Chris Purkey's Bio

I was born and raised here in the Salt Lake City, UT. So I'm no stranger to the breadth of activities Utah's unique landscape has to offer. In the winters you can find me snowboarding up Big Cottonwood canyon or angling along the frigid stretch of the Middle Provo River. In summers, you probably won't be able to find me because I'll be tucked away in the Uinta's with my family or hiding in a nice river hole throwing flies.

When I'm not playing or being a family man, I work here at Backcountry.com. I'm the Vice President of Gearhead Operations. Our Gearheads are the lifeblood of Backcountry. They’re the first folks customers interact with, and the reason customers return to our site. We wholeheartedly believe service is a differentiator that our business thrives upon. Gearheads pride themselves on expertise; in-depth, technical knowledge of the gear we sell as well as a love of the activities it’s used for… Not to mention, they’re nothing short of total and complete BADASSES. These guys and gals GET AFTER IT outside! I'm passionate about being outside and hell-bent on ensuring that our team helps you find the right ski, saddle or rod.

Whatever it takes to connect you to your passion, we are here for you!

Somehow I accidentally bought this for my wife, a side effect of being a Backcountry employee (non-stop shopping!). That said, she loves it! She does a lot of yoga and cycling and other cardio activities and this bra gives her the support, comfort and breathability needed. Also, she loves the way it looks.

I bought these for my 4 year old toddler. I was browsing gloves for his sister and he saw these and demanded them. While they do run a little big the stoke level is so high that he doesn't care at all. Plus, they keep him warm and on the hill for the duration of the day. All in all, I'd recommend.

I bought these for my wife to use in her cycling classes and as she starts to ride a bike. Overall, she's very satisfied. They fit to size if you're going of Euro measurements, the US sizing put her at half to full size smaller than what she typically wears. She says these are extremely comfortable, likes the BOA lacing and likes the way they look.

Gus loves this toy. I think the only downside on design/material is that he was able to shred the rope attachment within days. Otherwise, the rubber part will last forever. He loves it and it's a fun change up to the typical ball or kong.

Lightweight, durable, great hardware and easy to adjust. Overall, this is a great leash and I hope it lasts a while. My dog loves to chew up his leashes so unsure about how long it will last but that's not a design issue, it's a "my dog likes to party" issue.

I don't know why but I was expecting this to be a bit thicker and longer than it actually is. It's literally the same buff you'd buy for yourself, which probably works great for a smaller/medium short hair dog. I have a medium sized Collie/Aussie mix and it pretty easily gets scrunched up and hidden. Otherwise, it's a cool design and great idea with the reflecting material for night time. Will be sticking to the good ole bandana for the time being.

I bought these Van Sk7 hi mte boots for my 15 year old son. My son is a die-hard fan of vans, appropriately so. He wears them all winter and constantly complains how cold his feet are. This is a solid solution to match the need while allowing him to continue the flare of sporting his vans. He says they are incredibly warm and comfortable. I kind of want a pair now.
