Familiarity: I've used it several times

Same review as the 12 oz I left. bought an 18 oz with the same problem. Can't get the lid off if you put hot food in. Soft gasket and the lid thread design will not get the lid off. There is a suction that develops and the lid just keeps spinning. You need to pry extremely hard to get the lid off with little to grab onto. If you do get the lid off, the gasket gets sucked into the food. Good for cold food, terrible for hot food. Problem every time with hot soup. No soup for you.
Tried flipping the gasket, tight, loose, same result. Food is hot and cold though. Hydro Flask Customer service is non responsive. they have successful, proven hard gaskets, yet they go with this useless soft gasket design.

I saw another review with the functional defective gasket for hot food. I bought 3 in total, 1 18 oz one too. I put hot soup for my kids and they can't get the lid off. They are teens, not little kids. There is a suction problem and the lid will keep spinning. The junk soft gasket gets sucked into the food if you are successful getting the lid off. Food everywhere if not careful. Need to pry extremely hard to get the lid off. Very little to grab onto. Lid threading strength and design prevent the lid from lifting it off. Keeps food cold and hot, but this is only good for cold food. Funny thing is, i packed chicken noodle soup like the description. Will not recommend or buy again. They have proven hard gaskets on the bottles and they go and do this. Hello.

Bought this because I travel a lot and wanted a big backpack. Finally found one that is BIG. Has a laptop compartment . The only issue I had was using this as a backpack and the clamshell not letting me. I keep the zippers, internal and external at the short end and use it like a backpack. So works out well and have yet to be stopped by gate attendants when I have a roller board with me as well. Some confusion with the black bag 1 and 2. I think the black bag 2 is the older version made of 400D nylon, which is stronger than 600D polyester. Black 1 is 600d rip stop polyester. Not sure which is better. I ended up with the #1, from the picture. This is before the site differentiated them.
I originally bought the camo, but had to return it because of the horrible chemical smell. Stunk up my car and house. Tried airing out in the garage with no luck. Made me sick and gave
Me a headache. The black one had the same thing, but not near as bad and barely bearable. Aired that out as well and using it.
Pros: Very spacious, you have the space if you need it, like the multiple compartments and mesh zipped compartments, comfortable to wear, can cinch down when not full, cross chest strap helps, side and top carry handles, ID slot, love the drink holder
Cons: chemical smell(black seemed OK, camo bad), could have designed it more like a backpack but still backpack functional,
