I was looking for a lightweight pair of pants to wear in a hot environment and yet a pair that was rugged enough to handle some rough treatment. I found them. Are use these while on the disaster relief trip to the island of Barbuda. Climbing up and down off of houses while doing a roof repairs. In the sun from eight in the morning till five in the afternoon. These pants can breathe, They can get wet and dry out fairly quickly and they can take some of the rough stuff. The articulated knees made it really easy to climb up and down. For several days I would hop in the shower at the end of the day with the pants on. Gave them a good rinse as I washed myself, hung the pants out on the clothesline to dry and put them on the next morning ready to go. When I got home I’ve put them with the rest of my backpacking gear. These are definitely going with me every time I go.

I was looking for an elastic belt that was comfortable and would stand up to hot sweaty use. I found it! The belt is wide enough to not cut into my waist but small enough that I hardly know it’s there. Easy clip in and out. Wash, rinse and go if it needs it. I used it a lot when working on some houses as part of a disaster relief trip on Barbuda. Long hot days of climbing around, up and down off houses. It did the job. It also went through the airport screening without a blink. Also, it’s nice enough to wear out when you want to clean up a little bit.

I would definitely buy another.

Im almost 60, generally hot natured and I’m short. I’ve worn a few different types of pants over the years. I look for thin pants, with a short inseam. Hard to find. North Face is one of the few. These pants hit a sweet spot. Lightly insulated hard shell that kept me warm on the lifts but cool in the runs. Add a base layer pant if colder or just the pants on warmer days or harder activities (back country). Shorter inseam doesn’t bunch up the legs so they don’t rub or get in the way and adjustable waist band to quickly tighten it loosen. Vents on inside of the thighs get the job done. Gaiters keep snow out of pants legs.

Adding some vents to the outside of the thighs would really be sweet and adding zippers to the pant legs/gaiters would be nice ( hint, hint). But I’m not complaining.

Fit, usefulness and price can’t be beat. I’d buy another pair.

For the price and fit
