Chris Purkey's Bio

I was born and raised here in the Salt Lake City, UT. So I'm no stranger to the breadth of activities Utah's unique landscape has to offer. In the winters you can find me snowboarding up Big Cottonwood canyon or angling along the frigid stretch of the Middle Provo River. In summers, you probably won't be able to find me because I'll be tucked away in the Uinta's with my family or hiding in a nice river hole throwing flies.

When I'm not playing or being a family man, I work here at Backcountry.com. I'm the Vice President of Gearhead Operations. Our Gearheads are the lifeblood of Backcountry. They’re the first folks customers interact with, and the reason customers return to our site. We wholeheartedly believe service is a differentiator that our business thrives upon. Gearheads pride themselves on expertise; in-depth, technical knowledge of the gear we sell as well as a love of the activities it’s used for… Not to mention, they’re nothing short of total and complete BADASSES. These guys and gals GET AFTER IT outside! I'm passionate about being outside and hell-bent on ensuring that our team helps you find the right ski, saddle or rod.

Whatever it takes to connect you to your passion, we are here for you!

I had been looking for a large french press for camping over the last few days and was stoked to come across this one. it works great, like a press should and is durable to be protected from the happenings of camp life.

The keen encanto scout is a super cute toddler hiking shoe. My 2 year old hates shoes and will only wear boots. However, given this looks like something in between, it's quickly become his favorite shoe. The velcro make them very easy to put on and take off. They keep him protected as he navigates the wild of our backyard, or the vista of the local mountain ranges. Highly recommended shoe for your wee ones.

I bought these for my 8 year old girl, which enabled her to get dirty and have fun on the rocks in southern utah. These are easy to put on and take off, she seems to enjoy them and they keep her upright as he gets wild in the wild. The addidas voyage hiking shoe is great.

Familiarity: I've used it several times

This bad boy is perfect for the car camp game. The camp chef everest stove is amazing. The pilot clicks on one click every time, the wind panels do a wonderful job keeping the flame hot even in a decent wind storm. I love this thing and it's one of the most affordable on the market.

The hype and price of Yeti exists for a reason, it's hand down the most durable and well made cooler on the market. I recently went to southern utah for 4 days with my family of 5 and sustained our entire food needs on one 10lb bag of ice. When we got home, 3/4 of the bag was still completely frozen and whatever was left in the cooler was still as cold as it was on the first day. Completely satisfied.

The Carhartt workwear henley is a surper durable thick work shirt that is made to withstand the test of time and dirty hard labor. That said, the fit is sooo off from the other Carhartt shirts I've bought. I'm 5'8" and 170-175 lbs and usually wear a medium in all things Carhartt, so I got this shirt in a medium. However, it goes down to my mid thigh and the sleeves are super long. I'm pretty sure it's the equivalent of a Large or XL, so maybe size down. I haven't tried, as I'm going to hang on to the shirt anyway since it's just a work shirt, I don't care that it doesn't fit all that well.

I usually get the Carhartt Force Henley Shirt s in short sleeve, and expected this to be the same material and design but in a long sleeve. While I like the shirt, its a thinner material that does feel solid but just fits differently. It's a little less rigid and durable. The fit is true to size. I wear a medium in most shirts and got this in a medium.

The Carhartt Force Cotton Henley is one of my favorite shirts. It's made with excellent materials and has a solid feel. It's comfortable, wears slightly lose (although not too much) and feels durable, like it wont stretch over time. It fits true to size, I am 175lbs and 5'8" and usually buy Medium, I got this in a Medium and it fit perfectly.
