Why We Like The Grevil Allroad Frameset

Pinarello officially joins the gravel and mixed surface party with its Grevil Allroad Frameset. With flat-mount disc-specific construction, stiff 12mm thru-axles, and equal parts agile and stable geometry, the Grevil Allroad brings a rare mix of exceptional comfort, classic Pinarello aesthetics, and efficient speed to your next pavement or off-road adventure. And while we did enjoy riding the outgoing Gan GR, the Grevil is so much more refined with its increased tire clearance, compatibility with 650b and 700c wheels, a third set of water bottle bosses under the downtube, and updated geometry.

The Grevil features similar eye-catching styling cues as the top-tier Dogma K10, with its signature curves, aero section, and asymmetry. Pinarello's goal was to make a bike that was fast over gravel and the road sections that connect them without relying on any suspension systems that can sap power. To do so, it relied on aero tube shapes that help slice through the wind and drop watts loss to air resistance as well as slightly flattened chainstays and seatstays that impart additional compliance over the bumps while maintaining lateral stiffness.

The most notable difference between the Grevil and its high-end cousin is the type of carbon used to make them. While the Grevil+ boasts the top-end of the top-tier Torayca T1100 1K Dream Carbon with Nanoalloy Technology, the Grevil consists of slightly more compliant T700 UD carbon, which gains weight and sacrifices a tiny bit of stiffness but drops the overall cost significantly. While this carbon is slightly less rigid than the T1100 1K, it remains a high-strength, race-worthy layup designed to handle hard miles over varied terrain. It's every bit as light and stiff as the bikes that many of our cycling heroes rode to grand tour and monument wins not that long ago. We should also note that, like most cycling fans, we still lust after those bikes even as technology pushes ever further into the future.

Since this is a Pinarello at the end of the day, we'd be remiss not to point out some of the aerodynamic signature features like an oval-front and FlatBack profile tube shaping throughout the frame and fork, creating an aerodynamic profile that slices cleanly through the wind without any extra materials bogging down the scale. Fork Flaps, an FSC integrated seat clamp, and aero seat post add to the wind-cutting advantage and offer clean, uninterrupted frame lines.

The Pinarello Grevil Allroad Frameset features carefully engineered Think 2 internal cable routing, complete with E-Link Di2 junction box compatibility on the down tube, that works with both mechanical and electronic shifting systems for an added dose of aerodynamics and crisp, clean lines for any setup. It's finished with a threaded Italian bottom bracket that does away with PressFit's creak and longevity issues, a trend that we're happy to see resurfacing across the industry.

Fast & Furious

I've used it several times

Got the opportunity to ride the Pinarello Grevil for a few weeks in December of 2019. Before you ask - no I did not take it on snow during that timeframe - rode a bunch of gravel service roads in Gold Butte National Monument, The monument protects nearly 300,000 acres of land between Lake Mead & Grand Canyon-Parashant Monument. The Grevil was setup on a pair of Fulcrum Rapid Red 650b's fitted with Venture Resolute's (42mm) - drivetrain was Ultegra Di2 8050. Initial impressions aligned closely with what I expected from a Pinarello: IT FELT FAST, and this was just riding on the pavement & service roads around my neighborhood before the trip south. Riding only 700c gravel bikes earlier that year, I knew that "gravel riding" was latin for "sketchy fun" - but that's reflective of my bike handling abilities, coming from being a dedicated roadie. The build overall felt pretty lightweight, the component spec performed flawlessly at all times (as to be expected from Ultegra Di2) and 650b's were incredibly forgiving on "mable-sized" gravel roads (always weird trying to quantify gravel conditions). The frame felt stiff and responsive on the road, while being able to soak up a lot of chatter with the plush tire volume, I was riding probably around 50 - 65 PSI - and I couldn't get over how much power I could transfer into the bike, without getting my fillings shaken loose. It certainly felt like a "competitive race-oriented gravel bike".

What is the actual frame and fork weight of a 53 cm frame?

Hi John, Sorry, but we do not have the exact weight on the frame. There are a few publications with claimed weights but those are numbers from the manufacturer and usually for a size 56cm. Please reach out to me directly and we can work on getting an exact weight on the frameset. 801-619-7476 Thank you

What is the tire clearance for 700c and 650b wheels?

700c * 42 and 650b * 2.1
