Eric Worley's Bio

My life has been spent taking inspiration from nature to propel my life professionally and personally. Early in my childhood, treks with my Dad would lead into the woods of Maryland where we would fish, hunt, hike and camp. As my brother and I got older, we started riding our bikes to the parks near our house, always seeking more nature.

I have now had the pleasure of being employed in the outdoor industry for 15 years. Whether it was my days as snowboarding instructor, guiding sea kayak excursions on the Chesapeake Bay, or helping outfit customers, I have found it my passion to share the outdoors with others.

You can now find me playing in the Wasatch Mountains outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. Favorite passions are: Cycling, Mountain Biking, Skiing and Camping.

Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Initial Impressions - I gave this as a gift to my father. He hasn't used it yet, but I did want to provide some initial observations that I made prior to sending it to him. 1) Super high quality construction, 2) Really light and great for backpacking, 3) High quality case for travel.

More information to come as he gets out and uses the rod this spring!

This has been THE perfect layer to wear under my Giordana AV200 jacket for early spring riding. Feels really good for high intensity at 35-40 degrees and 40-50 degree basemile rides. Typical Castelli sizing. I'm Small in regular clothes but a full on Medium for this baselayer.

Got these for my girlfriend. She loves them! They are large enough to keep her well afloat in the dry snow here in Utah. We haven't had much snow this winter, but we've tried them out in about 12 inches of snow at the deepest a few times. We did steeps and flats with great comfort. The only think she wishes it had was a better system for raising and lowering the heel risers.

Fit: True to size

I am normally an 8 in dress shoes, 8.5 US running, 41.5 Sidi and hover between 41.5 and 42 in Pearl Izumi depending on the size.

I am wearing a size 8 in the Dima 2.0 and it's a good fit. My foot is a little narrow, and I can tell this would fit a traditional last well. It may be tight for a wider foot.

The Chrome Contact Rubber on the sole seems plenty grippy for flat pedals. The shoe also has good arch support for riding, while maintaining the flexability in the sole of a traditional walking shoe. The Gel pad built into the sole under the heel is a nice addition for all day wearing.

More information to come after I get out and ride a few more times in them.

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have used the Chrome Kadet Welterweight now on two commutes. My initial impression is a very comfortable bag that rests above the lumbar and had just enough space for all day riding around town. The main bag is nicely seperated inside for basic organization and the small front pocket is perfect for holding snacks and other small daily use items. The addition of the black buckle is a good look for the bag. For the strap itself, I am a Men's X-Small chest and it has just enough strap to meet my needs. Looking at the strap, this bag should fit almost all shoulders as there is plenty of room for expansion. The strap also has a really well connected support strap that holds everything perfectly in place during the ride.

A few other nice features: Velcro strap to mount a phone case on the shoulder strap. Reflective material on the compression straps and support strap. Sleeve on the back allows for compatibility with a rolling luggage handle for hands free travel.

Great for rides from 35-55. I got the smalls and found that if you like compression, this was the right size for me. I am 5'10" with a 31" waist and 31.5" pant inseam, skinny legs and these fit great. Most men would probably want to size up one like we traditionally recommend with Castelli as I am super narrow through the hips. The ride was chilly for the first 10-15 minutes at 35 degrees, but that is expected. If I wore more, I'd overheat later in the ride so I just suck it up and deal with it. The water repellancy makes them really great for the days where its warm, but the roads are wet from snow melt. I highly recommend these for anyone looking to ride in the winter or early spring.

I was super pumped to hear that the folks at Skratch had come up with a savory bar for snacking on the trail. I'm not going to say I noticed a great performance benefit. The benefit is a nice savory snack after hours of sugary energy drink and gels. This also has a great flavor with the Miso and Ginger. There is also a little red pepper flake to give it a little kick and keep the mouth salivating for more!

I was really excited to get this helmet and try it out. The initial impression was that this helmet looked cool and I like Bern helmets having been a city commuter for the past few years. The helmet runs big and I didn't like how low it was on my brow. This helmet fits rounder heads well, but was too big for my head and I found there was a lot of overhang on the sides. It was very comfortable and the harness did cinch down around my head, however, it feels heavy when worn. I also found that it was really tough to find a spot for my sunglasses when i was doing a long climb and needed a place to store them. All in all, this helmet was adequate. It would be good for someone who has a more round head and likes the Bern style.

