    New favorite pair of pants

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 33x32
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 180lbs

I have a hard time buying pants. I'm nowhere close to being an elite cyclist, but years of riding on hilly terrain have given me fairly large thighs. For most pants, I need to go too loose in the waist in order to get a comfortable fit in the legs. The Prana Stretch Zion seems to have a more generous cut in the leg and results in a good fit for me everywhere. I love the system for cinching at the waist that lets you avoid using a belt. To be honest, I doubt that I'll use these much in the outdoors. Although I'm an avid hiker and peak bagger, I prefer to wear shorts in all but the coldest conditions. These are one of the most comfortable pairs of pants I've ever owned and I have no doubt that they would do great on a hike or climb.

    Comfortable, great for traveling

I really like these pants. They work well in hot weather and are great travel pants. They're comfortable!
Fit is true to size to maybe slightly large.

The pair I received had the buttons missing on one pant leg that allow you to roll the leg up partway and secure it. I returned them and promptly received a new pair, return shipping paid by Backcountry.

I have always hiked in jeans, so these are quite a bit more comfortable, not as hot (but still hot), and much quicker to dry after washing. The best feature for me is that they don't start to smell bad as quickly as jeans, and when they do, they don't smell as strong. So when I'm in the backcountry I don't smell myself.

The only reason I give it 4 and not 5 stars is that I'm not completely satisfied with the quality. There are some loose threads and a couple seams that look like they won't hold up for long. I'm hoping I'm wrong, but after just a couple weeks I'm already concerned about durability. I'm tough on gear, but these pants came new with these questionable seams. If they turn out to be merely cosmetic, I'll update my review to 5 stars.

These pants are awesome. They have a great fit and are breathable. My favorite pants for casual and climbing use.

    The Holy Grail of Pants

Once you put a pair of these bad boys on, theres no going back. No other pair of pants will feel as silky, stretchy, or comfortable as these divine trousers. The superb engineering applied to these pants is visible to the eye and to touch, for they look just as stylish as they feel.

The lightweight nylon fabric has a bit of stretch to them, so you need not worry about your pants tearing off as you frolic in the high mountain meadows. The pocket design is perfectly thought out and placed, making grabbing a bar from your cargo pockets lightning fast.

I would highly recommend these godly pants to anyone doing anything at all, but most definitely to hikers, backpackers, climbers, or a participant of any other outdoor sport.

    Extremely comfortable. Not durable.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

These pants are extremely comfortable, and have been my go to for climbing and hiking for the past season and a half.

That being said, they have not held up very well in that time. I've put a bunch of holes in the fabric, an ankle snap has come off, and stitching is coming apart at the seams in a bunch of spots.

For comparison, I almost always wear this with an OR Ferrosi windshirt, which is 6 years old at this point. The top has no holes in it and is completely intact. Comparing top to bottom is not apples to oranges, but these pants are not hard wearing.

I will probably replace these with a different type of pants, despite the positives.

    I want a million pairs

I absolutely love these pants. I bought them around six months ago and they are my go-to climbing pants. The material is great to stay warm when you want to, but somehow it manages to stay cool when you need as well. The built-in belt is amazing for using under a harness. The material is stretchy and great for outdoor activities. They really are durable as well. I am not a huge fan of the snaps at the bottom for rolling them up. I feel like they look a little baggy on me, but that doesn't stop me from loving them. My one recommendation -- if you are a bit more on the thin side, I would recommend taking a look at the Brion pant. While I have not worn a pair, I have heard that they are great for climbing as well, but will not be quite as baggy.

    Pretty Solid Adventure Pants

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 32 x 32
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 175lbs

These definitely a rad adventure pants and don't feel like I've truly put them through the wringer on what they should be used for as I've mostly used them for casual use. I think the Brions would be better suited for what I prefer, but all in all these are awesome.

The cuff does seem to be a touch wider than a lot of other pants I wear (and my pants are generally a regular fit). That said, I normally wear a 32 x 32 pair of jeans and these are spot on.

I'm excited for the fall for when its a bit cooler and have some real reason to rock these on some hikes and desert trips.

The outdoor pant of the century

    • Size Bought: 30x32
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 155lbs

The Stretch Zions are the best pant that Prana has produced. No wonder it's the #1 best selling product that they've ever made. It's stretchy, quick drying, and about as good of a performing pant you can put on. You can wear these around town or out in the woods. If you don't want cargo pockets and want a slimmer cut, check out the Brions. Just as useful with a little more fashion inspired style. If you have questions feel free to hit me up.

