Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Fit: True to size
Height: 5' 6"
Weight: 145 lbs
Size Purchased: M

Based on the photo, I feared this jacket might be kind of boxy and bulky, but I was pleasantly surprised. It is very nicely fitted, and the cut is extremely flattering. I like that it is cut a little longer in the back to keep out drafts when moving around or wearing a backpack. The chest pocket is also a nice feature that tends to be present on men's packable jackets but harder to find on women's versions. Also, the item description doesn't even mention this but the jacket features nice, soft, fleecy cuffs inside in addition to the elasticized wristbands outside - double protection against the cold. Especially for the price, this seems like a very good quality jacket and is also very warm while not feeling at all bulky. My usual size M is a perfect fit with plenty of room to layer a sweater or fleece underneath.

I already own a MH Ghost Whisperer jacket that I LOVE and assumed this jacket would have a similar fit. Unfortunately, the fit is very different - it is more boxy and also on the shorter side. It would be a good option for those who prefer a looser fit or want to wear a couple of layers underneath. Would also work well for someone on the shorter side (I'm 5'6" but have a long torso. I usually wear size M in MH outerwear and that's the size I ordered)

I ordered this jacket in the Sea Level Cluster print after reading several highly positive online reviews. The jacket is gorgeous and has a number of functional, higher-end features that I woldn't expect for the price (most notably Recco but also pit zips, wrist cuffs and super-lightweight insulation).

I haven't put it to the test yet because as much as I loved it out of the box...the minute I put it on, I loved it a lot less.

For one thing, the arms are LONG. REALLY, REALLY LONG. they cover my whole hand down to the fingertips, and then some. I need to figure out if I can play around with the velcro at the wrist to make them look more normal and keep them out of my way.

Also, the storm flap at the neck seems to be an awesome feature to keep out the cold (especially when paired with the helmet-compatible hood) but when it's not zipped, the collar looks almost ridiculously huge when it's laying flat against the coat. I have a smaller head, so that may be part of the issue, but again, I'm going to need to see what adjustments I can make to improve this...

I was hoping this would be perfect to bring on an upcoming ski trip later this month. Now contemplating whether to keep it. Will update this review once I decide...

UPDATE: I ended up deciding to return the jacket. As much as I wanted it to work out for me, the sleeve length ended up to be a deal-breaker. For someone with long arms, this could be a dream jacket...

I purchased in size M and have plenty of room for layering - they fit well over THICK leggings. I'm on the curvier side so if you're not, would recommend ordering a size down. I ordered the pink/purple color, which is a little darker IRL vs. pictured and will complement several of my ski jackets nicely. Can't comment about warmth/durability yet as have not used yet, but will also say that 4 zipped pockets on a women's ski pant is rare, as are the external (vs internal) zipped leg vents. Happy with my purchase and looking forward to using!

I've had this coat for several weeks now and LOVE it. As some of the other reviews mention, it does seem to "leak" down more than other down parkas I've owned, but this hasn't been a major problem. It's very warm and looks fantastic. I'm 5'6" and had ordered the XL based on other reviews but ended up returning it for the L, which fits perfectly (I usually wear a women's small for North Face). This is definitely a fantastic coat for the money. I also own a TNF Triple C parka that I use on the most bitter cold Chicago winter days, but I'd say that the Metropolis is perfect for the majority of the time and tons more affordable than the Triple C. I'd highly recommend this coat, but would note that if I was any taller, I think it would be too short - 5'6" is probably the upper limit for being able to wear the girls' version as opposed to the womens'.
