Familiarity: I've used it several times
I purchase these boots to replace my Merrell hiking boots of 15+ years. Finding the right replacement was not an easy task, but so far, these are living up to my expectations. Just like my Merrell’s, these have been extremely comfortable from the very first day. No break-in period was required and was able to wear them on a 4hrs hiking adventure and airplane just out of the box. They are well made, light, and have support in all the right places. My only complaint is that unlike my Merrell’s, they provide little to no insulation in cold weather (below 9 degrees F).
Consequently, I had cold feet during my holiday trip to beautiful and cold Jackson Hole, WY. With that said, I would acknowledge they don’t claim to be insulated. My feet, however, did stay dry after playing in the snow for a few hours. As a personal preference, I purchased one size bigger than my standard street shoe size because I like to wear thick wool socks when hiking and enjoy the extra room when walking downhill.
