As a small guy it’s hard to find climbing pants that have a short inseam. I really like that these pants are sized by waist and inseam measurements instead of just small, medium, large, etc. The fit is great and the stretch allows a lot of mobility. I wear these pants in all seasons and conditions for climbing and hiking and i’ve put multiple pairs through the wringer. I can tell you they are durable and worth every cent. The only thing that could be a bit more to my liking is if they tapered a bit at the ankles, but that’s just personal style preference. They still look good in my opinion.
Look and Feel GREAT!
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: 34-30
- Height: 5'9"

I had no intentions of buying these pants. I received an email and it was enough to spark my interest. The price was discounted 30% and the pics looked pretty good. I figured why not. Blown away with how comfortable the pants are. Light, with some stretch. I've never had anything like it. I will literally live in these things.
great travel pant
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: 31 x 30
- Height: 5'8"
- Weight: 145lbs
These pants are comfortable and soft, unlike some other travel pants that feel a little stiff (like starched or nylony). These feel like soft cotton. These are great for traveling, since they dry quickly after washing, which is handy when you need to line dry clothing or using electric dryers that are more common in europe.
They would be perfect if one of the back pockets zippered. It's nice to have zippered pockets to keep a wallet or other valuables while traveling. As it is, it has a zippered cargo pocket, which is also nice because it's flush to the pant leg.
Great all around pant

- Height: 6'

I was given these from Backcountry, but this review is independent of that. Wore these Prana Stretch Zion pants consistently over the course of a 2 week trip through Patagonia and they performed very well. I needed a 2nd pair of pants to alternate with my Arcteryx Lefroys, and these performed great. Compared to the Lefroys, the Stretch Zion Pants are a bit heavier fabric and also heavier in weight due to some features (such as the dual-access cargo pocket and the 2 rear pockets). I was impressed with their comfort over the trip and used for mostly trail-based hiking, in dry and light rain and they were great. Dried quickly as well after getting soaked through from several hours in the rain. No signs of wear yet. Fit true to size, although I would have preferred if they were a tad slimmer. For reference, I'm 6' and 170lbs and the 32x30 fit well (these also have a built in belt).
Would definitely recommend as a solid, all around hiking & scrambling pant for someone who isn't looking for the lightest/most minimal pant out there.

Received a pair of stretch lions as a gift and I am happy with the quality of the garment. Indeed the fabric is comfortable to wear and moves with your every move. Can't wait to put these through the ringer. They fit true to size and have a relaxed low waist.
Awesome Pant

I purchased a pair of these as a Christmas gift and they were a total hit. Great for hiking, climbing, lounging, and around town. Well constructed pant, light weight, and well designed.

Great looking pant!
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: Runs small
- Size Bought: 30x30

Wore these on a hike through Forest Park (Portland) in a light drizzle and the water resistance held up great! Be careful with sizing. The inseam length on the 30x30’s is actually 29 inches. So if you’re going for 30 or 31 inch inseam, order a 32 and get it hemmed. Prana is a great company and they just might reimburse you for the cost of the hem up to a certain amount.
Great Pants!

These pants are light and breathable, and they fit perfectly. Very happy with my first Prana purchase and will definitely be back for more!

I gave these as a gift and he loves them, very comfortable pant that is stretchy and easy to move in. And they come with an attached belt, they do stretch a bit as you wear them so the belt is nice to tighten/loosen as needed.

These pants are amazing. I wear the short inseam(28") and love them. Comfortable to the touch, light weight and airy. These pants are as comfortable as pajamas. Most of the time I barely even know I am wearing them. I am 5'4" tall and these fit me perfectly. I wear these to work, out on the town with friends, and when on back country adventures on the trails. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an awesome pair of pants for hiking or daily like.
Great Climbing/Hiking Pant
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: 30x34
- Height: 6'1"
Super comfortable pant for climbing in the gym or going for hikes in the outdoors. I like the snaps that secure the pants when rolled up. If you are looking for a durable, stretchy pant for those types of activities these are the ones. I found that they run pretty true to size, maybe a little small in the waist compared to other pant's I wear in the same sizing.
Love!
- Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
- Fit: True to size
My brother in law has these pants. Straight from the source: "Prana Pant Review: I love these pants. I pretty much wear them, and the several other pairs I have in different colors, practically every day. Comfortable, for great and true to size for me. Work great for a wide range of activities as I can wear them hiking and rock climbing as well as into the office for work. Only downside is that I usually get stopped when going through the airport because of the side pockets. The little extra pat down is totally worth it for how great these pants are."
Extremely versatile pant.
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: 34x32
- Height: 5'10"

