    Open the door.

By splitting its complete power meter system into multiple, free-standing pieces, Pioneer essentially provided a gateway to get into the watts-measuring game gradually rather than dropping over $1,000 at once. The Right Side Power Upgrade Kit is actually just a box that, if you drop your drivetrain crank arm and chainrings in and ship it off to Pioneer, transforms your mundane crankset into a power meter-equipped data monster. Of course, the process isn't magical or mysterious at all. It's simple. While Pioneer has your drive-side crank arm, it will install a power meter sensor to it, and the only labor you need to worry about is re-installing the crank.

The Right Side Power Upgrade Kit is perfectly capable of functioning as a stand-alone power meter; however, when combined with Pioneer's non-drive-side power meter, it opens the door for more accurate measurements by logging numbers for both legs rather than just doubling the readings recorded through a single crank arm. While the Single Leg system works well, the Dual Leg model takes your numbers and training to the next level.

    I've got the power!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

First off: I chose the right side upgrade over the left side due to frame clearance issues. Second: I LOVE this thing! Not only does it aid in training, once you have established your FTP, it makes group and solo rides much more useful, gauge your efforts with real data feedback. The first few rides were (for me) was to see how strong I am, and how long you can pump up the watts, after that urge to smash subsided (only barely) its all about consistency. I haven't noticed any inconsistent surges in data, I have been religiously calibrating the meter to my Garmin before every ride, which only takes 10 seconds. The staff at Pioneer was first class! they turned over the install of the power meter in 7 days...from the day I dropped it in the mail, to install, and returned back to me...7 days!!! It may have been faster if I dropped it in the mail on a Monday morning. I look forward to the long term effects and progression in my training and fitness. Now I want power meters on ALL of my bikes.

Is it possible to just get the drive-side power meter upgrade without the non-drive side meter installed? Or is this kit for those that already have the non-drive side meter and are looking for dual-leg power readings?
