A full-customizable base bar for riders on a budget.

With the option of buying your base bar and extensions as a kit-of-parts, riders of all levels and budgets are now able to fully customize their triathlon or time trial bike. The Profile Designs T2 Wing Base Bar gives you the same wind-cheating shape as a carbon bar, only in a more economical aluminum version.

This 6061 aluminum wing profile was designed to mimic the wing shape of the carbon Viper Wing base bar. It's a flat bar, meaning that there's zero drop from the top to the bullhorns. In addition, the bar between the center clamp area and the bullhorns has been flattened (in line with the UCI 3:1 ratio) minimizing the profile of the bar in the wind.

In terms of comfort, the T2 features a shape that's easy to rest your hands on between efforts. Additionally, the reach to the bullhorns is 157mm. This allows you to position your hands on the bullhorns, much as you would on brake hoods, for either climbing or out-of-the-saddle riding.

The ends of the horns were designed for plug-style bar-end brake levers. There are also cut-outs in the side, so you're able to thread cables through the bar and then out the back. Likewise, there are also cut-outs for older clamp-style brake levers where you have to run the cable externally.

The Profile Design T2 Wing Base Bar is compatible with a 31.8mm stem. It's available in a 40, 42, and 44cm width (measured center-to-center) and in the color Black. Please note that this bar weighs in around 250 to 265 grams depending your selected width.

    External routing option

This is the hole on the outside of the handlebar for an option to run your external routed brake cables through the bar for a clean look. There are holes on each side of the handlebar for each brake.

    External routing option

1 for you, T2 for me.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

To start off, no I probably didn't use this bar for its intended purpose. But I don't care. This bar is designed to be a base bar for a TT setup or something with an aero bar cockpit, but I saw this handlebar and thought it would work just like a bullhorn bar for a fixie but actually have some cool style to it, so that's what I used it for. Take that haters!

I just built up a Bianchi Super Pista track bike and I seriously couldn't be any happier with this choice of a handlebar. Has a bullhorn shape? Check. Is comfortable for my hands? Check. Has an aero shape for crazy fast speeds? Check. Internal cable routing holes? Check. Also external routing holes? Check. Looking crazy fly while passing people running? Check!

This bar is super sturdy, doesn't have any flex even while cranking down on some climbs, and really does feel comfortable while riding. As you can see in the pictures, this handlebar has holes to route in the cables internal, or it even has entry holes so if you use an external routed brake, you can still run the cable through the bar for that clean, finished look.

If you want a nice bullhorn bar and want to be different from the crowd (or you just want a nice base bar for your TT bike setup), I definitely recommend the T2 Wing Base Bar from Profile Design.