Not as fitted as the ones from last year

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: 32W x 32L
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 175lbs

I bought these pants in charcoal last year. They fit awesome. Easily my favorite pair of pants... ever. Love the thickness of the material, the DWR is great, the button up bottoms are excellent for climbing, and the pants dry quickly when wet. I use the side pocket for a card and ID when I want to hit the town without lugging a wallet around.

Unfortunately, a few days ago I bought another pair of the exact same size in the mud color. This time around, they are baggier from top to bottom and almost drag on the ground if I'm wearing shoes or sandals (as opposed to boots). In addition, it seems like the fabric is thinner than it was before. What happened Prana?

I'll be returning these and asking somebody from Backcountry to see if I can find a pair that matches the ones I love from last year. Seems likely I'll be hunting around local shops for that, though.

Edit: I've been trying to upload a photo showing the mismatch in size between the two, but can't get the upload to work for some reason.

I had the same issue with the newer pair that I purchased to replace my old pair. It seems to have gone from a straight-leg fit to a more baggy fit. The Brion still seems to have the slimmer cut, but it doesn't have the same functionality as the Zion in regards to the pockets. Hopefully Prana will go back to the old cut.

    The Best Climbing Pants

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 28 waist
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 135lbs

Quite possibly the best climbing pants I've ever owned. I've yet to find a downside to them, but they have plenty of great features:

    - Stretch material looks and falls normal
    - Many lengths ensure no hemming and the pockets are where you need them
    - Speaking of pockets, they're strategically placed around where a harness would be
    - Pockets keep stuff in but are easily accessible when climbing
    - Snaps at the bottom prevent the fabric from getting stuck underfoot
    - Fabric repels water and mud yet breathes well

    BEST PANTS EVER!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

Got these for my hubby and he loves them! He uses them for everything from hiking/ climbing to casual day use. They are stretchy, breathable and dry insanely fast! He also loves that he can fold them up into capris when he needs to. We are going to replace all of his pants with these bad boys! Money well spent!

    BEST PANTS EVER!

Great pant overall but big leg opening

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: 31x30
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 150lbs

I bought a pair of these a couple years ago and they fit great, but I lost them on a ski trip a few months ago. I bought a replacement pair (31x30) last week, but the pant leg openings of these new ones seem to swallow my shoes. I compared them to a 2nd pair of Zions that I've had for a couple years and the opening of the new ones is about 1-1.5" larger in diameter. Unfortunately, that was a deal breaker for me and I sent them back. Maybe that means the Brion pants aren't as slim anymore and I can actually fit in them!

    Lasted only two months!!!

Only wore them and handful of times. Then one morning putting them on getting ready for work and the entire front button comes apart in pieces. Got less than two months of wear. Sucks!!! They fit nice and were comfortable, but I only got less than two months of wear out of them. Can't return them after 30 days.

      Good but serious pocket deficiencies

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: 30x32
      • Height: 5'11"
      • Weight: 152lbs

The pants themselves are terrific. Very comfortable and solid, good looking. My only problem is the astonishing pocket deficiency: no slip-in phone pocket. Other good pants I've had have had at least easy right-hand phone/keys/compass pocket along the thigh. Something so that you don't have to jam your phone or item into your waste pocket where it restricts sitting and leg lifting. These pants have only two poorly conceived leg pockets. They are BOTH on the LEFT leg, which would have made it work out okay for lefties but for a few problems: first, one of them has it's opening on its RIGHT side, so you must reach all the way across your body with your right hand to grab your phone. Why the opening of the pocket is on its side I don't know. Because of this, you must keep it zipped lest you dump your phone inadvertently. So there's all this extra zipping and unzipping, with the risk of losing your important item if you should ever forget to re-zip. The other pocket is thankfully upright, but its zipper is not only kind of stiff but it's also covered by a tight rain flap that's sewn down all the way on its edges so that it's not easy to reach your fingers around to access and operate the zipper. I often need two hands to be able to get it open and my phone inside or out of it, so I have to reach all the way around with both hands to my left side and deal with a tight flap and a stiff zipper to be able to grab my ringing phone before the caller hangs up. These are no easy-access pockets by any means. Rather they seem like they're meant for storing something you won't need very much over the course of your hike or your day. And that kind of infrequently needed items 'd rather keep in my pack anyway. So you have only these two fairly useless leg pockets. May as well skip the leg pockets then for a cleaner look. What a shame that pants that are otherwise so good would have such a weakness. I hope they can improve on this in their next version.

