Courtney Carr's Bio

My mama taught me it's bad manners not to share my favorite places and things.
You can find me adventuring the Pacific Northwest (specifically Portland, Oregon) mountains, coasts, and small towns in between, when I'm not behind the desk, helping other outdoor enthusiasts make the most of their time outside.
I'm a life-adventurer. Fun-haver. Pun-lover. Incredible parallel-parker. & Gear knowledge-dropper.

The answer... Yes, yes it can be - because it's 2 jackets in 1! I purchased this adorable jacket for my 3 (going on 10) year old niece and the 4T fit perfectly, leaving her some room for growth. The print is perfect for the girl who loves Elsa and the solid color is a very pretty combo of pink & purple. The sleeves hit right above the wrist and the spandex cuff pulls the jacket in, not allowing wind to blow up the sleeves. The jacket also has the right amount of "puff" and was being used as a pillow while watching the latest episode of Doc McStuffin.

Feedback from another rad customer of mine: "I have about 20 miles on them now, light duty and they are beginning to soften up. They are a bit stiff out of the box by nothing too bad. I’ve not water tested them but have been in several inches of snow and no leaks so far. They also seems a bit warmer than my Salomon quests, not much but warmer."

What pairs perfectly over a pair of pants?! This preposterously practical poncho... Enough alliteration. This poncho is one of my better investments. What's more comfortable than sitting by the fire on a crisp winter evening in a cozy blanket? Nothing. This poncho is it. Wearing it to an outdoor event, I was worried about feeling the chill. However, with a light cotton long sleeve underneath, I stayed completely comfortable. I've never received more compliments on a single piece of clothing- the poncho is a hit in the upstream / dark ruby color. The fleece is heavy enough to keep me warm but still allows me to move around with ease. It snaps easily underneath the arms creating a more "flattering" look and has a full length zipper down the front, which allowed me to open it up easily when I got too warm. The pockets were HUGE- I fit my wallet, phone, car keys and lipstick in them and they securely zipped everything in. It's genius that I'm able to toss on what feels like a cozy blanket and still receive compliments on how adorable it is. I'm wearing this until someone makes me take it off, or until next summer- whichever comes first.

Big, bulky snow pants say "buh-bye". The Marmot Spire Bibs are incredible. Not only are these a 3 layer Gore-Tex fabric, they also are easy to move in. Most other bibs, I've found to be either too big in the bottoms or too tight in the waist, but these fit just right. They fit a light base layer underneath, and keep out winds and snow. The top of the bib hits about 3-4 inches above my hip bone and allows me to layer both underneath as well as overtop with no bulk. My favorite part about these bibs? The lower back is cinched in with ruching which proves that ladies still have a shape even in a snow bib. Well done Marmot.

You can catch me outside in this little number. The slouchy beanie look isn't for me (or the shape of my head) so I love that this is fitted and still has a hip style. I rep the Goat in this number like it's my job.... oh wait it is! Plus, rumor is, it comes with a free Gearhead hug if they see you out it in. Don't tell anyone I let you in on the secret.

What makes this jacket my favorite for runs along the Oregon Coast? The perforated venting system.
At a recent collaboration with The North Face, I had the opportunity to test this jacket out on a trail run along the Northern California Coast. With temperatures dipping into the low 50's, the jacket's venting system pulled the sweat away from my body and released it to the surface level-keeping me cool. After the run, that same venting system, closed the vents trapping the warm air inside- keeping me warm. It's like this jacket reads minds. It knows when to open the windows, or crank up the heat. The post-run chills I've grown accustomed to never showed up. For my next active outdoor pursuits, I'm taking this jacket. Plus, the fabric feels like snuggling up inside your favorite sleeping bag.

is so much more comfortable in this Henley. Cute, casual and comfortable, this top can take you from couch to street in minutes. The tunic length is great, it can easily be paired with leggings and boots for fall or layered under a vest during the winter. Blending cotton, tencel and spandex, makes this top easy to move around in while still feeling like you're wrapped up in a cozy blanket. I'd recommend sizing down, as it does run big.

Review from a rad customer of mine: "The Foray Pants have performed great, I tried them out in torrential downpours and I stayed completely dry. In the fall, I wore them driving on the lake in a boat and they kept all rain and wind from penetrating, keeping me warm and dry. The 3/4 side zips are a convenient feature that I appreciate and it makes putting them on and taking them off fast and quick. I also like how light they are but the material is not cheaply made by any means, it feels durable between the fingers. The waist cinch cord works as expected keeping the pant snug to the waist and the ankle stretch material is large enough to wrap around a large winter boot. I expect to have them performing at a high level for years to come."

I sat next to a girl wearing these on a plane and HAD to have them. Not only are they adorable, but they are perfect for pounding the pavement in.. (You don't feel the pounding!) They do run a bit narrow and if tied too tight, I've noticed my feet tingle. In my opinion, Asics make one of the most durable running shoes for adding mileage on the pavement.

Not a dumb pullover.

This pullover is worn on a daily basis in my household. The sizing is perfect, I'm a standard size small and this is no exception. I'm able to layer underneath while able to pair a jacket over as well since it's not bulky. I pair it with my Patagonia Nano Puff and I'm set for smores by the bonfire.

Ok, wool socks? Sounds terrifying and itchy! Boy, am I glad I got over that attitude towards these socks. Listening to customers, and fellow Backpackers', I tested out a pair on a 10 day hike and couldn't believe I ever doubted the hype. I was just sad I only had one pair, which by the way I wore every single day. They kept my feet dry while regulating the temperature so they didn't overheat. Plus, wearing them every day in a pair of hiking boots, you'd think that they would smell right?! You're wrong. The Merino Wool actually neutralizes odor. So if you're looking for a sign you need these socks, this is it. Go ahead, test a pair.

but first, make sure you have these boots. Hiking every day for 10 days through the Canadian Rockies was tough, but not on my feet. I sized down a 1/2 size, which was perfect. They kept my feet warm through a freak blizzard (in September!) and dry through multiple rainstorms. My only complaint is that the ankle runs wide at the mouth, so a few times, snow slid into the boot (easily avoidable if I had worn the correct pants or gaiters).

It's "beanie" minute since I've found a hat that is actually as functional as it is cute. It lets my head breathe during strenuous activity while keeping my head warm while remaining sedentary. The Autumn Leaf color is key to slipping into the winter in style.

Socks or no socks that is the question. Lounging around after a day of skiing in these puppies has forever changed the way I view my relationship with socks. No longer are the days of sweaty, clammy feet or no socks at all. The Merino wool wicks away any moisture and keeps my feet cozy- without overheating. Never did I think I'd see the day when I'd actually sleep in a pair of wool socks (GASP!) But I have in these! The quality of the Merino wool in these socks is insane- I've had no itchiness or redness while wearing.

Mountain Hardwear is not wrong, this is the shirt I wear everyday (in everyway) Pre-hike, I toss this on to stay warm on my way to the trailhead. Post-workout this shirt's got me covered (literally) and I'm able to head to brunch and look presentable after several, long miles. The thumbholes are clutch on crisp, fall mornings when heading into the elements.
