Hectorwrote a review of The North Face Chakal Pant - Men's on February 3, 2019
Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Fit: True to size
I have owned Northface for years now and have always had a great experience with their products, particularly their fit and durability. I am a short guy so it is always hard to find fitting attire.
With these Chakal products, however, my experience has been nothing but problems. I've only owned the jacket and pants for barely a month. First I noticed little gashes in front of the jacket after a few wears on the slopes. Backcountry was kind enough to replace it.
As I hoped the replacement would fare differently, I have now noticed the pants have the same gash/rip issue. Isn't this supposed to be ski wear? No matter how careful one is, skiing is a high impact sport and there are skis which have sharp edges and boots which have pointy buckles. Shouldn't the outer material used withstand normal wear around this equipment? Especially at this price level? It is unfortunate since everything else about the jacket and pants is great (fit, length, warmth, flexibility, vent and pocket features).
At this point I am not even sure I will bother asking for a replacement pant that is just going to rip again. But my next purchase will surely be some other brand with potential to be more durable around the sport it was intended to be used for.