A stated by a few reviews these pants now run slightly longer. Can this be confirmed by more people/gearheads before I place my order?

For reference, I typically wear 32x32 and the 32L usually drags on the floor for me but I like the look with shoes. However, I would not want it to drag too much like a 33L.

I had a chance to try at a nearby REI that did not have it available earlier. In my opinion, the length is, in fact, longer than a standard 32L. There is about the same amount of "crimple" found in other ~34L pants. The 30L's seemed more like a ~31L which is the size I will be getting.

      Unanswered Question

I'm usually a 29 waist, but these pants are only offered in a 28 or 30 waist size. Do people recommend that I get them a little small or large? I see that they have a belt of some kind, so I'm thinking large, but I want to make sure.

      Unanswered Question

      Hi,

I bought a pair in size S/32 a year ago and they fit perfectly. Would a 31/32 be a comparable fit after the change to numerical sizing? Also, is it true that they changed the fit to be baggier in the legs as another reviewer mentioned?
      Hope not, they were perfect...

Last year I bought Prana stretch zion pants with size M 32. but I noticed Prana Pants size system changed. So I wonder which size one I shoud choose for me. 32x 32 or 33 x 32?

Hey Bumtae - Prana did change their sizing for this year. I have an old L-34 and the 34x34 fit me best in the new Stretch Zions. There is still the adjustment strap in the waist so maybe the 33x32 will be best for you. Feel free to contact me directly with any additional questions.

      - Kyle L. - Expert Gearhead

I want to get my husband a pair of these. As long as I've known him, he's been 32x32 (medium) in every brand and everything, but Prana's size chart leads me to believe he'd need a small (waist size "30"). Can anyone verify or clarify this? He usually wears his pants a bit tight, but this might be due to his soccer player build.

I guess I'm wondering if all the reviewers who say it fits "true to size" mean according to Prana's size chart, or according to their normal size...these are obviously different.

      Hey Stella,

If he is a 32x32 get him a Medium 32. I am a 32" waist and wear a medium in these pants. I think the Prana size chart is a off for these pants. Let me know if you have any other questions.

What does the number indicate after the letter? Is that the inseam or waist? i.e. a S-30 will get me a waist of 32 but a length of 30 and a S-32 will get me a 32/32?

Any ladies out there that rock these for climbing (or otherwise?) I'm in the market for some climbing pants, not partial to mens clothes, but here they are, and one sale. .. men's prana has fit me in the past, just curious about ladies experience with these pants. thanks!

Thanks Jeremy! I'm aware of the Halle, hadn't seen it on sale, will consider- but doesn't come in brick and blue (what's with that!?). I have been partial to flashier colors lately, they're so much fun!

      Best Answer

Yes, I wear both the pants and shorts and love them! The shorts do look a little like you're wearing men's pants (they sometimes get some weird bunching in the front when I sit down) but I don't care because they're so comfortable and functional. I have a muscular posterior and can't stand women's pants that are so low rise. FYI, I'm 5'4" and wear a women's large in most pants, and the M-30 fits well...just a little long, so I roll them up a little.

I'm a short guy that typically wears a 28"-29" inseam. What are my options here, cuff the bottoms of a pair of 30"?

      Hi Raymond,

the 30" inseam is the shortest for the Stretch Zion Pant. I know a few people in your situation that have used a few different options. First you can always spend $10-$20 and get them professionally hemmed. Second option would be to buy some hem tape. There is either the iron on version or the super sticky version. Usually about $5.

Hi, these look great for my boyfriend who enjoys camping and climbing. He's 5'8, 135 pounds, 30" waist. Which size should I order?? thanks!

The small will definitely be on the looser/baggier side; I'm 5'11, 155 and a size small feels a touch loose on me. My boyfriend who's about the same dimensions as yours wears an extra-small and they fit him really nicely. Remember, these are stretchy. Hope this helps.

Are any of the pockets zippered and if so, which ones? Is the belt removable?

      Best Answer

      Hey!

So the cargo pocket on the left thigh has a zippered pocket. Zippered on top and on side for dual access.

      The belt is non-removable.

Does Prana make pants like this for ladies? A comparable pant?

I'm 5'9' 140 lbs, what size should I get? Pretty consistently a waist 32 across other brands. Sounds like prana has been changing up the sizing. My older prana pants from ~2005 say M on the tag, and I think it was either 32 or 30 inseam....they fit very well.

Did they change the fit of these pants...

Did they change the fit of these pants this year? I bought a pair last year that had a slimmer fit. I just bought the same size pair last month and they were baggy.
