Why We Like The Pivot Mach 4 SL Ride GX/X01 Eagle Mountain Bike
Whether we're smashing hot laps on our local trails or toeing the line at an XC race, the meticulously-crafted Mach 4 SL is the companion we need to take our racing career to the next level. While the previous version of the Mach 4 SL was prized for its speed and agile handling, Pivot re-imagined what a cross-country race bike could be and revamped this year's model to be more capable without losing sight of its race origins. Equipped with a slacker headtube angle, a steeper seat tube angle, a longer wheelbase, a redesigned rocker link with a flip chip that gives us more travel, and a lighter-weight carbon frame, the Pivot Mach 4 SL is a race machine that now has the ability to take on whatever we can throw at it. Now sitting on 106mm of DW-Link suspension, the Mach 4 SL not only allows us to be more confident in rougher terrain but incorporates a flip chip into the rocker link that allows us to change the travel to 115mm, giving us the option to change our bikes capabilities as the terrain changes. With a 66.7-degree head tube angle equipped with a 120mm fork, the head tube angle is much slacker than the previous model, allowing us to be more composed and confident when descending. A longer reach and wheelbase also allow us to be more stable on the descents, and a steeper seat tube angle puts us in a more efficient pedaling position to make short work of the technical climbs. All around, the Mach 4 SL has been redesigned to take on the ever-evolving modern XC race courses that seem to be getting rougher every year.
This Ride GX/X01 kit is on the more affordable end of the spectrum but still comes with a solid group of components we can trust for daily training rides and race day. First, Pivot is known for their high-end carbon fiber frames, and this year's Mach 4 SL is no exception. The Mach 4 SL received a diet of sorts and lost 280 grams compared to the previous model's frame without sacrificing stiffness or strength. This ride is equipped with Fox Performance suspension to dampen rough trails and offer intuitive adjustments that make it easy to find our ideal setup. A mix of GX and X01 drivetrain components give us crisp shifting, are super reliable, and have a huge 12-speed gear range that allows us to get up technical climbs quickly. DT Swiss X1900 rims laced to DT 370 hubs offer us a high-performing alloy wheelset that is reliable and durable enough to handle anything we can put it through. To wrap it up, this build received Maxxis Ardent race tires to keep the bike rolling fast without giving up any grip in the process.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
