    • Fit: Runs large

33x34 has been my go to size in these pants for years with no issue. This latest pair are wwwaaayyy too big now, and I know for a fact that I'm not getting smaller. These new ones fit like 34x36 instead of 33x34. Come on Prana! You're better than that. Going to return for a smaller size.

    Had to return!

Omg the leg opening is soooooooooo wide. Needed for Rae Lakes but give me a break. I could fit 2 legs in one pant leg!

I was on the fence for a long time for these pants, Ive never been a fan of the convertibles. I finally took the plunge and was glad I did! These are super durable, lightweight and breathable. They dry fast when they get wet and are really durable. Would definitely buy again!

I wear these pants for all of my outdoor adventures from backpacking the wind rivers to rock climbing in the desert. I love the convertible feature for days that turn from cold to warm really fast, because you can go from pants to shorts so easily. They also give you the perfect amount of stretch and movement for big moves while climbing. I highly recommend these pants.

    Best Pants Ever

I needed a new pair of convertibles for backpacking. Just did 5 days on the AT and these pants were awesome. So glad I bought them. After reading reviews I was nervous they would not fit but the fit was just fine.

Just received these pants. Have not actually used them for hiking, but I do have some initial impressions after wearing them outdoors for a spell. First of all.. if you've read other reviews, there is a pretty universal opinion that the leg bottoms are too wide. I have to agree. I typically wear a 32-30 pant, and the fit of the waist is accurate. They fit nicely in that regard. The length seems to be pushing about a half to 3/4 of an inch too long, but hiking boots still keep the hem off the ground. The width of the lower legs is pretty huge though. They'll be swishing at the ankles when I walk, unless of course I zip off the legs and are using as shorts. My guess is that the extra billowing effect you get from the extra wide leg bottoms probably helps keep good air movement in there while you're actively walking. Perhaps that's the reason they are larger that normal? Or maybe they are larger to ease getting them over your shoes when you remove the bottoms, since an ankle zipper is absent. The material is awesome. If you've ever had your hands on the Marmot Scree pant, then compare it to that. I'm sure they'll repel light mist and dewy foliage well, and they seem to block wind pretty well too. But at the same time they seem to breath readily. The fabric is a little thick/heavy for dead of summer hiking, but I think they'd be fine up until about the 65-70 degree mark. I suppose zipping the legs off at that point is the thing to do. They appear rugged enough to take rock abrasions and busting though some brush if you need to. The thigh pockets are large enough, but the zippered openings are a little tight to reach in through. However, one cool feature is that the cargo pockets have a zippered top opening, but they also have a zipper opening on the side of each of those pockets. The side zip seems like it will make it a lot easier to retrieve anything you may have in there. Rear pockets lack a closure of any sort which is unfortunate, but not a deal breaker. I general only stash a Buff or bandana in there anyways.
Overall, they are a nice hiking/camping pant and I'm sure to get plenty of use out of them.

    Odd Fit

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Size Bought: 30x30
    • Height: 5'5"

I have been looking for hiking pants to give to my boyfriend. I love that these are convertible and come in waist by length sizing! I decided to give them a try, but they were a really odd fit. The waist fit perfectly, true to size! The length was a tad long, but the legs especially the bottoms were huge! The legs looked double wide, it made the bottom look very weird. The pants just ended up looking huge over all and are going to be returned.

On a plus side, the material of them is awesome, and it feels like it would be great for hiking if they fit right! They will definitely keep water out and be comfortable all day long.

    I cannot get enough!

    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 215lbs

The only issue I have with these is that they don't have enough color options. I pretty much only wear these pants now. I have the convertibles, pants, and shorts all in several colors each. Convertibles are great all year round and are the only think I wear backpacking and hiking. Durable but light so they are great for camping and have held up well. I recommend these to anyone that is picky about their pants! Hard to go wrong with these.

    Dad loves them

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

I got these as a gift for my dad to wear over his running gear when he does Ultra races. He meant to remove them when he started running and he ended up not noticing any discomfort running the Rim to Rim in the Grand Canyon. These are comfy and sturdy, and stretchy. He loves them for hiking and likes that he can run in them if he feels so inclined. He's wanting the Brion which are the same material but more of a straight leg look for more casual wear.

