    Perfect Pants

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I got these recently and I have to say they are the perfect pair of hiking pants! I have also own the normal Stretch Zion pants so I had to try the convertibles!

These are pretty water resistant and are extremely breathable. I would recommend to anyone! Perfect for chilly early mornings and warmers afternoons. I also love the built in adjustable built in belt to help dial in the fit!

    Best Pants Ever !!!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 38" waist & 40" waist
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 210lbs

Only took 2 days to arrive. They fit great, look great, comfortable, durable, light weight and versatile. I am headed off to Italy to hike around Tuscany, Venice, Rome and the Amalfi Coast and needed some light weight pants that could also work as shorts if needed. I love the zippered pockets to keep the bad guys out while in the big cities (and anywhere else I guess). These pants fit the bill for everything I needed. I got 2 sizes because I am afraid after 14 days of Italian eating, I may need some room to expand.

    Only pants you'll ever need

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 155lbs

If you do ANYTHING outdoors, consider these convertible pants. They're comfortable, and are sized very accurately. If you're feeling bloated, or need to tighten them to escape a bear, you can easily adjust the built-in belt that keeps them secured around your waist. The stretch fabric is soft, and forgiving when it comes to chaffing. There is enough ventilation in the nether region to keep things cool when you need it most. They have ample pocket storage, and so far are resistant against scuffs and rips while rock climbing. The convenience of having shorts/pants in one package is unparalleled, especially for adventures that start early/go late, multi day trips, and occur during seasons with unpredictable weather.

    Better then expected

    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 160lbs

Went on a 10 day backpack trip with 2 pairs of pants and ended up just wearing these the whole time because they were so comfortable. There were a few down pours and I stayed dry. They show no sign of wear and I will most likely buy another pair. Best hiking pants I have ever owned!

    Flimsy

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 30x32
    • Height: 6'
    • Weight: 145lbs

Since purchasing these pants, I have worn them on 6 day hikes, traversing non-technical terrain, totaling ~60 miles. The pants have literally worn themselves out. There are sizable holes located on the inside of each ankle where the pant legs have occasionally brushed against each other. IMO these pants have proven to be incredibly flimsy. I have never owned a pair of pants that have worn out so quickly & easily. Two thumbs down.

    The Go-To

    • Size Bought: 30
    • Height: 5'11"

Why carry more than you need to? Shorts plus pants and shoot, even a swimsuit. These are a bit thicker than other convertible pants and feel more durable while still maintaining amazing movement with the stretchiness. There is a reason for the reputation these have acquired. My only nitpick on these is I wish the legs were cut a bit trimmer, but overall an excellent piece of gear.

    Extremely comfortable

Just got these quickly from backcountry. The pants feel comfortable and well made. I am very happy with the pants and can't wait to use them for bicycle touring. I know they're for hiking but these will come in handy on tours when camping or when a nice pair of pants may be required attire!

    Comfortable, durable, awesome.

Perfect fit and they look great. I just bought my second pair because they are my favorite pants for any outdoor activity. Backpacking, camping, canyoneering, fishing, they are the perfect pants for anything. Zippered cargo pockets and below the knee zipoffs.

Most comfy pants for most occassions

So far I've used these for around-town errands, climbing, dog park visits, and jogs. I want to describe these as having a near-gym-shorts like feel but with serious construction. They are so comfortable.

The construction is great. The only complaint I have is how they fit on the behind...but I suppose that's because of the gusset crotch construction (which has airholes for breathability)for comfort.

There are 6 pockets. Two at the back, two at the sides, and two cargo. I was a bit disappointed with the cargo pockets...they're a bit tight and hard to get things in and out of. They have two zipper pockets for two-way access (Which is nice).

Zip on and off easily. Once zipped off, the pants kinda hang like slim but semi-long skater shorts. Wish they were more above-knee.

These pants are described as DWR coated (in this case Scotchgard). However, upon first usage...they wetted out pretty easily. So I applied another coat and now water droplets are beading like they're supposed to.

The fitting is perfect. Not baggy. Waist is correct.

    Perfect Backpacking Pants

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium 30x34
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 175lbs

I tried a bunch, but stopped now. These stretch Zion convertible pants are all I wear outdoors while backpacking, hiking, camping, etc. They are heavy enough to be durable and so, so comfortable. A slight bit warm until I move just right to use the breathe holes in the crotch. I have two non-convertible pair for work. Very, very comfortable. Love the cargo pockets!

