POC Essential Road VPDS Bib Short - Men's

Why We Like The Essential Road VPDS Bib Short

We all have our favorite bibs: the ones that we reach for even if that means reaching into the laundry hamper. Our favorite bibs are simple: providing comfort without restriction, and enough padding to help the miles pass without weighing us down on the climbs. POC's Essential Road Bibs do just that to quickly become our new favorite with a silicone-based VPDs insert and anatomic construction.

POC constructs the Essential Road VPDs Bib Shorts from a compressive fabric to support your muscles for all-day training sessions. The anatomic cut keeps us comfortable on the hoods or in the drops as we chase back onto the lead group for the final kilometers. POC's silicone-based chamois places the padding strategically throughout the insert for maximum comfort to prevent pressure points or chafing. We can ride all day with this breathable insert reducing the harshness of the open road's chip-seal finish. The mesh bib upper keeps the bibs in place, with an integrated pocket to amplify our storage capacity for long rides, while the elasticated leg gripper lies flat and keeps tan lines crisp.
  • An all-around bib short for road training and racing
  • Breathable mesh upper lies flat and wicks away sweat
  • Silicone-based VPDs chamois absorbs road vibration and increases comfort
  • Elasticated leg grippers won't ride up or pinch while mashing the pedals

Nice light bib, but poor chamois quality

I purchased this bib shorts as I wanted to try the POC. Although it fits well, I'm a little concerned about the chamois. There simply isn't much padding and it looks cheaply made. I'll return with feedback. Well... I went for a long 87 mile ride (to NYC) today and these shorts were good for the first 35-50 miles. The last 30+ miles, was a bit uncomfortable in the saddle. The bib shorts fit fairly nicely, but my fears were confirmed. I'll probably look at one of the other or more expensive POC bib shorts.

Nice light bib

Very nice and very light bib with good compression. I would say runs a tad bit small but you start to forget about it after a few rides. I have a 29 hips and bought small.

One of my favorite bibs but...

Got these during the POC sale that dropped these down to $119. Materials and fit wise, it is my favorite bibs of the 3 brands I own that include GORE and Specialized. There is one and only aspect of this bib that I do not like and it's chamois, which is very thin and the coverage doesn't seem to be as good as other bibs. It's a shame because the fit and the elastic grippers are fantastic.

I echo those sentiments about the chamois size. I'm disappointed in the quality of the chamois. I expected better quality from POC and at a $150 price point, the quality just wasn't what I expected.

I had previously purchased the POC Avip ceramic short so I had a good reference point for these shorts. I like the chamois, it's not bulky at all, I don't tend to ride more than thirty miles and it's very comfortable. The overall fit is tight and compressive in the right ways. The material is fairly lightweight, not as light or airy as the Avip ceramic pair, it'll still get worn during hot Florida summer days. It's a sleek good-looking bib short.
