After looking around the web researching axes and not seeing much for reviews on this axe, I figured I'd write a initial thoughts review and do an update once I get a chance to test it in winter conditions. The aluminum shaft has a nice bead-blasted grippy finish that feels good with or with out gloves. The head is designed to be held pick forward, but feels okay facing backwards, but not as comfortable as the BD Raven. The curved shaft gives it a more natural feeling swinging in my opinion than the straight shaft. The pick is very sharp, much sharper than a lot of other general mountaineering axes I looked at. I recommend getting a pick/adze protector if you get one.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Just used this bag on a 2 week camping trip thru Arizona, from Phoenix up to Sedona. Temps ranged from the low 30s to 40s depending upon the location and altitude. The bag performed very well, and most days I slept with just a t-shirt or hoodie and softshell running pants. the foot box and hood got pretty soaked from tent condensation later in the trip, but it wasn't noticeable inside the bag. My only two cons are sizing and the slightly snaggy zipper. I have a TNF Aleutian 35 in the same zip/size configuration, and that bag feels roomier. The Cat's Meow has room, but the difference is noticeable..

I was looking for a good shoe that would handle a variety of conditions, float well, be affordable, and settled on these. They handled their first trail outing just fine, and off trail in a foot of powder just as well too. I weigh around 180 with a daypack and I didn't feel like I was post-holing. Traction on steep, icy trails was great. Can't wait to take them out again in more snow!
