Emily's Bio

Child of the mountains; voted "Most Likely to Survive in the Wild" by my grad school class. I can't seem to be away from Colorado for more than a day without being homesick. I LOVE the snow; tend to ski as long as humanly possible...hit the resort while they're open, but hike & skin when the lifts are down. 4 pairs of skis currently in the quiver; but it seems to be a constantly evolving collection.

Oh yeah...I snowshoe & camp at random times throughout the snowy months as well.

When the snow melts, it's time to break out the mountain bikes. We've got some great terrain locally, but we're also only a few hours drive from Moab = yeah for 2 wheels!

When I'm not playing, I'm a physical therapist in the local hospital. Fixing up the broken locals and tourists who come to this area for the same reason I live here...the amazing outdoor opportunities it provides!

I also dabble in the county Search and Rescue team; we see and get to be involved in some crazy situations...plane crashes, avalanches, ATV and bike accidents, stranded/lost/injured climbers/hikers/hunters, even some big horn sheep rescues!

Colorado rocks...

I wasn’t happy at all with this jacket, which really surprised me after reading all the 5 star reviews. Every jacket I own is a solid women’s small, but the small in this was an odd fit. It was really narrow in the shoulders and arm pits, but fit perfectly in the torso and body, plus the arms were abnormally short by at least an inch. It was like an XS on top and a small on bottom with misfit arms. The zipper seemed cheap and stuck when attempting to unzip each time. Beautiful blue, but that was the only plus I found in this jacket. I feel like I received a factory defect or a totally different jacket than the one other people reviewed :(

Awesome bunting. Every time we've put our daughter in this, she's come out toasty warm...And it's pretty dang cute to boot. Runs ginormous, she's almost 7 months (pretty close to 50% height & weight), and she's still wearing the 3 M Size with a bit more room to go.

I LOVE Love love these boots. They're warm, waterproof, and so cute! I wear them shoveling, walking, to/from skiing, playing with the pups and my kiddo, and anytime there's snow or slush on the ground. My first pair lasted a few years, this will be my second winter in my second pair and they look almost new still. Great boots. Exceptional quality, definitely worth it.

I wanted to be a bigger fan of this fleece than I actually was...especially after reading so many raving reviews. My biggest dislike of this was the hand pocket placement though...it's just awkward, too high to be useful or comfortable. Living in CO, I use hand pockets on my jackets ALL the time, especially since I always seem to have cold fingers once the temps go below 50 degrees. Everything else about this jacket was spot on though. I'm going to sell this one and go back to TNF Denali though.

Great jacket. SUPER warm, soft, fuzzy, and cozy. Wish it had a cinch at the bottom to tighten down, but not a huge deal. My one gripe is that the cuffs are odd. The fabric is doubled over at the bottom and since it's so thick to begin with, it makes them sit and look a bit odd. Another thing to beware of is that this seems to fit HUGE! I'm normally a solid women's small and had to exchange for an XS in this.

Ahnu is derived from the Celtic goddess of balance and well-being...the Air Mesh live up to the Ahnu name by balancing performance and style in a lightweight, comfortable, & feminine shoe whose casual style transfer well from trail to town.

These are super lightweight thanks to the mesh uppers, 4 eyelet lacing, and cotton laces, and have a similar design to a fitness shoe. To me, these feel almost as flexible, comfortable, and supportive as the Nike Free. The inner support is comfortable and provides moderate arch support, which is enough on short moderate day hikes, but I found that with pack weight added they tend to lose comfort and not provide enough support.

The soles are fairly supportive and firm underfoot thanks to the Vibram soles, yet they're extremely flexible in the forefoot/toe area. The soles flexibility excels on well-managed trails and moderate terrain, where they provide a running shoe-like fit and stride, but they lack support on Rocky, uneven, loose, or demanding terrain.

The Air Mesh feature a fairly shallow and not very aggressive tread. They tend to hold traction on well managed trails of mostly dirt, but on steeper grades and loose rocks, they don't hold up well.

The bright mesh uppers are soft, stretchy, breathable, and the colors definitely pop, but I've found that your feet do get a bit too cool when the temps drop down. As far as the uppers water resistance, I found them to keep moisture out in dewy fields and puddles, but they did fail when crossing 2-3 inch streams.

Overall, the Air Mesh are casual, feminine, and stylish in fit and design. Across technical outdoor applications, they're far less versatile. These are best for day hiking and dog walking with crossover wear into town. I found these to be a bit on the large side...I'm normally a solid 8.5, and easily would have been comfortable in an 8.

Pretty disappointed with this purchase. It's listed as a "wallet", but it's really just three pockets...there's no dividers for debit/credit cards, licenses, etc. It was impossible to tell from the photos if it had any card slots or not.

Based on past Asics socks purchases and use, I had no qualms about buying another pack of Asics socks. These were a disappointment though. I ordered true to my shoe size per the sizing chart, but these are pretty small...they're always pushing down off the heel so that when I wear them I'm always having to adjust them to keep them in place. Annoying. The colors are cute, but I wouldn't purchase again or recommend them.

LOVE these! Long enough to hit your kneepads without a goofy gap, but not gangsta long. Super lightweight and breathable too...definitely a must in the dog days of summer. I tend to overheat in general, so sweaty clammy shorts are just not fun (had this issue with the Yeti Norrie short...not cool). Fits true to size I believe...the waist is maybe a tad big, but nothing too serious and not enough to want to size down. And I LOVE the Speeda Yellow!!! I've got tons of comments on them!

Big Aggie loft

Familiarity: I've used it several times

So this is pretty awesome...

We really only use it with our roof top tent, since carrying extra gear on backcountry trips can be a bit of a pain. We've tried to watch movies before on both MacBook and iPad when tenting it, but problems came up with-both not being able to see it, and/or one person having to hold said MacBook or iPad. This wipes the problem out completely. It fits in both our 2 person Black Diamond Ahwahnee and our much more spacious CVT Rooftop tent; the bungees that attach it to the tent are variable enough to fit just about any size tent. And once in place, it's like being at a drive-in! (with a much smaller screen) "Um...are they watching a movie in their tent?!", has been heard a few times now.

Some issues-The bungees that hold the loft up do seem pretty weak, not sure how long they'll hold up in the long run. When used in the much more humid Midwest and the iPad was left inside of the loft over the course of the day, we found moisture beading/buildup inside between the screen and the plastic cover. And...We've really only used this at night, so not sure if the shiny plastic on the front will cause a glare issue in the sun. But, than again, if it's sunny outside, why sit in a tent and stare at an iPad??? All in all, I'm not sure that it's really worth $49.95, but it does come in handy and does what it states fairly well.

Thule Doubletrack

Great rack for the money. It is a bit of a pain that this doesn't have the tilt feature (but that's what an extra $150 gets you with the Transport rack). We've hauled our bikes on over 3000 mile trips with this, on off-road trails and the interstate, and it keeps everything locked down tight. Love that this one comes with a lock too.

Bought this for the Thule Canyon basket...which it fits superbly btw. Holds everything down nice & tight, we've used this on up to 3000 mile trips, on off-road trails and the interstate and haven't lost a thing out of it!
