in winter with a long sleeve underneath and a vest on top but I also love it for spring to throw on with a tshirt or tank top underneath. You will not regret this purchase.

Props to the model and anyone who has the correct body for these pants but it definitely is not me. I was trying to add some variety to my black legging collection but that didn't work out. One, the length was weird on me. They didn't hit me on the lower calf they were more at my ankles. And two, holy saggy butt... The picture makes them look like they are the perfect amount of baggy and fitted and maybe they are for someone else but on me it did not look right. On the bright side the fabric is awesome, super soft, and the waistband is fantastic.

I didn't know how to rate these because it's not that they sucked or were inadequate, I just didn't like them. They flare out like bell bottoms and I just didn't like that. As always, the fabrics Prana uses are super comfy and felt great. The waist band was what I was attracted to and it was great too. I just couldn't get over the weird flare so I had to return them.

No More Nausea!
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Sometimes after really good, hard long runs I get really nauseous and a couple of times I've even fainted. After doing some research and blood tests I found out I'm extremely hypoglycemic and obviously not hydrating properly DURING long runs. I emphasize during because as I've always raced competitively where I'd run with as little gear as possible and drank water or gatorade after a race or workout, never during. Now that I'm not racing and I'm out there on trail runs or long runs for 2+ hours, I feel much better if I'm hydrating throughout my run rather than just after, refueling as I go rather than waiting to hit rock bottom and trying to recover after. I've avoided these drink mixes for a long time because I have a really sensitive stomach but also because there are so many out there that I was overwhelmed with all the choices. If you feel the same way, get the Skratch packets to try out and then assuming you like them get the big bag. I haven't had any stomach issues from these so far! I run with an Ultimate Direction pack and depending on my mood I either put the Skratch in soft bottles or in a bladder. Right now I have the pineapple flavor and I really like it. My favorite is raspberry and sometimes to switch things up I mix flavors, raspberry lemon is really tasty!

I have last years model of these shorts and I FREAKING LOVE THEM! The ones I got last year are size medium so I thought I'd need a medium again but this year they run big, really big. I returned the mediums and now I'm trying to decide if I need a small or extra small. Besides the sizing they feel just as good as the previous model! I love the length, not too short and not too long. The liner stays in place and the waist band is comfy.

I got these pants in a medium because one of my coworkers had them in medium and I thought we were similar sizes but the mediums were way to big. I would totally get another pair but their are no smalls available. They probably run true to size because I'm not normally a medium. The slate color is awesome and the material is super comfortable and seems really durable. I was really disappointed they didn't fit because I was really excited to put them to good use. The waist band is comfy and the length isn't too long.

I saw a coworker in these pants and they looked so good on her that I had to get a pair. I have thick legs and a bum so I didn't believe it when she said she recommended that I get a small, I'm usually a size 6 give or take. I took her advice and they were still too big! Definitely go down a size from what you're used to. On the bright side, the fabric is fantastic and the waist band is super comfortable. I can't wait for more inventory so I can try on an XS!

Ultra Runner Girls Soul Mate <3
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have been ultra running in hand-me-down and incorrectly fitting packs for about a year now and I finally decided to treat myself and it was TOTALLY WORTH IT! Aesthetically, this pack is beautiful. I love the colors and as much I as I wanted to run a marathon immediately upon receiving it I also didn't want it to get dirty because it was so pretty! Of course, my first run in it I slipped and fell in mud... Functionally, I can't emphasize enough how awesome this pack is. I've been running in men's packs and I thought I was fine but when I tried this one on I didn't realize how horribly the ones I've been using fit me. It actually fits my woman sized ribs and hits me in all the right places. I also didn't know how I'd like the soft bottles. I've been told by ultra runners that they're way better than bladders and being stubborn as I am I didn't take their advice until recently. I ran/hiked 17 miles in Buckskin Gulch in Southern Utah with the soft bottles and fell in love. It's actually really nice not having that bladder tube running across your chest and because the bottles are soft you can hold it for a while and keep moving while you're drinking. They're much easier to clean too. And, once you've drank the contents they collapse super small and you can throw them in the back. I didn't think I'd like the bottles being located in the front right on top of my boobs either but it didn't bother me at all. I have a very small chest though so I'm not sure how this would feel for a well endowed woman. I use one bottle as backup and put it in the back of the pack and have one out front and my phone in the other pocket. It works out perfect. When I finish drinking the first one I just replace it with the full one and put the collapsed one in the back. There is so much storage space too! They did a really great job designing the pockets on this pack. Instead of having one big pocket with all your stuff jostling around, there are multiple compartments. I don't notice anything bouncing around and you can sort of prioritize your gear with all the cool pockets. I have one with food, one with back up clothing, one with toiletries, etc. I could boast about this pack forever but you just gotta try it on for yourself. Guys, if you're trying to attract an ultra runner girl, this is the way to her heart.

