Familiarity: I've used it several times
I purchased these poles as my first pair of hiking poles and I have loved them my first two times out hiking with them. Between the cork handles, the light weight (relative to wooden :) and the comfortable straps these poles are a dream to hike with. Only problem that I have occurred so far is one of the plastic thumbscrews broken however I appears like a relatively easy fix so little worries there, but do consider these as beginner poles and look else where for seriously heavy duty ones.
Update: Unfortunately, I'm back to drop the rating from 4 stars to 2 another thumb screw broke and it seems adequate to conclude that the plastic on this part is sub par. Otherwise the poles still work, but after relatively little use and continued quality issues, I'm greatly discouraged. Montem seems to have a great product, I just purchased a pair of their poles for my father as a Christmas gift. We'll see but for relatively the same price point and lighter (carbon fiber), I am inclined to recommend steering toward their product and not this one.
