Recently, I gave a one star for the Free Kit 13 Castelli sock. It sucked. These are much better. Still could use more stretch, but they're more than adequate. my favorite from them still is the Corsa Rosa. Consistency would be nice.

Usually, I like Castelli socks. i've been wearing one pair for years without issue. These have almost no stretch. I could barely get them on. Ended up ripping one the 2nd time. I tossed them. No, they're not compression socks either. (they'd fail in that category too). I see why they were on sale.

I've spent about 15 years as a wrench in various shops, and have had the luxury of trying on many different shoes before purchasing, so buying unfamiliar shoes on line is always sketchy. That said, it was time to purchase a new pair as my Sidi's fell victim to my new puppy. I didn't like the reviews I saw with Sidi's new stuff so I decided to look at other options. Lake stood out, specifically the Supercross. Great reviews and, damn, they look pretty rad. They checked all the boxes for cyclocross, MTB, etc., but how was the fit? Well, I'll just say that out of the box, these shoes are a dream. They blow away any Sidi shoe I've ever had, and I've had quite a few. The only other shoe that came close to fit were some old Carnacs from years ago. The Boa retention system is awesome. Plenty of room in the toebox and ample volume for my not-so-narrow feet. I've only put about 70km in these so far, so I can't yet speak for longevity, but the leather they use seems pretty rugged. Nice stiff carbon sole without any hotsopts. Great shoe. I'm now a Lake convert.

I was super excited to get these, since I prefer low profile trainer/racer style shoes. They soon arrived. I followed the jacked up lacing system, and realized that these shoes were no match for my normal volume instep. WTF? La Sportiva knows their stuff when it comes to hiking and climbing shoes. Do they think everyone boasts a tiny Italian climber frame? You know, guys- There are trail runners out there larger than 140 lb that still prefer a racer. The tongue wouldn't even cover the top of my foot.
No, I don't have large/wide feet. Bummed.
