Super Warm Vest
5 5

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Fit: Runs small
Height: 6' 5"
Weight: 225 lbs
Size Purchased: XL

I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. The Backcountry Silver Fork 750 Down Vest is one thing above all else: warm. Living in a warm climate down south, I haven't been able to wear this vest yet outdoors without being uncomfortably hot. I tried on a 55 degree day (cold for us), and I was simply miserable. I normally wear size Large in both my North Face and Patagonia jackets, but I took an XL with the Backcountry Silver Fork 750 Down Vest and it was the right choice. The fit is perfect for me and it's comfortable, non restrictive, and the collar feels very good and protective of the neck area. I like the pocket design in that they are placed where you'd intuitively expect them to be and with good depth with enough space for heavily gloved hands. The zippers on them remove the fear of objects accidentally falling out of them during activity. The pocket on the inside left breast is about the size of a CD case so there's space for a phone and/or a pair of gloves. There's also another large pocket on the inside that the entire vest can be stuffed into making it easy to pack tightly. The finish is of something that I would not expect to show dirt very easily. I got the camo color it's easy to match with almost anything other than brown. I think Backcountry's photos are spot on and there were no surprises when I got mine in the mail. I can imagine myself using the product for hiking, travel, and even wearing over a dressier work ensemble to stay warm in a pinch.

Very Comfortable and Versatile
5 5

Familiarity: I've used it several times
Fit: True to size
Height: 6' 5"
Weight: 225 lbs
Size Purchased: 14

I purchased the Sorel Madson Chukka Waterproof Boot roughly 2 months ago and I really like them thus far. I usually am in between a 14/15 depending on the shoe company so I had to guess that the 14's I ordered would fit and they did perfectly. I wear a size 15 in Nike shoes so I feel these run close to true to size but if you're in between... go with the smaller size. I use the shoes for casual wear but they are so comfortable that I have taken them on some long city walks in various wet/dry conditions. I have noticed that on some wet tile-like surfaces, they will tend to slip. I can't comment on the durability quite yet as they are fairly new but they seem well made and built to last a while. The rear of the shoe is somewhat thin but of quality leather, so I think hiking with them outdoors on long treks may leave you wanting a more hike-focused outdoor boot. The Sorel Madson Chukka Waterproof Boot has been a good purchase so far and it's my first foray into Sorels. I am happy with my decision.

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Fit: True to size
Height: 6' 5"
Weight: 220 lbs
Size Purchased: Large Tall

I live in a relatively hot and humid climate, so I needed a rain jacket with very little bulk to it for the wet summer months. I purchased this recently after spending some time on the phone with one of the experts and chose the Venture 2 jacket in tall. The "tall" choice was perfect for me as a regular size may have lifted too far when bending over. The fit ran as I expected and the material seems strong a durable. I wouldn't be worried about hiking with this jacket and brushing against the occasional tree or bush... it would take something pretty severe to tear through this material. It all folds neatly into one of its pockets, making it very convenient to pack. It's an excellent all around product if you're not requiring additional warmth.

As a tall and relatively slim person, it's often difficult to find specialty items that fit me well. Rain pants are usually something that are produced without fit and function in mind, but not with The North Face. I find both the quality and fit to be excellent and it packs down small for easy travel. I'd recommend these to anyone in the market for rain pants.
