Chris Purkey's Bio

I was born and raised here in the Salt Lake City, UT. So I'm no stranger to the breadth of activities Utah's unique landscape has to offer. In the winters you can find me snowboarding up Big Cottonwood canyon or angling along the frigid stretch of the Middle Provo River. In summers, you probably won't be able to find me because I'll be tucked away in the Uinta's with my family or hiding in a nice river hole throwing flies.

When I'm not playing or being a family man, I work here at Backcountry.com. I'm the Vice President of Gearhead Operations. Our Gearheads are the lifeblood of Backcountry. They’re the first folks customers interact with, and the reason customers return to our site. We wholeheartedly believe service is a differentiator that our business thrives upon. Gearheads pride themselves on expertise; in-depth, technical knowledge of the gear we sell as well as a love of the activities it’s used for… Not to mention, they’re nothing short of total and complete BADASSES. These guys and gals GET AFTER IT outside! I'm passionate about being outside and hell-bent on ensuring that our team helps you find the right ski, saddle or rod.

Whatever it takes to connect you to your passion, we are here for you!

I've never bought a running short like this with the split exterior from the compressed interior piece. I don't fully understand the need, but nevertheless, these are super comfortable and they look pretty cool too. The fit is great, they stay where they need and breath in all the places you want. I'm 5'9" and 190lbs and typically wear between a Medium and a Large up top and a Medium down low, I bought a Medium in these.

The Brixton prowler is an awesome shirt. Made with a solid base fabric, the print is done well and overall I'm satisfied with the fit. Runs slightly large but not enough to deter me. I'm 5'9" and 190lbs and typically wear between a Medium and a Large, and I bought a Large.

Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Bought these for my wife to use on a recent trip to Europe. She loved them. They kept her hands nice and warm and she was able to use her phone easily when needed due to the etip fingers. They are a slim fit and weren't too bulky on her fingers.

A solid new option for a mid-weight insulation piece, and a great price point. The jacket breathes well, is soft and comfortable and very lightweight. I typically bounce between a medium and large, and went with a large in this. It feels a little bit oversized for me in the arm length, but is comfortable and I plan to keep it. I'm 5'9" and 190bls.

I bought this Herschel roller bag as a gift for my wife. She put it to use for the first time on a recent trip we took to Europe. She was able to travel for 9 days with only this and a small Herschel duffel. The bag was versatile enough to fit her essential easily. However, we noticed en route home that the external casing cracked and was causing the contents inside to weigh down on the roller wheels in a strange way. This made us pretty nervous, worried that the whole thing would rip open and her stuff would go everywhere, but it held for the rest of the trip. Hoping the damage is a fluke and looking to warranty the bag through Herschel directly. If they are unable to fix, or if a replacement experiences a similar problem, I will update the review to reflect.

This is a super handy tool to get the young ones comfortable in their gear. It’s a great starting point for pulling them around on flat ground and even usable following them on mellow transition. Pro tip: Don’t let your toddler get ahold of this before you mount it out their board. It comes apart pretty easily and depending on how much they get it apart, is a pain in the ass to put together.

If you’re looking for something not to soft, not too stiff, this is the go to. It’s a comfortable boot and allows you to wear as tight/loose as needed on the upper/lower foot, given the traditional lace system. You can heat mold the insert to your shape and customize the ankle fit with the inserts that come with it. Awesome boot.

I bought this jacket for my wife a few months back, and it quickly became a favorite. It's perfect for rain or simply when there is a little chill in the air. It's beautiful and easy to wear, keeps you nice and dry and just warm enough. It's the perfect weight and will be a jacket she holds onto forever.
