You do it all.
Of course, the prAna Stretch Zion Men's Short would prefer to spend the summer navigating slot canyons and working on bouldering problems, but like you, it'll also welcome some day-time refreshments along with lunch with friends in the city. Its four-way stretch fabric delivers mobility and quick-drying comfort to handle crowded sidewalks and bustling national parks alike, while abrasion-resistant nylon withstands the abuse the comes with long rocky scrambles and brushy approaches through the brambles. Then, the ventilated free range gusset brings a refreshing level of breathable comfort through hotter days, and the mesh pockets pockets offer lightweight storage for your maps, wallet, keys, and snacks.
- Adventure-ready short built to accompany you in versatile comfort
- Stretchy nylon fabric offers blend of flexibility and durability
- Fabric wicks moisture to prevent being bogged down with sweat
- Regular fit and inseam gusset keep your range of motion natural
- Integrated belt locks down the fit just the way you like it
- Cargo pockets provide ample storage for smaller essentials
- Item #PRA00M1

Put them on and went "Aaahhh"
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: 40/12
- Height: 5'11"
- Weight: 235lbs
Very comfortable, and with plenty of room in the thighs where I am perhaps heavier than usual. The 12" length seems good for using a harness with; the 10" length would be good for casual wear. Got the 12"s, going to get a pair of the 10"s shortly (no pun intended).
Solid Short
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
- Height: 5'11"
- Weight: 219lbs
Have used these shorts a few times indoors, since it isn't quite short weather outside at the moment. I love the loose fit through the thighs and the stretch in the material, I don't feel nervous about tearing the seams when stretching my legs on big legs. Comes with a built in waist strap that can be adjusted to tighten or loosen the waist line, but also has belt loops so a belt can be added if you prefer that route or for added style. I can't wait for the warmer weather so I can test these out on the trails.
Great hiking shorts -- sizing a bit meh
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: Runs large
- Size Bought: 28x10
- Height: 5'6"
- Weight: 125lbs
A note on the sizing, since that's the only real reason this wasn't a 5-star review: I'm a pretty short guy, so sometimes even a 28" waist can be a bit large -- the Stretch Zion are that way on me. The length ends right around the knee.
Apart from fit, though, the shorts are really awesome hiking pants. They're durable and seem to breathe pretty well. The cargo pockets -- also a taste thing -- I'm not a huge fan of, but I'm happy enough to have found a pair of shorts that fit decent enough and that don't look out of place once I'm back in town.
Legendary
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
I pretty much live in the Stretch Zion short in the summer months. They are comfortable right out of the bag with enough stretch to allow plenty of movement.
Fabric is breathable and the small crotch vents help keep things regulated down south on hot summer days. The integrated belt offers on-the-fly adjustment and the pockets handle all my daily carries with ease.
Awesome shorts

Easily the best shorts I own for hiking, climbing or pretty much anything. Stretchy, breathable and comfortable. I'll definitely be getting another pair.
Awesome Multi-Use Shorts

I’ve used these shorts to hike, run, workout at the gym and ride my mountain bike with padded liner under them. They’re light, stretchy and comfortable. Easy to care for, too.
Just like the pants but short
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

- Size Bought: large

Just as reliable and comfortable as the stretch Zion pant in a short version. These are my go to for any outdoor endeavor.
The Only Shorts I Wear Now
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: Medium
- Height: 6'5"

I'll just say that these shorts are outstanding. They are now the only shorts I wear and I have three pairs. The waste is amazing with the integrated belt, which is really incredible. The stretch fabric, length and look can't be beat. It's all about comfort for me, and so I go no further than these.

Definitely the new go to.

New go to hiking, and board shorts for the husband. I'm pretty sure they are all he would wear if he could.
Good but...

I love the shorts for climbing, hiking on hot days but the pocket material is pretty crumby. After two weeks the right pocket developed a hole which I didn't catch. The pocket didn't catch my new iPhone7 either which apparently went right through and is now lost forever. Result - very expensive pair of shorts...
New Favorite Shorts

I gave these to my Uncle as a birthday gifts and he absolutely loves them!! He has been eyeing these shorts for a while so I decided to get them for him. He loves them because they are a stretchy material, making them very comfortable, but also still look like nice shorts. He says "They can transition from a coffee shop to my bike with no problems." He also loves all the pockets on him.
They sizing was true to size. I got his waist size, and he wanted the shorter inseam. They were a perfect length on him.
These will go a ton of use! They are all he has been wearing since I gave them to him. They are the perfect summer short for casual or adventure use!
Stretch Zion
200 5-star reviews can't be wrong. These are my husbands favorite shorts. I think he has 3 pairs. He wears them for everything: canyoneering, mountain biking, and even extreme-gardening. Highly recommend.

My husband refuses to wear anything else in the summer. These fit super well, wick quickly, and look great. He has 4 pairs!

If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times, Prana's Stretch Zion fabric is the best. I bought these as a gift for my dad because I love every pair that I have. Super light and comfortable but very durable and they dry FAST. Great for almost every outdoor activity but stylish enough to wear everyday.
So comfortable
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

After liking the first pair I bought so much I purchased 3 more in different colors and now it's all I wear in the summer. The pocket options, fit, material, and the integrated belt make it my go to shorts.
Is this my third or fourth pair now?