Durable, comfortable, stretch for activities.
Just amazing. I have big thighs and this accommodates me without being too baggy or long.
I'm buying a couple more sets.
the best pants I've ever worn
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: Medium
- Height: 5'11"
- Weight: 170lbs
These are, hands-down, the best pants I've ever worn. They are shockingly comfortable. The waist size is right on, and the small belt helps to keep them snug as you wear them. The gusseted and ventilated crotch is fantastic and keeps the pants from ever feeling constricted. They also repel water and stains very well. Lastly, the buttons at the bottom that allow them to roll up are just icing on the cake!
fantastic pants
comfortable, well-constructed, water- and stain-repellant
my favorite, but inseam is short
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: 38X32
- Height: 6'1"
- Weight: 218lbs
I returned a pair of 38X30 as the inseam was too short, although I usually wear 30" inseam. Ordered the 30X32 and they are perfect, although 32" is usually too long for my legs. Most comfortable of the three I tried: Prana, NorthFace and Royal Robbins. I thought that the legs of the NorthFace and RoyalRobbins pants were too constraining for hiking. Prana is perfect for me. You may need to order a longer inseam that with your dress/casual pants.
A stated by a few reviews these pants now run slightly longer. Can this be confirmed by more people/gearheads before I place my order?
For reference, I typically wear 32x32 and the 32L usually drags on the floor for me but I like the look with shoes. However, I would not want it to drag too much like a 33L.
I had a chance to try at a nearby REI that did not have it available earlier. In my opinion, the length is, in fact, longer than a standard 32L. There is about the same amount of "crimple" found in other ~34L pants. The 30L's seemed more like a ~31L which is the size I will be getting.
I'm usually a 29 waist, but these pants are only offered in a 28 or 30 waist size. Do people recommend that I get them a little small or large? I see that they have a belt of some kind, so I'm thinking large, but I want to make sure.
Hi,
I bought a pair in size S/32 a year ago and they fit perfectly. Would a 31/32 be a comparable fit after the change to numerical sizing? Also, is it true that they changed the fit to be baggier in the legs as another reviewer mentioned?
Hope not, they were perfect...
Prana appears to make these in a 36 length as well. Can these be ordered through backcountry as well?
anyone?
Last year I bought Prana stretch zion pants with size M 32. but I noticed Prana Pants size system changed. So I wonder which size one I shoud choose for me. 32x 32 or 33 x 32?
Hey Bumtae - Prana did change their sizing for this year. I have an old L-34 and the 34x34 fit me best in the new Stretch Zions. There is still the adjustment strap in the waist so maybe the 33x32 will be best for you. Feel free to contact me directly with any additional questions.

