Jake Ward's Bio

I live for the outdoors and spend most of my time playing or teaching in the mountains. I love gear that keeps me warm and dry, functions well, and is durable to keep up with my non-stop lifestyle. My true summertime passions are mountain running, climbing, and mountain biking. During the winter you can find me shredding the powder or ski mountaineering in the steeps. I love teaching people about the outdoors, whether I can pass on some wisdom about a local hike or let you know about the next best piece of gear I'm your guy!

Wow, I've had lots of favorite shoes but these have got to be the current first place.

I have specialized footwear for most sports and then my casual shoes - this shoe bridges the spectrum. I favor them over chacos in streams, rafting, paddleboarding, etc. They are super lightweight and drain quickly so you barely notice you are wearing them. I've enjoyed biking in them around town, eating out, and traveling in them. My favorite use so far is for cliff diving/jumping. I was recently doing a bunch of cliff diving in Croatia with rocky shorelines and pebble beaches and I enjoyed having these on while swimming and jumping! They grip rock well, breathe well, look good, all around AWESOME

Love this buff. It's been a staple on my head, neck, and face for a while now. Not to mention - I've given many of these as gifts over the year and converted some of my best friends from wearing big sun hats to these buffs over their faces for sun protection. Whether you are working on the farm or putting up first ascents this buff is clutch.

I bought the Stretch Zion Pant for my brother and law as a gift before he heads out to Alaska for the summer. He has been hiking in them getting ready for his trip and loves the flexibility and comfort they offer on a long hike. He has strong/wider thighs and he doesn't get any bunching up or riding up on his leg!

I bought these for my Surly Krampus and it was extremely easy dialing in the chain line and getting riding single speed. I am stoked I don't have a fancy/expensive derailleur hanging off the back of my bike anymore!

I love these for mountain bike riding clipless and then cruising to work on flats. I never have to switch my pedals and the platforms are super bomber! Plus, I got these in a proud purple color that puts some spice to my pedal stroke!

I don't go backpacking without this little guy. Forget about cleaning bowls, drinking grey water, or straining your wrist hacking at the two day old oatmeal stuck to the bottom of your camp bowl. This scraper cleans up all my bowls, and the best part is I get to lick the scraper clean! Wahoo! More food for me, clean bowls and dishes, and even the option to use a firmer plastic to get the burned on food in our pan!

I have enjoyed the Super 3 since I got it. I have a narrow head and was concerned the Medium might be too big (I wear Mediums in most helmets) but this fits quite well. I love the airflow that I get in the helmet and feel that it keeps my head nice and cool. I bought this helmet for the option to get a chin bar in the future if I decide to ride more aggressively. I am also super stoked on the Emerald color.

I bought these as a gift for my mom and here is what she had to say about them:
The Hoka One One was recommended to me by an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in sports injuries and foot and ankle trauma. She diagnosed my pain from a problem in the bottom of my foot and recommended I switch my running/workout shoe to the Hoka One One. These shoes have been a transformation and the best fit for me was the Bondi 5. I was not able to run because of pain in my entire leg due to my foot problem, but I can again with these shoes due to the deep cushioning and stability. I highly recommended trying them out. The have resolved all my issues and I am pain free. I am on my third pair and have used them for about 18 months

I love this duffle for traveling. First off, they couldn't have done a better job with the wheels. Super sturdy even dragging them through the cobblestone streets or Cuenca. I also love the oversized handle. It makes it much easier to handle this bag over rougher terrain and I get less of that barrel roll action going over curbs sideways - which I seem to never be able to avoid. I like the sturdy closure system. In addition to the two zippers there are four compression straps on all four corners of the bag. Two are permanently attached and the other two flip open easily with the special third prong that keeps it locked during travel. The thick Travel Shield Grid is bomber - we use these bags to travel with lots of first aid supplies and technical gear and they always hold up. The back of the duffle is rigid so you can pack it with just a few things or load it up to the 90L capacity!

Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

My wife is usually a size 8 in sandals, but she had to go up a size because the straps were too tight on her feet. The 9 fits great and gives her a little more length which is great coverage for walking around town. She doesn't wear a wide in shoes, but if you do you may want to order a size up too.