These are pretty much the only shorts I buy now. Just got them in the (light) grey. While these show the dirty more easily, they still wash up great.
Wore almost every day during beach week

- Size Bought: 32x10

These were super comfortable, breathed well and didn't seem to get dirty or hold odors during a week at the beach. I've started wearing them on a regular basis now.
Love them so Much I bought 2 of them!
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: Runs large
- Size Bought: 36 in

The shorts are lightweight and very comfortable. The pockets are great in that one has a zipper and the others are deep. I don't wear a belt with these shorts as the fit is just right. I originally got a size 38 with 12 inch inseams, however they were too big on me so I purchased a size 36 with 10 in inseams - these fit perfectly and look good.
I've got a pair of Larges from an earlier version. What size corresponds well to that? I wear a 34 - 36 depending on the pants (there is lots of variation these days).
What is the weight of this item?
Hey Susan, these are 10.4oz. call or email me if you have any additional questions!
color?
I ordered a pair in the indigo color and they look just like the blue ridge color from the photo. Are there two colors of blue, because mine are not indigo?
I love my size medium Zions, and they fit perfectly, but now they've gone to numerical sizing....do I want a 32 or 33 waist in the new regime?
Robert,
I'd be running off your normal numerical size. I'm a 32" to 33" waist (depending on the time of year!) and normally go for the 32"s in all my prana apparel.
Hello Robert,
I just checked in with prAna and it looks like the 33 would be the match for the previous medium size.
Hope this helps.
I have the Prana Stretch Zion pants (love em) in small and they're still a little big, have to cinch the belt a little. I normally wear 30x30 pants, just wanted to know if the XS shorts would be TOO small. Any ideas?
Hi FriedUnit,
The Stretch Zion short now comes in waist sizes so you can get exactly the right fit. No need to guess on the XS just get the 30" waist and you should be good to go.
Are any of the pockets zippered and if so, which ones? Is the belt removable?
The left side pocket is zippered (twice, actually, one facing up and one facing front - which is handy depending on if you are sitting or standing). The belt is not removable but it's very small and only shows in the front. Completely unobtrusive.
Can an iPhone 6 plus fit in the lower leg pocket?
Assuming that the patterns here pretty much match the Zion pants, I'd say no. The leg pocket isn't like a cargo pocket, but rather just a little bigger than wallet size.
Can someone help me figure out my size,...
Can someone help me figure out my size, please? I wear the Prana Axiom jean in size 34 waist and 34 inseam. Some folks say these run large and some say these Zion shorts run small...
Can someone help me out? Do I need a Medium or a Large?
Thanks!!
Hey Kurt,
These will run a little large compared to a size 34 but I think the best fit for you would be a size Medium.
Kurt. Another Kurt here. I wear the Axiom 34 x 34 and the Theorem 34 x34. I have two pair of the Zion shorts, and both are Large. Fit the same as the 34 x 34 jeans. Measured the waist band with a tape measure, and they were identical +/- 0.25".
Just received a pair in Medium (my waist...
Just received a pair in Medium (my waist measures 33in over my underwear) and they are clearly too big. I can fit 2-3 finger widths in between but I can make them fit with the nifty built in belt. Is it worth exchanging for the a Small? The sizing chart shows a two inch difference in the waist. If it matters the Prana Mojo Mediums I ordered fit me perfectly. Thanks!

I wear a 28-29 short/jean. Will the small fit me? It's SO hard finding climbing clothing for my size!
Mrwp269247,
I know your pain.
I too have problems not just with climbing clothing, but with basically all clothing, as my waist sits right at that 28-29in mark.
That being said, I would go with the XS, I think the S would still be a bit too large for your waist, and you would probably have issues with the fit, as well as making them stay on while on the wall.
I've included a size chart I found on prAna's website, and according to them, you want to take your waist measurement and subtract 2" from that to determine what "prAna size" to get.
I notice that BC doesn't have any of that size in stock currently, so I would recommend chatting with a gear rep to see if they can find out when they will be receiving more sizes of the XS, if you do decide to go that route.
Good luck, hope this helps.
How true to sizing are these? I wear 31's...
How true to sizing are these? I wear 31's in most shorts/pants. The sizing chart shows S to be 30" whereas M is 32-33". Obviously, I fall in between. Don't want too baggy but I don't want my range of motion restricted either. Any help would be appreciated.
I wear a size 38" or XL in Kuhl, Outdoor Research,Mountain Hardwear and Patagonia. I just bought a pair of these in XL and although they fit, they're tighter than all others I have. I'm going to exchange for an XXL or more likely O.R. Ferrosi shorts which fit perfectly at XL.
Hey David,
Even the if medium is a bit loose, these have an integrated belt that will allow you cinch down the short to whatever size you need, without looking weird. I have these shorts/pants and it's all I wear year round. I love them. You won't be dissapointed.
Hey,
Yeah, if you're a 31", you need to size up to the Medium.
What is the color like on the charcoal? ...
What is the color like on the charcoal? This site shows a black color, another site shows a lighter gray color. Thanks for any responses.
The charcoal color is a dark grey. The lighting used for the photos is deceiving, but they're definitely not as close to a black as the photos on backcountry show them to be.
I have a pair, they like Matt says, they are Not black but a darker grey. It's actually a cool color, just picked up a 2nd pair. But definitely Not black, very dark grey. Would love to see-em in Black too. Great shorts, awesome shorts.
They are a darkish grey. Here is the color on the pants version. Same shade though. It seems a bit lighter than it normally is because of the lighting. Sorry, I'm a lousy photographer. Hope this helps though .
They are much darker than your picture shows.
