Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I don't love these pants. I bought them to wear rafting and protect from sun burn. I basically want a long pant swim trunk. I'm a bit surprised there is not a whole clothing category for long pants for river rats who get sunburnt legs spending a day on the water. I own a pair of baggies shorts and hoped the long pant version would be perfect.
I have not used them on the river yet, but have some first impressions. I like that there is not a mesh lining. I want to be able to wear this over shorts. I like that the bottom of the pockets are mesh and should drain easily. The pockets seem shallow and since the bottoms are sewn to the pant leg, I expect them to not hold things well when you sit down.
Another issue was one I knew when I purchased them. The colors are all dark and I worry about whether they will feel too hot on a sunny day. Just trying them on they feel more clammy than I hoped.
The biggest issue I have is the fit. I am 5'11" and float between 195-205 lbs. In pants I generally wear 36 waist or L. I wear a L in the Baggie shorts. The L size range is 34-36 and the XL is 38-40. I have tried on both. The waist on the L is okay but the general seat area does not fit well and the legs are kind of narrow so the range of movement is not what I want. The XL are too big, but that is what I have decided to keep.
Bottom line, I think they will accomplish the base utilitarian goal, but I am not enthusiastic about them. Perhaps I will like them better after actually using them on the river in a month.
