Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size
I put these boots to the test right out of the box. I planned to wear them to the office for a few weeks to break them in but as it turns out, there's no need. They were extremely comfortable and felt "broken in" the very first time I wore them. The second time I wore them was on a Family park tour that saw 60 miles of trails in Rocky Mountain National Park, Arches National Park, Mesa Verde National Park, Philmont Scout Ranch and the Florissant Fossil beds. THEY WERE AMAZING. Possibly the best boots I've ever owned. Great traction on slick rock, exceptional cushion on hard compacted trails, waterproof, breathable... everything you want in a pair of boots. The day I got home, however, the laces broke. Not a big deal in and of itself - but the replacement laces - that I was lucky enough to have laying around - broke as well - and in the exact same spot. I haven't had the chance to take a good look yet, but I'd bet money that one of the metal eyelets has a small burr that is cutting into the laces. As I have yet to see anyone with the same comments, I'm going to assume that this was just a fluke issue. Luckily for me, the first set of laces held up throughout my trip. Even with the lace issue, I highly recommend these boots - and Back Country - their customer service in unparalleled. - Now... to try and find more laces....
