The king of the mountain.
The long revered Pivot Mach 6 is a bike we've held a candle to for many years, and that flame is far from burning out with the newest iteration of the enduro beast. Longer, lower, and — dare we say it —even more capable than before, the 2018 Pivot Mach 6 Carbon Mountain Bike Frame has us wrapped around its finger with its 6-inches of supple DW-link suspension and gravity-hungry geometry that tracks though burly lines like a hungry lioness stalking her prey. This combination of progressive geometry and pedal-ability unite to create a bike that's the perfect choice for dropping into beefy terrain at race-pace, and pedaling right back to the top for another lap when you reach the bottom.
A 65.75-degree head tube angle gives you a pleasant greeting as soon as you approach the 2018 Mach 6, with its slack and relaxed stature, it beacons you to find out just how stable and capable it is when you point it downhill. When you're descending the bike pulls you into the cockpit, maximizing your control and stability at high speeds so you can blast berms and roll through chundery rock gardens, but not at the sacrifice of agility. Keeping you forward in the cockpit maintains the liveliness of the bike, so you can flick and pounce off of roots and rocks, making even the flatter and more mundane trail sections exactly as much fun as you want them to be.
As Newton's third law would have it, we don't get to enjoy those sweet descents without fighting against gravity on the climb up to begin with. Fortunately, Pivot partners with DW-link to get us to the top without squat and bobbing when we're mashing on the pedals up tight switchbacks and loose roots. Pivot's engineers ensure that you won't be stuck behind the back wheel when you're pushing your way to the top by pairing the slacked out head tube angle with a steeper seat tube angle to keep you forward on the bike for better transfer of power, and more control when you have to crank on the bars for that last push up a steep punch. The cockpit is also a bit roomier than previous generations, which helps keep the front wheel on the ground and engaged through steep pitches, enabling better power transfer when you maneuver up techy uphill features.
Perhaps one of our favorite features of Pivot bikes is the fact that the geometry doesn't remain identical from one size to another. Instead of shrinking and growing a frame from one size to the next, the frames are fine tuned to the needs of each rider's size. Keeping geometry customized for every rider size helps the bike maintain its exceptional performance from one size to the next. In the 2018 Mach 6 most noticeable change in geometry from size to size is the found in the reach, with Medium through XL sizes seeing an increase in reach, while the Small and X-Small maintain a compact cockpit dialed in for shorter riders. Both still see the climbing advantages provided by the steeper seat tube angle, and nimble, capable handling on descents, but with a fit that works with the rider, instead of against.
A —ahem, pivotal part of any Pivot bike is found in the DW-link rear suspension, where the magic respectively happens. The Mach 6 uses an iteration of DW that's been dialed in for long-travel applications to provide a variable wheel travel path that offers phenomenal square-edge bump absorption and soaks up big hits on technical descents while delivering the famous anti-squat support that allows non-stop traction on steep climbs. These two characteristics combine into one machine that climbs like a short-travel bike, and descends with power and authority.
An absolutely essential part of your rear suspension is what shock you pair with the linkage. Pivot doesn't skimp on the Mach 6's shock, setting you up with 155-millimeters of buttery-smooth Kashima-coated travel from the Fox Factory Float DPX2 shock with EVOL air sleeve. The shock features the X2 oil flow design, but in a lighter weight and better pedaling package designed for superior performance in aggressive trail and enduro applications, while maintaining individual tune-ability so you can dial in the shock perfectly for your own riding needs. The Float DPX2's air sleeve reduces the force needed to initiate travel, which means faster and smoother absorption when it comes to small bump compliance, and better bottom-out resistance. The shock is adjustable on-the-fly with the Open, Medium, and Firm options, and additional high-speed and low-speed compression adjustments when in Open so every rider can get find a setting that best compliments their riding.
Last, but certainly not least is Pivot's carbon fiber. Pivot uses an exclusive hollow-core internal molding process, paired with exceptional materials and highly skilled workmanship, to create a nearly flawless product. This unique molding process applies outward force against the mold while the carbon is cured inside, reducing resin pooling and securing the layup between an internal bladder and CNC machined mold. The bladder is removed as soon as the curing process is completed, so there is no additional weight on the inside of the frame once the process is completed. Since the Mach 6 Carbon is designed to not only be lightweight, but near bombproof as well, its designers borrowed some carbon layup techniques from the Firebird and Phoenix to increase the level of stiffness and strength, adding large-tube cross sections, a double-wishbone rear triangle, and ultra-stiff clevis to ensure that the bike can handle the abuse that gravity-centric riding puts on bikes.

Any idea what the weight of the frame and shock is in a size medium?
Will you do frame only? Sans shock.
All of our full suspension mountain bike frames will include a rear shock as that is how the manufacturers distribute them to vendors.
