Familiarity: I've used it several times

At long last: PERFECTION!

LOVE these boots, and only wish I'd started with them! The people at Backcountry deserve a medal for dealing so nicely with me, seriously! These were the FOURTH pair of hiking boots I tried, and considering I have owned the sawtooth shoes for years (and love them), you'd think it would have been obvious to buy them FIRST. But no...Little Miss "I want to find something a little less expensive" had to go the long way...
Well let me just say, I can go the long way on any hike now, because I found the best boots of the bunch. I guess it's true, you get what you pay for, and go with what you know works! I love the Oboz footbed for my somewhat flat feet that need loads of arch support and a cushiony footbed, and tend to pronate! The comfort is right out of the box, NO break-in period.

So, if you pronate, or need a cushiony footbed, want a waterproof boot you can put on and wear immediately, BUY THESE. You won't be sorry (and you won't make as many trips to the post office as I did making returns). LOL! :-)

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Tried these as a potential replacement for the Merrill's I returned b/c they were too high on the back of my achilles (which I returned before wearing), and in lieu of the Oboz Bridgers that were too narrow, and at first I thought I had a winner. They were comfortable around the house, fit really nicely all over, and seem to be made very well! They were also really cool looking -- loved the colors. They felt a little stiff, almost moon-boot'ish, but I thought I was finally done boot shopping and took them out for a walk: 6 miles on mostly paved trail.

The first thing I noticed, at about the halfway mark, was that my arches did not have enough support. I have somewhat flat feet (fallen arches) and I pronate, and it got worse with every step. By the time I finished, I couldn't wait to get them off. The footbed is very firm, almost NO padding, and you don't notice it much at first, but when you walk a bit, you sure do! My feet hurt, especially my arches, for a couple of days afterwards, so after briefly considering buying replacement footbed inserts, I decided I'd just return them. I still hoped to find an Oboz that would work, because their footbed is PERFECT for my feet. I have the Sawtooth hiking shoes, and have always loved them, so I sucked it up and spent the extra $$ and that's what I ended up with, and they are BLISS.

All that said, these are cool boots, they just aren't good for people who have sensitive arches or who pronate and want a more supportive and cushiony footbed.

Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I love Oboz products, so after returning the Merrill boots I ordered that weren't quite right on the achilles for me, I tried these. Loved them but for the toe-box, which was quite narrow. I don't have wide feet either. everything else about them is great -- footbed is so comfy, and materials are high quality, but I couldn't get past that toe box. My thought is, if you want, consider sizing up to give yourself more room (it's not high-volume either), or consider the Sawtooth, which is what I ended up with. The Sawtooth is roomier, and super comfy! :-)

Fit: Runs small
Height: 5' 2"
Weight: 120 lbs
Size Purchased: Medium

So I ended up ordering two of these. The first one arrived with a bend in the zipper from being folded that was, uh, kind of embarrassing in terms of what it looked like if I sat down wearing the jacket... Ordered another hoping for a difference. The second had the same problem, but to a lesser degree. This time I decided to keep it though because I LOVE the jacket in every other respect, and I figured I'd work out the bend eventually, especially since this one was not as pronounced. I just might not be sitting down in it until I do. ;-)

So, what I love: The color is awesome, but I love green and gray. The material is soft, but waterproof, no weird rubbery smell, and the seams are really well sealed! LOVE the pit zips too, that was a must for me!

I have only used the jacket a couple of times since buying it, but it was raining pretty hard, and it kept me perfectly dry. Not sure how it will hold up in a downpour, or for hours at a time, but I'll mostly be using it for day hikes where it might suddenly rain, and I can tell it will be great for that.

I am 5'2" and 120#, but I ordered a medium so I could layer it, and because most gear is narrow at the bottom. I made the right call! Medium fits perfectly for my purposes.

Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

OK first, these boots fit and feel great, and are high quality. I only wore them around the living room though because I had trouble getting used to the height of the back of the boot. I'm one who doesn't like pressure on the back of my achilles tendon at all, and the angle on this boot was a bit too shallow, so it rubbed there. Everything else was perfect, but this. So I'm writing this review to let you know if this doesn't bug you, or if you WANT a boot that is a little higher on the back for some reason, you'll love them! On the other hand, if you're like me, I wanted you to know so you could look at other options.

I returned these, with the expert help of customer support, and tried three others (which I'll review also): Oboz Bridger, Oboz Sawtooth, and Keen. Ended up ordering the Sawtooth.