    Great for hiking and backpacking

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 30
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 145lbs

Just an all around really solid pant for getting out and moving. Love the stretch in them. They do run a little tight in the waist. I usually wear a 30 waist in all my pants but I probably should have gone with a 31 to add a little more room to move in the waist.

    My favorite pants!

I have been a fan of Prana for several years, especially the stretch Zion pants. I own several non-convertibles as well as another two pair of convertibles in other colors, and they are always the first ones I reach for whether I'm hiking, backpacking or climbing. They are the most comfortable pants, they move and stretch well, the DWR works great, and they wear well over time. I've worn through one pair, but only after a lot of aggressive bouldering and climbing in them. The zippers are well-made, smooth, and they let you "vent" your legs as well as removing them. Can't say enough good things about these pants-- oh yeah, they come in odd waist sizes for guys like me, where a 32" waist is too big and a 30" just a bit too snug; gotta love it!

    Amazed!!!

I was already in love with the Prana Zion when I started looking for a convertible for a long trek. This one was a no-brainer. Once I found out I could get a zip version of my favorite pant I was stoked. I also really like that the zip is a little further down the leg than others I've tried. Very comfortable.

    Amazing pant

I love these pants. First of all they are quite comfortable and fit very nicely in all the right spots. They seem to not have any excess material anywhere on them. I love the crotch air vents and the multi-entrance  zipped cargo pockets. My favorite feature is probably the direction of the zip off legs. Each leg zips from the inside of the leg toward the outside of the knee. I found this useful when creating some even airflow in the leg, without having to zip them off completely. Once I did zip them off, I was pleased to have the lower legs slide off over my hiker shoes. Great, great pants.

    Great pant

Fit well and the stretch was great for hiking. The only reason I can't give 4 of 5 stars is that while the legs have a good stretch, the waist does not. The pants fit me well on the waist while standing up right and hiking. When needing to bend over, for example setting up the tent, the waist didn't have much give and was a little uncomfortable. If you're on the edge of a size, be safe and go up.

    Everything I'd hoped for

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 32x34
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 162lbs

I used these pants for a week of hiking in northern Sweden. I was immediately very impressed by how comfortable and stretchy they are when I got them. The built-in "belt" is very convenient and works great. And the fit is true to size (I'm 6'0 with long legs and a 32x34 is a relaxed fit). They kept me cool when it was warm, kept me warm when it was cold, and most importantly, kept me dry when it was wet. Throughout the week of hiking, I was forced to ford streams a foot deep or more, trudge through slush two feet deep, etc. so my boots and socks (and eventually gloves) were perpetually wet. But not these pants - they dried off super quickly! They were so good that I wore them and nothing else for the rest of my travels, and have been wearing them back at home for everyday use. The muck and dirt I got on them washed off easily, and they have no signs of wear. I really can't recommend them highly enough! (That reminds me, I need to pick up another pair.)

    Unanswered Question

I bought a pair in the charcoal color, but the actual color is darker than pictured. I like the lighter, more faded look and I wonder if the dark color will fade over time, or does the color hold fast with this type of man-made fabric?

What is the inseam length when zipped off...

What is the inseam length when zipped off into shorts?

does the 32 in the size refer to the waist...

does the 32 in the size refer to the waist of the inseam?

As Alex said, the 32 does refer to the inseam. Those without a number listed have an inseam of 30 inches. prAna also makes them with a 34 inch inseam as well, but backcountry.com does not seem to carry them. The Sizing chart provided will give you a good idea as to what waist size (M, L, etc) should fit. I personally find that prAna clothing is a bit loose in waist, and I usually wear a size down from my normal in order to get a good active fit so I don't need a belt. This would be best determined by trying some stuff from them on though.

I agree. It's a bummer that pretty much all of backcountry's pants are a 32" inseam. What about the guys who wear a 30x34? I guess there's few of us. I'd be cool with a little looser waist, but you can't pull off pants that are too short.

    I have a 33 in waist and a 34 in leg...

I have a 33 in waist and a 34 in leg (inseam). It's very important that the leg of my pants is long enough. Is a large going to be long enough in the leg? or is there another brand that accommodates to us lanky fellows?

    Jesse

    Best Answer

No, it will not be long enough. This pant comes in a 34" inseam available on Amazon or the PrAna website. I made the unfortunate mistake of thinking the 32" would be long enough for my lanky legs. It didn't work. That being said, these are some of the most comfortable pants I have ever owned. They stretch nicely and look good enough to wear everywhere. Great for hiking. I have a 31-32" waist and the M is a perfect fit. They also very long inseam for the shorts.