I picked up this helmet about six weeks ago. The medium has just enough room for my head and a buff to keep my ears warm during the cool months. I am excited to see how the helmet performs this summer as it gets hotter out. As far as comfort, the adjustment is super easy to get the angles/straps set right and the two way dial in the back makes it easy to get the tension just right. I have heard from past customers that they experience some wind noise, but after riding in this helmet quite a bit, I have not experienced this.

I ride 5 days a week and this has been my go to shoe since the weather turned cold this year. So far, my commuting temperatures have ranged from 30 to 50 and, with good socks, I’ve been comfortable on every ride. I do plan to ride with overshoes once temperatures retreat below 30 degrees. I haven’t ridden with these shoes in the rain yet so I can’t comment on wet performance.

Initially, I found the fit to be uncomfortable - this was driven by overtightening the Velcro around the ankle. This was causing shoe rub and the problem was solved by simply allowing the Velcro top strap to be loosely affixed. I have had no issues with discomfort since changing my approach. I typically wear a 9.5 shoe and found that size 43 was sized appropriately but wearing two pairs of socks would probably drive me to a bigger size... I’ll just use overshoes instead.

I’d confidently recommend these if you’re looking for a trim, not bulky cold weather option.

I recently picked up a pair of the Hydro shoes from Sidi. It hasn't gotten super cold out yet, but I did have a chance to take them for a few rides during a recent cold spell. First Impression - Well constructed, feels like the MEGA last, generally wide throughout. Initial Fit - BIG! I am a size 8 men's casual shoe and 8.5-9 running shoe and the 41.5 was big on me. After putting on a nice thick pair of wool socks, the shoes fit just fine. A little slip in the heel due to how wide the shoe is. For me, these shoes are going to be primarily a commuter shoe, so the fit works for me.

A few weeks ago, I went through a rough patch (6 flats in a week) after they did some weed clearing next to the bike path I commute to work on. I have been through two of these patch kits and can't say they're anything great. The patches got me home, which I guess is the point. However, by the next morning...no air in the tires. I loved how easy it was to apply the patches, and for self adhesive patches, these are very nice. This all being said, I'm going back to traditional glue patches.

I ride quite a bit on a bike path to get to and from work. About a month ago, they did weed clearing along the path and I managed to pick up six flats in a five day period thereafter. Flats are already a crappy occurnence, but flats on the way to work just suck! I have now put the gatorskin tires on my bike and instantly noticed two things. 1) The ride quality on these tires is great. I was skeptical, but Continental has made quite a supple and grippy tire in the Gatorskin. 2) No more flats! Haven't gotten a flat since I switched. Very happy rider! I'll still be switching out the tires to high performace tires for longer training rides, but I think I've found my daily tire to combat the thorns.

For one of those crisp fall days where it's not really warm out, but there's plentry of sunshine. First Impression - Beautifully constructed with a nice soft feel on the skin with a nice tight fit. I really love the cuffs that fully block the wind from coming up the sleeve without restricting movement. I've taken the jersey out on a few rides. I rode w/o a baselayer on a day in the upper 50's with full sunshine and a regular pair of riding shorts on. PERFECT! Kept me dry and held my heat in check on the climb and cut just enough wind to keep me warm as the sun dropped on the horizon on my way back home. Took it out on another ride around 50 degrees with a baselayer and ride tights on and again. PERFECT! I recommend this piece for anyone looking to ride at high output from 45-65 degrees. Castelli says it can go colder, and I can totally see this as I am one to get cold quickly. I am 5' 10" and 145 lbs and the Small was a nice tight fit. Sizes similar to other Castelli product, so go one size up if you don't like a super tight fit.

I used this for mixing if I want to do a chocolate banana smoothie or with almond milk if I can't stop to get a Chocolate milk on the way home. Great product, but I am still a sucker for old school chocolate milk recovery. Great taste and good easy to digest ingrediants keep this in my cupboard.