Perfect Spring Top
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size
Height: 5' 4"
Weight: 125 lbs
Size Purchased: small

I am a die hard Patagonia Houdini advocate and didn't think anything could be better until I got an Airshed... This is the most perfect spring top for any outdoor activity, running, hiking, camping, etc. You know how spring can be sort of bipolar? Some days still feel like winter, some it's raining and some you have hope for summer? This top is perfect for all of those occasions. For running and hiking in 20-30ish degree weather you can wear it with a technical long sleeve underneath. For anything warmer, you can wear it alone or wear a short sleeve or tank top underneath and you're good to go. This top is awesome to start your run or hike in and once you warm up take it off and throw it in your pack. Then have it for backup either when you get to the top and it's cold or to throw on when the sun sets. It compacts to the size of an avocado! For camping it's great for chilly mornings and evenings or when there's a breeze. The material is ah-mazing! I've always loved the Houdini because it doesn't make that annoying windbreaker/rain jacket crinkle noise but the Airshed puts it to shame when it comes to noise. There is no noise at all and the fabric is so soft and light. I also love that there is no hood. A lot of long sleeve tops come with a hood and often for running I have to have my running partner push the hood down behind my hydration pack so that it doesn't bounce around and I don't have to do that with top. I have not used it in light precipitation yet. If you're looking for something waterproof this is not the top. I think if I were to run in light precipitation I would want to wear my Houdini and have the hood option to cover my hair. Even casually this top is awesome. It's great for days where a sweatshirt is too warm but a shirt just isn't enough. You have to check this top out for yourself. The versatility is ridiculous. It doesn't make sense how warm yet cool, breathable and light this top is.

If you have any questions I'd love to answer them for you.

I was really excited to try these out. I love everything Icebreaker makes so I was really excited for some fancy panties. But... the crotch is really narrow and doesn't cover much. You can kind of see it in the pictures above, in the pictures of the pink and green ones. The piece that goes between your legs, it's really tiny! I was hoping for undies I wouldn't even notice I was wearing. My coworker said she had the same problem. Besides that they're very soft and the waistband is very comfortable.

Perfect Backpacking/Trail Running Jacket
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size
Height: 5' 4"
Weight: 125 lbs
Size Purchased: small

I wrote a review previously but have fallen even more in love with this jacket as I've gotten more into backpacking and trail running since then. It's the perfect winter and spring jacket when you're not sure exactly what to wear. It's lightweight and breathable but still windproof and a little waterproof, and doesn't make that crinkly, crunchy Goretex noise. A long sleeve and the Houdini are perfect for winter running temperatures around 20-30 degrees and anything over that all you need is a short sleeve underneath. I'm always cold initially so I start off with the jacket on and as soon as I warm up I fold it into the pocket and throw it in my pack. It compacts so small! In the picture, my navy blue houdini is on the left compared to an avocado and a men's Patagonia Airshed. Let me know if you have any houdini questions!

Happy Feet!
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size

Love love love these socks! I've worn them for a lot of runs but they really won me over on my recent 21 mile trail run. I had absolutely no problems. Perfect amount of cushion, not too warm, not too tight, and even after washing and wearing them a lot they don't look like they're going to wear out anytime soon. I have some socks that look grungy and pill after just a couple of washes, not these! Absolutely no complaints about these socks. I wear 7.5/8 size shoes and I got mediums.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Nathan Vapor Air Hydration Vest
4 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I know this is a men's vest but I was given it as a gift. For light hiking with some trail running it's perfect. I wore it on some hikes in Zion National Park where we ran in some places and hiked in others and I didn't notice it at all. For that trip I took the bladder out and was able to pack gloves, snacks, a 16 oz. Nalgene, maps, extra socks and a Patagonia Houdini jacket and I still probably could have fit more. I've used it in the Wasatch Mountains in Utah as well and when I'm doing a mixture of hiking and slow trail running it is perfect. When I'm doing serious runs though, there are a few things that really bother me, some of these might be resolved if I had the women's specific vest or if I had the XS size. First, the shoulder straps rub against my neck. If you have a shirt with a collar or a jacket it kind of protects your skin but I recently did a 21 miler and by the end I had a big chafe mark on the curve of my neck and shoulder. Next, the tube from the bladder is really long. Sometimes I hit it during my arm swings and it comes unclipped and it flails around obnoxiously until you clip it back in. Lastly, the only straps you can adjust are the ones in the front. I have other packs where you can also adjust the straps under your armpits which is nice because you can really cinch the pack tight so it doesn't bounce. You can't do that with this one. On the positive side, I love all the pockets. My Samsung Galaxy 7 with a big Otterbox case fits perfectly in the front pockets. I also love the bladder. It's the kind where the entire top of the bladder opens which I think is much easier to clean. If you have any questions I'd love to help answer them for you.
