Jack L's Bio

Being an extremely active outdoor enthusiast since I was very young, I have been privileged to enjoy experiences with many types of outdoor activities and the associated gear. I enjoy: hiking, cycling mountain climbing, canyoneering, fly fishing, running, skiing and traveling. I am a Certified Lead Climbing Instructor - Boy Scouts of America and am presently completing ACA Canyon Leader Training. I've organized extended unsupported cycling trips; lead multiple groups of friends, youth groups and family on various excursions to Zion National Park, Moab, UT, Escalante UT, Wyoming, and Montana; Canyon Leader for multiple BSA group outings; organized numerous backpacking trips for adults and youth. Have competed and finished the Deseret News Marathon, Payson Marathon, and Heber Valley-1/2 Ironman Triathlon.

Travel experience includes extensive travel in North America, Japan, Australia, Europe, Central America and Canada.

With my varied experiences I have learned the significance of the right gear and the need for that gear to be of high quality. Sharing that experience and background with others, helping them find the right solution to their gear needs is extremely enjoyable - almost as enjoyable as doing the activity, almost.

The Chroma Pop + -Bronze Mirror has to be the best lens out there for seeing fish! Not only that, they are incredible pleasant to wear everywhere else.
I have been so amazed where I see can trout laying in water. They show up so well, many times I can determine if they are a Rainbow, as the red strip shows up so distinctly.
My new problem is that I can see the fish so well that I am now setting often too early since I see the take so well.
Frames are very comfortable and light as well.
Highly recommend.

Overall I'm not really impressed by the Grayl. I do like that it pulls out Chlorine and a lot of the Fluoride in the city water but it is extremely difficult to push down. Also, the lid has to be off in order to push it down and you end up putting your hands on the lip of the water bottle. I think the idea they have going is great but some improvements could definatly could be made. If you are not in the city and don't need to get rid of the Chlorine or Fluoride then I would recommend something that is easier to use such as the Lifestraw.

I bought this for my daughter and she uses it almost every day. She has been using in Santa Cruz where the water is around 56 degrees and she says she is staying very warm. She is 5'6" 130 LBS and I bought her the size 8. She said that length wise it fits very well but it is a bit large in the torso area and somewhat bunches when she is sitting on her board. If you are tall and thin she would recommend going down one size.

For as large as it is this tent is very light and incredibly well designed with regard to ease of set-up and optimization of space. Walls are tall enough for good access to sides and corners. Two vestibules are a real bonus and provide great space for packs, shoes, dogs etc.. Various gear pockets make organization of smaller objects much easier to find the next morning or in the middle of the night.
It sets up very easily and with minimal questions as to how things go together.

This bag is the right size and has all the right characteristics for many aspects of outdoors activities. Although not totally waterproof, I use it in the drift boat to hold gear for a fly fishing trip where it's setting on the bottom of the boat subject to water and manages to keep gear dry. It's not too big to be stuffed in a location that is out of the way.
Works so well for short climbing outings especially with the ability to use the pack strap option. Holds rope and other necessary gear. As well opens up wide to allow clear view and access to gear.

Was very impressed by the ability of these gloves to keep out wind and a surprising amount of moisture. Used them for cold weather running and skiing. Worked out fantastic for both.
Very comfortable, but slightly tighter than would be normal for a large glove for me, but wouldn't be enough to go to an XL.

Has a very soft hand to the fabric both outer and inner. Works well as an outer layer in shoulder seasons and as a midlayer in Winter. Breathes really well and has stayed looking good through a fair amount of use. The other aspect is that it doesn't appear to have any torn stitching after being pulled off many times. Holding together well and a favorite piece for evenings in the hills.

To someone who travels a lot Eagle Creek is really the only way to go. This set is perfect to start you out and keep you going for years. The Pack-it folders are amazing if you are trying to keep pants and shirts unwrinkled and ready to wear. The cubes keep everything exactly were you need them. No more scouring for a black sock in the bottom of a black bag, just through them in the pack-it cubes!

This is the most comfortable helmet that has ever crowned this dome. It fits perfectly with any other smith google combination and makes wearing a helmet a treat rather than a burden that makes you look funny. Do yourself a favor spend the few extra bucks and get the Pivot MIPS.

This is an amazing piece of design work. The quality and quantity of the pockets and details are amazing. Pockets are well located-ergonomically for reaching into and placement for gear.
DWR is a long appreciated feature to a vest, preventing the light rain or splashing from rusting the fly hooks.
