It's not cheap, but if you need a bulletproof waterproof bag, this thing is the answer. Right out of the chute I took it down a river for seven days. Rained every day, was cold and damp the whole time. Dragged it through a few airports, buses and helicopters as well. Rugged, holds a ton, keeps everything dry. It doesn't have many pockets or gadgets on it, but I think that's one reason that it does what it does so well. Very few things to go wrong.

I have a wide foot (4E in New Balance and 4E at Alden), which makes boots pretty tricky. Last pair of alpine ski boots I bought was in the early 2000s. The main ankle bolt finally broke down, so I figured it was time. I'm one season in on these Texhnicas and I am very happy with them. Still enough for an aggressive skier (I'm not leaving my skis behind in "must make" turn situations), but they are comfy enough to leave buckled all day after a couple of runs. I highly recommend this boot if you need a high volume solution.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Yet another invention that helps old guys bike way more often and in better places. Put this rack on the car and you will never hesitate to drive to a great ride. It's so easy, so fast, so sturdy...zero complaints.

If you have four bikes, this is a much better option than getting 2 racks. That said, keep in mind that you need to set up the initial piece differently than you'd set it up if you didn't have the extension. With the extension, the rack is heavy and bulky...but I gotta say, it makes biking with a crew so much more do-able. Bikes go on easily, the rack is sturdy, even on dirt roads and it folds up well enough to leave it on over the weekend if you are planning to do a couple of rides. It's made driving to biking a much more probably plan...

I don't like to clip in on the MB, so I've been riding with my running shoes or a trail shoe, depending. I really just wanted more of a platform with a less-intrusive sole. This shoe is exactly that. I'm generally very happy with the shoe...I just wish it were wider for my super-phat foot. It's the best out there, but I'd love to see more choices in the market.

She's a petite, very capable skier, and was reluctant to step from her old Bad Apples to a real ski. She made a short jump onto the Sir Francis Bacon Shortie, but needed more. Finally stepped up to this little ski and had an unbelievable time on the mountain. Turned quick for her, handled the pow great and was dependable in the crud. She's only 115 lbs or so, bought a 160 and it has changed her skiing dramatically. Now I'm thinking about getting them for the old man...

Holds firm on the firm, great float in the pow and cuts through the chop. All around great ski. I put my old Gotamas out to pasture (after many fine years...thank you Goats) and this is now my go-to. For a one-ski quiver leaning off-piste and prioritizing the pow, this ski is awesome.

As I'm getting older (now 48), I'm finding that my fingers and toes get cold more quickly. I have used the Dakine and Black Diamond guide gloves for years, and they are really quite warm. But when it's cold outside, the Hestra mitten is like a friggin' sledgehammer on the cold. Over the holidays it was single digits up at Alta almost every day...fingers never got cold in the Hestras. So awesome. I'm sold.
