Durable, stretch, and convertible for your convenience.

Prana designed its Women's Sage Convertible Pant so you can wear it as a pant, a capri, or a short so you can hike comfortably as the day warms up. Roll-up tabs let you change the Sage into a capri, or you can zip off the legs completely to stay comfortable in the warmest temps of the day. Nylon and spandex provide the durability and mobility you need to hike through brushes and over rocky terrain. A DWR coating keeps the Sage from soaking through in a rainstorm, and the internal drawstring gives you a snug fit. Side cargo pockets store some snacks while the back patch pockets secure your phone and wallet.

    My fave hiking pants

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 2
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 117lbs

I purchased 2 of these pants 2 years ago and am looking at buying another (in the new Indigo color). Ive worn them many times to hike in National Parks and Canyons. I have only used them full length and find them comfortable, light, stretchy and especially love the fit (find other pants too baggy). I ran water over the pant leg recently and the pants stayed dry - very impressed. But my recent adventure has made me love it even more. Went river caving/camping in the SE Asian jungle for 2 days and this was my choice of pants. I was worried I might be hot but it was perfect. Wore it on both days with total comfort and protection. Was in neck deep water at times so these pants got drenched - but they were still comfortable, not heavy and dried quickly. Also changing at the end of the day was easy with these wet pants - I unzipped the legs first before talking off the shorts. I did get my butt scratched on the rocks a few times and eventually got a few tears (another reason I want to buy another pair). I do hope the fit and style is the same as the ones I purchased 2 years ago.

    My fave hiking pants

I really wanted to like these

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 4 Reg
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 135lbs

I really wanted to love these pants. They were made out of great material and they doubled as shorts. Also all the pockets were fantastic. The only reason I will be sending them back, is that the zipper was too tight around my thighs. Everywhere else they fit perfectly though.

    Runs a bit too big

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Petite 4
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 130lbs

I ordered a 4 Petite and it was way to big for me. Love the style and quality, though!!!

    Lightweight

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: size 4
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 135lbs

Pros : lightweight and fast drying. Drawstring waist. Great fit! Zipper on the leg did not bother me, and I loved the side pockets!

Cons : Waist does not go high. Had I not been wearing a long shirt, my back would have been exposed most of the trip.

    Pros & Cons

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 4 Regular
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 125lbs

I really love these pants however the fit on me was way off in terms of the rise. These are low rise on me. I could tell before I even put them on. This is not practical for backpacking. I was so torn about sending them back and even tried them on several times before making the decision but I knew that I just would not end up wearing them for any hikes or backpack trips. I would say that the fit either runs a bit small or it is intended to conform more to the body rather than loose like many of the packing pants that I've tried.

Overall they are lightweight but excellent quality. There is just enough stretch for large movements (climbing over trees or rocks etc.). The large pockets are great for carrying items such as cell phone, toilet paper, chaptstick etc. They do make your legs look like thunder thighs but when you are on the trail it's not a fashion statement! It's about funtionality. LOL! I didn't find an issue with the zippers rubbing on the inside thighs. The only reason I'm not sizing up and ordering another pair is because it wouldn't change the rise in the crotch area for me.

    comfy and lightweight

    • Fit: Runs small

these pants are comfy and lightweight with good deep pockets. The pockets cannot be buttoned or unbuttoned easily with one hand though. these pants run a little small, so maybe get one size up from what you usually wear.

    Great quality

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 6 tall
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 125lbs

Perfect pant for that adventure where you need pants and shorts but don't want to pack both. Pants are light weight in feel but not in quality. Well made, well designed will keep me looking for more from Prana. The tall size was extra tall for those extra long legs. Baggy in the cuff to remove the leg with out taking off shoes.

    LUV

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 2
    • Height: 5'2"

Love the double snaps, the crisp material, the snap buttons on other pockets, overall very nice design, love that it's mid-rise, not low-rise-just for the purpose of the pant the low rise would not be practical, really like the wider waist band. Does have some internal draw strings which are nice. SO glad they come in Short!!!!!! Crisp material, heavier than the Monarch, but not super heavy. Very functional and can be used for many activities.

Great pros but one major con

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 12
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 172lbs

I ordered these to hike mt fuji in. I wore them for a couple shorter hikes to make sure they fit correctly before tackling fuji. They appeared to fit until I had to wear them for an extended period of time. I discovered that where the pants zip apart, the zippers dig into your thighs. If you have large thighs you might want to reconsider buying these. While the tightness on the zipper on my thighs is ok for shorter hikes, I would not wear them for a strenuous hike for long periods of time. If you have thinner thighs they would be perfect and I totally recommend them.

Lots of pros but serious cons

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 4 Short
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 125lbs

I really wanted to love these! Got two sizes, 2 Short and 4 Short (125 lbs, 5'3"). 2 was super-tight and 4 a tiny bit big so kept those, thinking I could make them work. Really liked them while I wore them around the house: a good fit, really flattering but also comfy, light, stretchy fabric; zip-off shorts were great length and the zips didn't bother me at all; the short inseam was an ideal length overall for my 5'3" height...Seemed like a winner!