I want to get my husband a pair of these. As long as I've known him, he's been 32x32 (medium) in every brand and everything, but Prana's size chart leads me to believe he'd need a small (waist size "30"). Can anyone verify or clarify this? He usually wears his pants a bit tight, but this might be due to his soccer player build.
I guess I'm wondering if all the reviewers who say it fits "true to size" mean according to Prana's size chart, or according to their normal size...these are obviously different.
Hey Stella,
If he is a 32x32 get him a Medium 32. I am a 32" waist and wear a medium in these pants. I think the Prana size chart is a off for these pants. Let me know if you have any other questions.
What does the number indicate after the letter? Is that the inseam or waist? i.e. a S-30 will get me a waist of 32 but a length of 30 and a S-32 will get me a 32/32?
The S is for the waist size and the number is the inseam length. For a 32" waist you could go with either a M or S depending on how you want them to fit. The adjustable waist belt will fine tune the fit for you.
Any ladies out there that rock these for climbing (or otherwise?) I'm in the market for some climbing pants, not partial to mens clothes, but here they are, and one sale. .. men's prana has fit me in the past, just curious about ladies experience with these pants. thanks!
I can't answer your question but I thought I would mention that there is a women's version called the Halle Pant - http://www.backcountry.com/prana-halle-pant-womens?s=a
Thanks Jeremy! I'm aware of the Halle, hadn't seen it on sale, will consider- but doesn't come in brick and blue (what's with that!?). I have been partial to flashier colors lately, they're so much fun!
Yes, I wear both the pants and shorts and love them! The shorts do look a little like you're wearing men's pants (they sometimes get some weird bunching in the front when I sit down) but I don't care because they're so comfortable and functional. I have a muscular posterior and can't stand women's pants that are so low rise. FYI, I'm 5'4" and wear a women's large in most pants, and the M-30 fits well...just a little long, so I roll them up a little.
I'm a short guy that typically wears a 28"-29" inseam. What are my options here, cuff the bottoms of a pair of 30"?
Hi Raymond,
the 30" inseam is the shortest for the Stretch Zion Pant. I know a few people in your situation that have used a few different options. First you can always spend $10-$20 and get them professionally hemmed. Second option would be to buy some hem tape. There is either the iron on version or the super sticky version. Usually about $5.
I want to buy these for my husband but how can you tell which inseam is which? He is a 32X30
The S/M/L is the Waist Size and the number is the length. Depending on how he likes them to fit he could wear a small or a medium.
Hi, these look great for my boyfriend who enjoys camping and climbing. He's 5'8, 135 pounds, 30" waist. Which size should I order?? thanks!
I would say a small waist then pick the right inseam length. They come in three inseams 30, 32, 34.
The small will definitely be on the looser/baggier side; I'm 5'11, 155 and a size small feels a touch loose on me. My boyfriend who's about the same dimensions as yours wears an extra-small and they fit him really nicely. Remember, these are stretchy. Hope this helps.
Definitely the XS. I am 5'7, 137 pounds and the XS 30 is a perfect fit.
I have a couple pairs of size small Stretch Zion shorts. Can I expect similar sizing and fit in the pants?
Cody, it will be the same sizing!
Is it possible to find the claimed weight of this pants?
Trevor, the pants weigh 0.9 lbs in a medium.

I'm a 33 waist 32 length. 6'0'' 200lbs. What would you recommend for sizing?
John, a medium-32 should work.

Are any of the pockets zippered and if so, which ones? Is the belt removable?
Hey!
So the cargo pocket on the left thigh has a zippered pocket. Zippered on top and on side for dual access.
The belt is non-removable.

Does Prana make pants like this for ladies? A comparable pant?
The Halle pant would be the comparable pant in the women's line:
http://www.backcountry.com/prana-halle-pant-womens?s=a
There are also a couple of zip off versions called the Monarch and the Sage convertible.
I'm 5'9' 140 lbs, what size should I get? Pretty consistently a waist 32 across other brands. Sounds like prana has been changing up the sizing. My older prana pants from ~2005 say M on the tag, and I think it was either 32 or 30 inseam....they fit very well.
No question?
Please email me if you have XS - 30...
Please email me if you have XS - 30 Charcoal.
We do not currently have that size and color in stock. We do not have an order for those from Prana. I'm not sure if we will be carrying that size.
Did they change the fit of these pants...
Did they change the fit of these pants this year? I bought a pair last year that had a slimmer fit. I just bought the same size pair last month and they were baggy.
Yes, they made them bigger! L used to be doable, but a little big for me, now they were huge. M fit fine now whereas they were tight in the hips in the past. I have always worn a M in the shorts, though.
Can you special order the xs size?
Can you special order the xs size?
We do sometimes have the XS in stock but unfortunatley none at the moment, and at present we are not able to backorder Prana products.
I'm 6'1 and some change, what length did you get and what's the length fit like? Im a 33 length, so pants are typically too short or too long.
