Jacob Wilbanks's Bio

I grew up moving around the "Land of Enchantment" (New Mexico) and spending most of my days outside. Eventually I found myself in Blacksburg for college and got to explore the New River Valley and the Appalachian Trail. I just moved to Salt Lake City and am looking forward to new explorations here. I love all things hiking and camping. Just trying to live simply, eat a lot of good food, jam some sweet tunes, travel, and take in as much as possible in my short little life.

I got these pants as I was hoping for slightly form fitting pair that wasn't too baggy, and these fit the bill perfectly. I've also been impressed with the 15k waterproof and breathability ratings, and I've run into no issues with either while wearing them. Really solid pants for a great price.

I'll preface this by saying I don't run for pleasure, and picked these shoes up for walking/standing in all day at work as well as using for hiking. I took them out on a short dayhike and they performed well. It was damp and somewhat muddy, and I wasn't sliding around at all. The cushion is good, and the stability would definitely benefit someone who over-pronates alot, but I can't speak too much on that. I usually wear a 9 and the 9.5 fit better in this shoe for me. So far, I am pleased with my first pair of Brooks, we will see how long they hold up.

These socks are extremely comfortable. I especially enjoy the extra cushioned fabric above the front and back of the ankle; it's just enough to give you some extra protection without the need for making the height of the socks increase. Will probably pick some more pairs up soon, as I use them for everything.

I did get some more, because they are sweet.

These board shorts are excellent. I really love the print and colors (I got the Textured Fitz Stripe/Drumfire Red). The fit is great as well, I have a 29 in waist and got the 30 and they fit great, a little tighter than pants I own in a 30, but probably a good thing so they don't have a chance of slipping off in the water. Really lightweight and breathable, dry pretty quick and don't show through when wet. The little pocket seems nice for keys but really think it is more of just a design thing. Overall, these are great though!

When I initially received these I was a little upset about the color, as they are much redder than pictured (brown/red), but after wearing them around I think they look good and give off an air of sophistication, if a sandal can even do that. The best part though is these are really, really comfortable to wear. I have had no issues with them right out of the box and I imagine they are only going to get better as the leather starts to break in a little bit. Really stylish, good color, way comfortable to wear for long periods.

I got this towel to take on road trips, as I need a towel that can dry quickly on the dash of my car and doesn't take up too much space when it isn't being used, and this fits the bill perfectly. I've been pleased so far, and the towel gets me and my mane of hair very dry.

This chair is mad comfy and incredibly light! I had never seen/sat in one of these until the Helinox reps came by the other day and I sat down in one and knew I was going to buy one that instant. Burly but light poles thanks to DAC, so it should last a long while, and it seriously is just very comfortable to sit in. I doubt I'd ever take it backpacking, but for car camping/sitting in the park, this guy is a charm.

I have these in a neon green, and man are the bright! These shoes are good, really light, form over the feet well and hold them in place. I like the 4mm drop, but probably would have preferred the more cushioned of the two trail shoes and gone with the Wildhorse. This is still a good shoe though.

These are a good length in my opinion, above the knee but not crazily so. Great fit, stretch, and style. Loved the Brion pant so picked up a pair of these and they are just as nice for those warmer days.

I was just looking to pare down my wallet a bit, so went with this guy. I can fit 6 total cards in it, 2 per slot, and they aren't easy to pull out, but also not hard. The money slot doesn't seem real useful, so wouldn't recommend if you use a lot of cash, but otherwise it is nice and will lighten up your daily load.

Took this out on a day hike to give it a try. It works well, is easy to use once you get the filter to soak some water it makes it easy to suck water up. As others have said, just because it can't filter large amounts at a time, it is good in a pinch but definitely not your best bet for your overall water filtration needs. For the price, excellent and I totally see it's value for people and places that don't have access to clean drinking water, but for backpacking, just not the most ideal.

I wanted to try these and compare them to the Stretch Zion, as I have a pair of those and absolutely love them. I have to say, I like these even better! They have the same great stretch and durability as the Zion, but they are just a tad slimmer through the legs and more stylish in my opinion as they don't have the side cargo pocket or the adjustable waist belt. I have worn these for days in a row and they are so comfortable, I've even slept in them. I like that they have all the functionality of the Zion, but make you look a little less nerdy when you go straight from climbing to town. My new favorite pair of pants, Prana never dissapoints!

This box is nice, incredibly easy to mount on the bars, just turn four dials and its locked and secure. I like the ability to open from both sides, and the box stores plenty of gear which really frees up space for me in the back of my car, as I've transitioned to residing in the back to save that mullah and travel.

It is good and I haven't had any issues with it as of yet, just 4 stars as it seems a little pricey for what it is, but if you need to free up space, it does a great job!

These are my everyday, do it all underwear. I've tried the Icebreakers, and while they are admittedly more stylish, they just aren't durable or as performance oriented. These fit great, hardly noticeable while you wear them, and they never smell. I just rotate through a couple pairs and they see me through just fine. I can't say I plan on using anything else in the future.

I took this out over the weekend for the first time, and think it is going to be a solid investment for my future outdoor endeavors. I'd never seen a pole system quite like this one, but it was a breeze to set up. It amazes me that it is a freestanding tent and is still this light! Can't wait to get out and use it more.

This shirt has a sweet graphic, nice and minimal, and not advertising for anything other than getting outside and living well. Good job Patagonia on keeping the logo off this one. The tubular blue color looks just like pictured and looks great with the maroon lettering. A new addition to my small wardrobe that should last a long time and is quickly becoming a favorite to wear.

Good Rack, Easy Install, But Overpriced
4 5

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I just installed this system on my Honda Element, and am hoping to add a cargo box soon. The install was pretty easy, no thanks really to the Ikea like instructions included, but pretty self explanatory. The quality seems good and this should hold up for a while, and add a lot of interior space once I get a cargo box, but if I'm being completely honest it seems a little expensive for what it is.

This is my setup:

Thule Podium Fit Kit - 3109
Thule Podium Foot Packs – Rapid Aero
Thule AeroBlade Load Bars - 53"
