This jacket is amazing. Crazy light, packs down into its own pocket, versatile from the trail to the office, synthetic, and warm. I've worn this as my only warmth layer at 13k feet in the Rockies during some cold spells without being cold at all. You'll also be hard pressed to find a company that does more for the environment and our public lands than Patagonia if you need any other incentive to buy this jacket. Oh, and Patagonia's repair program is legendary if you ever have any issues with your jacket.

For too long, the fit on hiking pants has been absurd - extremely baggy and ill-fitting - and more suited for an MC Hammer music video 30 years ago than any outdoor adventure. KUHL's renegade pants are my favorite hiking pants at the moment as they're slim fitting, but not tight, and well suited for the trail or a day out in town.

I've hiked extensively in the Rocky Mountains with these and they've more than met the challenge. The waterproofing is excellent as I've waded into streams with these with no issues and they're pretty sturdy despite being fairly lightweight. The quality is excellent as there's little distinguishable wear-and-tear on my boots.

My dog has so much Ruffwear it's ridiculous, but my dog and I both LOVE this pack. It's incredibly functional for hiking and backcountry adventures. Not only is it the typical high-quality harness you'd expect from Ruffwear, but it's capable of holding a lot. On our adventures, my dog typically carries 2 liters of water, poop bags, some (not all) of his food, treats, collapsible bowls, and paw wax, with room to spare. Be prepared - other hikers will also marvel at your dog as it's definitely a conversation starter.

I try to avoid down if possible, so I was in the market for a synthetic bag and all the research kept leading back to the Hyper Cat. Other than the synthetic insulation, I was drawn to its weight and packability. I haven't tested its temperature rating, but when I have used it I was plenty warm. I'd echo the other reviews that I wish - for minimal weight gain - the zipper was longer. It can also feel a bit tight, but that's not unexpected with lightweight, mummy bag.

Sleeping pads are so hit-or-miss that while most will find this expensive, it's worth the extra money if you're going to be camping with any regularity. This is lightweight, packs down to nothing, easy to inflate, and the most comfortable option I've tried yet (admittedly not saying much in the sleeping pad world). It's not worth sacrificing your sleep to save a few dollars on an inferior option.