    Outstanding and Versatile Pants

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 33
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 175lbs

I purchased these pants about 6 months ago and really put them to the test so its about time I wrote a review. Simply stated, these are the best and most versatile outdoor pants I've ever owned. I wore them countless times this summer wet wading on the Madison in Montana and wore them on several backcountry Yellowstone trips as well. They kept me cool while hiking in July and warm while hiking in October and November. They are extremely comfortable and breathable. In total I've probably got a hundred plus hours in these pants and they still look great. Very durable. I can't say enough good things about them.

My only complaint are the rear pockets. While the pants are perfect to travel in, I would never trust the rear pockets with my wallet. Not secure or safe enough. So I used the zippered front cargo pocket for my wallet but it's just barely big enough to fit my slim wallet.

    Great Travel Pants

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 190lbs

Bought a second pair of these because I wore a pair nearly every day on a 2 week trip to Portugal. They fit well, have plenty of place to hold personal items, and easily zip off to shorts if the weather changes.

    Hate the new fit

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've owned several pairs of Zion convertibles over the years. Love them! Sadly, my favorite pair got snagged on a nail, so I had to replace them. I got the exact same size, but the newer pair is excessively baggy in the legs. I loved the old modern fit. They weren't too skinny but tapered nicely to the leg. IMO the new ones are way too baggy. Why did Prana have to go and ruin a good thing?

    Perfect Pants

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I got these recently and I have to say they are the perfect pair of hiking pants! I have also own the normal Stretch Zion pants so I had to try the convertibles!

These are pretty water resistant and are extremely breathable. I would recommend to anyone! Perfect for chilly early mornings and warmers afternoons. I also love the built in adjustable built in belt to help dial in the fit!

    Best Pants Ever !!!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 38" waist & 40" waist
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 210lbs

Only took 2 days to arrive. They fit great, look great, comfortable, durable, light weight and versatile. I am headed off to Italy to hike around Tuscany, Venice, Rome and the Amalfi Coast and needed some light weight pants that could also work as shorts if needed. I love the zippered pockets to keep the bad guys out while in the big cities (and anywhere else I guess). These pants fit the bill for everything I needed. I got 2 sizes because I am afraid after 14 days of Italian eating, I may need some room to expand.

    Only pants you'll ever need

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 155lbs

If you do ANYTHING outdoors, consider these convertible pants. They're comfortable, and are sized very accurately. If you're feeling bloated, or need to tighten them to escape a bear, you can easily adjust the built-in belt that keeps them secured around your waist. The stretch fabric is soft, and forgiving when it comes to chaffing. There is enough ventilation in the nether region to keep things cool when you need it most. They have ample pocket storage, and so far are resistant against scuffs and rips while rock climbing. The convenience of having shorts/pants in one package is unparalleled, especially for adventures that start early/go late, multi day trips, and occur during seasons with unpredictable weather.

    Unanswered Question

I bought a pair in the charcoal color, but the actual color is darker than pictured. I like the lighter, more faded look and I wonder if the dark color will fade over time, or does the color hold fast with this type of man-made fabric?

What is the inseam length when zipped off...

What is the inseam length when zipped off into shorts?

does the 32 in the size refer to the waist...

does the 32 in the size refer to the waist of the inseam?

As Alex said, the 32 does refer to the inseam. Those without a number listed have an inseam of 30 inches. prAna also makes them with a 34 inch inseam as well, but backcountry.com does not seem to carry them. The Sizing chart provided will give you a good idea as to what waist size (M, L, etc) should fit. I personally find that prAna clothing is a bit loose in waist, and I usually wear a size down from my normal in order to get a good active fit so I don't need a belt. This would be best determined by trying some stuff from them on though.

I agree. It's a bummer that pretty much all of backcountry's pants are a 32" inseam. What about the guys who wear a 30x34? I guess there's few of us. I'd be cool with a little looser waist, but you can't pull off pants that are too short.

    I have a 33 in waist and a 34 in leg...

I have a 33 in waist and a 34 in leg (inseam). It's very important that the leg of my pants is long enough. Is a large going to be long enough in the leg? or is there another brand that accommodates to us lanky fellows?

    Jesse

    Best Answer

No, it will not be long enough. This pant comes in a 34" inseam available on Amazon or the PrAna website. I made the unfortunate mistake of thinking the 32" would be long enough for my lanky legs. It didn't work. That being said, these are some of the most comfortable pants I have ever owned. They stretch nicely and look good enough to wear everywhere. Great for hiking. I have a 31-32" waist and the M is a perfect fit. They also very long inseam for the shorts.
