Nice light
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Fit:
- True to size
Does great for brightness, duration, ease of installation, and charging. I normally drain to zero and fully charge between rides. Because of rain, my last gap between rides was maybe 2 weeks. The battery was already almost dead from sitting in the garage, turned off.

Nice light, but won’t keep charge
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I like how it functions. However, it can’t seem to hold a charge like other lights I have used. After a 90 min ride at the fast blinking mode, I would expect it to have at least another hour left. When I try to go out for a ride a couple of days later, it no longer has any charge left (i.e., it won’t even blink once). Not worth the money and I will return it.

Love this tail light
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
While I've only had the PD Asteroid for a few months, it has become my "go to" tail light. I really like the "double tap" on/off switch. I find it easier to toggle from the saddle as compared with lights that use "press and hold". The fastener uses a double hook, which feels much more secure than my other tail lights. The light and strap are completely integrated, as opposed to a quick release like the Niterider Solas. While I like the Niterider Solas (I've owned two), I broke a strap during a wreck and I lost one when I guess I didn't attach the light to the strap correctly and it was thrown during a ride. This is not intended to bag on the Solas, it's a good product, but I feel the PD Asteroid has a more solid connection to the bike. I can't say how well it will wear yet, but I have used it probably 15 times, a few of those in the rain and it still functions as expected. In all, I'm very happy with this light and am hoping I can get a few years out of it. Will report back when I have any updates. Update: Good news / Bad news Bad news, the clicker stopped working after an especially sandy and wet morning ride. Could not turn it off and there was no way to open the light to clean it out. So I can say, based on this experience, the light is best for city, pavement, commuter work. While trying to fix it, I submerged it over and over and it kept working, so I think it's just the combination of sand and moisture that killed it. Ok, now the good news. Portland Design Works customer service is amazing. They responded to my email within a few hours, didn't give me any static for purchasing the wrong light for my riding style, recommended a new light and had it in the mail while the Astroid was still blinking. All that with good humor and kindness. I will be purchasing PDW accessories again!