Morning of our big day hike I got a little worried about the lower rise. I even changed tops a few times to make sure I wore something that fell over my hips. Well, my fears were definitely founded - these proved waaaay too low-rise (at least for this 35-year-old). The waistband was 3.5 inches below my navel, and as the day wore on, the fabric continued to stretch, and the waistband continued to head south. Not at all functional for a burly hike and steep up and down. Good thing there was the drawstring to keep them (barely) above my hip points.

I also had the problem of the strap for the capri snaps dropping down into my boot - ouch!

Again, lots of good stuff: fabric is great for light hiking pants, seems durable too; the fit was good; length was right on. But these are going back. That low rise is just far too low for active wear. Bummer!!! The hunt for convertible hiking pants continues...

    Pants a la Adventure!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: 4
    • Height: 5'7"

I got these pants for the purpose of trekking around the Jungles of Indonesia come October, but I must admit... I'm already in love! Jungle or not, these pants perform beautifully on long hikes, around town bikes, doing down dogs, or on the climbing wall. Not only are they super breathable and deep-squat friendly, they make the derrière look damn good. I'm happy to say these pants have already seen my first multi-pitch climb. I have a feeling they will be seeing many more firsts.

My only beef with my adventure pants are the silly old-school buttons on the cargo pockets. I'm sure that jamming my iPhone in those pockets will pop those off real soon. I also wish there were pant bottom roll-up snaps on the inseam as well. I find the pants bottoms to come unrolled pretty easily with just one.

    Other than that— Killer.

    Pants a la Adventure!

    Huge, bulky, heavy.

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: 2 Regular
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 115lbs

Apparently in Prana I must be a size 0, because these are enormous on me. The waist is too big so the pants sag so I am standing on the bottom 2" of the legs. But I won't be exchanging them for a smaller size....
The pants are very heavy due to excess fabric "features". Both the rear and the cargo pockets have enormous bulky double-flaps to cover them, and as a previous reviewer noted, they have button closures but the button holes are covered so you can't actually button them - a baffling design. Also all the pockets have sewn-in exterior "pleats" that don't actually expand - so they are just a design feature that adds bulk to your pockets on your butt and thighs (right where you want it, right?) As noted by others, when the legs are on, the zipper pulls are on the inner thigh rather than the outer thigh - so they rub with every step. Huge design flaw. The legs are wide, and get wider at the bottom, so you could probably put these on over your shoes/boots.

    Perfect convertible pants for me!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 4 regular
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 135lbs

I'm pretty easy to please with clothing as long as everything fits. I knew Prana pants run a little small from a past purchase so getting a 4 was spot on with fit for my body. The zippers don't bother me like the other reviewers; I can feel them but they don't scratch or irritate me. My iphone 6 fits great in the cargo pocket for quick pictures on the trail. The leg is wide enough that I didn't have to take off my boots to remove the bottom part of the pants when I got hot. I would have preferred the short length but the regular worked out fine and didn't get caught under my shoes. They are super comfy; I can wear them to work, while doing yard-work and hiking!

    Perfect convertible pants for me!

    Pocket woes

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: 2 short
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 110lbs

These pants fit just like the Halle (e.g. a little big for their size. Maybe that's standard for Prana). The fabric is lightweight and seems stretchy and durable. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the legs zip on and off easily so you can make adjustments on the run. There is also a protective flap of material behind the zipper to protect your legs. Best of all, the waist has snap buttons, which IMO are a must for a well-hydrated hiker's frequent trailside pit stops. Unfortunately, the cargo and rear pockets have regular buttons that tuck inside the pocket flaps, so they're really hard fasten and unfasten. Zippers or snap buttons would have been so much better. Also, the cargo pockets would look better if the pocket material were inside the leg, instead of sewn on the outside. As it is, the pockets are simultaneously too small for a folded 7.5" USGS topo and give the thigh a boxy look (and I have skinny thighs). Sadly, these are going back.

    Field Tech

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 6 Long
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 145lbs

I'm a wildlife field technician, so I spend most of my time in field pants and need ones that I love. These are awesome. The long length was even too long for my 35" inseam! The thigh seam is a little tight when kneeling, but not restrictive. The side pockets are spacious and the fabric is comfy and appears strong so far.

    Great Purchase

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Med-8-10
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 153lbs

Although I felt that I was buying blind folded, the pants turned out pretty good, I bought the long size and I have to fold them up twice so that is good for me as I prefer long to short, the pockets are perfect and I am sure once Summer gets here I will be using them as shorts as well.

fit really well but, zipper might rub

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 0
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 115lbs

The pants fit and feel extremely comfortable except for the zipper's seam rubbing on my inner thigh. I haven't worn them hiking yet, I've only tried them on and walked around.

    Great fit and long enough!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 0 Tall
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 122lbs

It's so hard for me to buy hiking pants because most companies only go up to a 32" inseam or their smallest size is for a 27" waist. The 0 Tall was a perfect fit. I usually wear a 25" waist and 34" length and this is true to size. Bought these for work as a field geologist and yes, the side pockets are a little "saddle baggish", but they fit a field notebook so can't complain!

Stretched out more than a couple sizes

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large

I traveled RTW in these and was sadly let down by their durability. After about 7 or 8 hand washes, they never quite fit the same again. If I had a dryer at my disposal, I suppose they might have shrunk back to their original size (a 6), but drying on the line, there was no hope.
