clean tasting water, at last!!

Familiarity:

True to size

Ahhhh, finally water that tastes like water. The stock hydration reservoirs that come with packs these days make water taste horrible. I'd be willing to pay more up front to a company like Patagonia if they used a Platypus BPA/BPS free reservoir in all the packs they sell. Why not? Sounds like a good partnership to me. It's better for our health and better for the environment. Most stock reservoirs make water taste so horrible that I'm sure they are often landfilled. Let's push backpack companies to give us more environmentally friendly and safer water reservoirs at the point of purchase!

Nice while it lasted.

Bought this to replace an older Platypus Big Zip reservoir. The higher flow rate of the drinking tube is nice. Unfortunately, the internal divider broke in half after about 10 days of use on the JMT. I think the harder plastic of the new design is more prone to fatigue failure. It still holds water but it has the profile of a foot ball. I contacted Platypus over 6 weeks ago but no reply.

I loved it at first - but leaking issue

I've used this bladder a ton and loved it initially - SUPER easy to fill with water and lock into place using the zip method. It also didn't taint the taste of the water nearly as much as some other reservoirs I've tried. But after a few uses, the mouthpiece started leaking - nothing dramatic, but just a small dribble. It lessens when the valve is shut, but opening and closing it all the time actually isn't that easy nor is it convenient. I went online and sadly discovered on other sites besides Backcountry that this is a common issue with their valves. Bummer! My buddy has an Osprey bladder that uses a similar zip-full technology but has never had an issue with leaks, so I'm going to try that.

I think it's supposed to leak from the mouthpiece. Into your mouth :D

Platypus Big Zip EVO Reservoir

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I have as a gift, but have feedback to share. One thing I have always loved about platypus that keeps me coming back for more is the clean taste of the water. The Platypus Big Zip EVO Reservoir is true to form. Plus, I love the added feature in the inside to help the bladder have a lower profile, making it easier to load in my pack.

Great Hydration Reservoir for backpackin

Familiarity:

Wow...the Platypus Big Zip EVO 3.0 Liter performed great on my 2 week backpacking trek to Philmont Scout Ranch this past June. In fact, I was able to drink our good city water the first 3 days before I had to fill it up again. I have used other reservoirs before and some can easily leak or come "unzipped" at inopportune moments. Not the Platypus! It performed like a champ. Not a single leak the entire two weeks and the water tasted great the entire time. Great flow rate once you bit down the right way on the bite valve. And what was really great was the volume of water I could carry that stayed cool the entire time. With 3 liters insulated by camping gear, and temps at night in the 40's, I enjoyed cold water each day. Unlike what I would have experienced with water bottles that heat up quicker. I would highly recommend this reservoir. It is very easy to fill and the parts come off and go on very easily.

GREAT

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

The hose attachment at the top of the bladder makes it easier to load, especially in a external pack sleeve. The hose is slightly larger than average, which is supposed to make the flow rate faster. Very easy to fill.
