Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Very unique carbon wheelset that is snappy, malleable, and durable all at the same time. I rode these for a week on some pretty fast and rough tracks and found the wheel's ability to roll through chunks and chunder 2nd to none. It did require more pressure at the top of the turn in corners to stay on line vs. something like a Santa Cruz Reserve but once I got the timing dialed, it was easier to consistently carry speed through an entire run. It's a pretty awesome concept and definitely worth strong consideration if you're in the market for a carbon wheelset.

I personally like the lace up look but different styles for different folks. These shoes fit narrow! Definitely keep that in mind when you are looking at your options. They have been a good shoe though - I've put some heavy miles on them including walking on lots of rock and they have held up well so far.

I liked the old cut better on these things. I tend to double up on the base layer and like a tighter fitting shirt underneath a looser fitting shirt. This used to be my go-to tighter fitting shirt until the cut changed.

I needed another pair of insoles as I became tired of switching my custom ski insoles between boots all the time. These were a cheap option and they work great for something like a touring boot where the performance of the boot is garbage anyway. Would definitely recommend putting into something that you don't need a ton of groomer ripping performance out of.

My favorite jeans. Good "slim fit" but not actually that slim. Just a regular cut that doesn't feel uncomfortable or drag on the ground. Some stretch in them as well so you aren't struggling to get in and out of the truck.

Nice wind breaker material but thinner than what I wanted. I was looking for a base layer weight vest and ended up going with this one: https://www.backcountry.com/icebreaker-tech-trainer-hybrid-vest-mens#wall-solicitations

Seemed like a great vest but it was warmer than I wanted. I was looking for a base layer weight vest and ended up going with this one: https://www.backcountry.com/icebreaker-tech-trainer-hybrid-vest-mens#wall-solicitations

The smartwool slopestyle elite sock is a fantastic ski sock if you’re looking for something on the thinner side. Like all smartwool socks, the material effectively manages moisture and is extremely durable even with heavy use and washing. I typically get 2-3 years of near-daily use out of my smartwool socks before they wear out.

The Tacx trainer tire lets your save your supple road tires for spring while enhancing the ride experience on the trainer. They are quieter on the trainer than typical tires, which starts to offset the general misery of riding indoors. I’d recommend them if you’re going to be putting in serious winter miles.

The Supacaz Sticky Kush Galaxy bar tape has a very cool pattern in a variety of colors to match your bike. More importantly, it feels great on the hand. It’s on the thicker side, but not overly so. There’s a high degree of grip (hence the “sticky” in the title) that keeps my hands right where I want them. Given the high grip, I do find that I prefer to wear gloves as they can rub my hands a bit raw (more so than the old cork tape anyway).

They are also very durable and continue to look great right up until the very end – the color doesn’t really fade.
