Loam Lever

One of the best upgrades to mountain bikes in the last decade is the evolution and proliferation of dropper seatposts. Despite advancements in the performance and reliability of dropper posts, a lot of the actuation levers feel like an afterthought, especially ones sporting cheap materials or poor ergonomics. After testing a bunch of levers, PNW Components decided they could do better and created the Loam Lever—a premium dropper post remote that combines satisfying ergonomics with precision and durability. PNW obsessed over the design as they wanted a lever that felt crisp, was easy to push, and had a natural feel through its stroke. With the Loam Lever they've hit these marks and made something that's truly fun to press, and quite possibly the smoothest lever action we've ever felt on a dropper.

The Loam Lever has four key characteristics that set it apart from others on the market: adjustability, weather proofing, no slip grip, and precise construction. Adjustability is straightforward. It includes a two position side to side as well as a pivoting reach adjustment that let you position the lever right where you want it. As far as weather resistance goes, the Loam Lever was built to withstand the rigors of a wet Pacific North West winter and the exaggerated wear it causes to your components. Water and grime persistently get into the nuts, bolts, and bearings of your bike and cause degradation. Levers that use plastic or injected carbon degrade quickly in these conditions, and so do low grade bearings and bushings. To combat this, PNW uses an oversized high quality double-sealed bearing as well as all stainless hardware to keep the lever from binding up and failing even after extended wet weather riding.

Perhaps the defining feature of this lever is the grippy injection-molded thumb pad. We're surprised nobody else does this, because it makes a lot of sense. It feels good against your thumb and provides no slip grip even in the sloppiest conditions. And should you wear it out, it's replaceable. The rest of the lever is custom CNC-machined aluminum that's constructed with precision in order to reduce weight while remaining totally durable. The Loam Lever is available with different colors of thumb pad, fastens to your handlebars via a standard 22.2mm hinge clamp, is compatible with any cable-actuated dropper post, and includes a Jagwire derailleur cable inside the 100% recyclable packaging so you can easily get started.

Perfect and simple lever. Hasn't had a single fault in 2 years of use. Ergonomics are perfect too.

An excellent product.

I own three loam levers. It's just such a nice, simple design. It's very easy to adjust the cable length. It's well made and there is nothing extra or stupid. It's expensive for a tiny piece of kit but it does the job effortlessly and perfectly. I completely forget about them and they feel natural to use.

They should include all the parts

I read the install instructions from PNW website which shows the cable housing and end covers, so was very disappointed when the post and lever arrived and neither included a cable housing. cable wire but no housing! Makes no sense, especially at this price. The Crank Bros post I got for another bike included everything, and for a better price. This set up is going to have to work VERY well (once I go back to town to get the needed parts) before I'll give it a good review.

My seatpost dropper has transformed my biking and I depend on it continually. When I broke the weak seatpost dropper lever I gave this a try based on reviews. Wow! Easy to install and what a difference! My wife demanded I replace her lever with this PNW as soon as she felt what a good lever can do. Ordered the SRAM MMX so integrated with my Guide R braking system and cleaned up my handlebars. Very happy with purchase and will buy again if I upgrade my bike. The fact that we can get the rubber contact to match our bikes is just icing on the performance cake.

I put these on all my bikes

... because the levers that come on the bikes are always sucky. Super nice lever and genuinely will make a huge difference in how well your dropper works. It's definitely worth getting. Would consider upgrading your dropper to PNW as well, but not mandatory.

I need a 6th Star

This my friends is the lever of all levers. The ace of actuators. The pinnacle of pressers for your opposable digit...it's the best! The next best thing chews your thumb up like the teeth of wild dog. This lever on the other hand has a perfect pillow for your thumb. Just enough grip to never slip. The lever spins on a cartridge bearing. While that makes it rotate smoothly, the bigger impact is how precise it makes it feel. There's no up or down jiggle or binding. It only glides through its travel precisely in the intended direction. On top of the excellent machining of the metal, PNW has built in the right amount of adjustments to be able to get the lever exactly where I like it. Not just side to side, but the lever can be adjusted in an out so that your thumb finds it pillow perfectly without any strain. On top of all that, you can color coordinate the colors of this controller to your favorite steed. I love it so much I bought their limited Shifty lever (no longer available) to make my thumb shift lever match this magical bit of machinery!

Might want to mention that housing isn't

included. It comes with the lever and cable, but no housing, which is needed to install this. On the PNW site, they state that housing is included, i guess that is not true for the inventory CC currently has. Any gearheads want to chime in on which housing will work best?

No housing...

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

The manufacturer description includes the housing but this version doesn't include the housing. Only comes with the cable, one screw, and mount. Yes I read the description before I bought it. I figured it was a typo. That's why I referenced the manufacturer's website for what is included. Other than that, product looks and feels like good quality.

My new favorite lever

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I've used a whole bunch of levers over the years- some good and some just terrible. I've been using the other "best" lever available for a few years now, and this one just took it's spot. It's easy to install, buttery smooth, and nicely adjustable. The little adjuster on the back side that takes up slack and/or adjusts the lever position is an awesome feature. And I thought the rubber pad was just a gimmick, but it really is effective and puts it over the top for the best in feel and quality. I'll certainly keep buying these as long as they keep making 'em.

Don't buy the I-spec EV version!!!!!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

The lever itself is great, but it doesn't actually work with I-spec EV. I spoke with PNW components and they sent me a new ring clamp. but it's rather annoying when you're trying to declutter your handlebars. PNW said they no longer will support I-spec EV and blamed Shimano for having changed the spec since it came out.
