Real Food Energy Bars
Picky Bars' lighthearted approach to marketing and promotional materials is at stark odds with the actual nuts and bolts (and berries) that inform the science behind the Real Food Energy Bars. If you don't give a fig for that stuff and just want to get fueled and get after it, then by all means just click on the Add to Cart button and enjoy some active nutrition that actually tastes like food. We're into the know-how behind the can-do, though, so we dug through the goods to find out what makes them tick.
The ABCs of Picky Bars begin with Agave, end with Walnuts, and are filled out by equally "real" ingredients that target the sweet-spot of a 4:1 ratio of carbs to protein. The most exotic-sounding entry on the list is Pepitas, which are actually just pumpkin seeds, and which Picky Bars suggests help in recovery and metabolizing sugars. The rest of the normal-type foodstuffs are chosen for similar science-y benefits—not even the pedestrian, who-needs-an-excuse chocolate chip is spared from scrutiny (anti-toxin properties that promote blood flow).
Of course, if the exhaustive biology informing the ingredient choices isn't enough, just trying one will win you over. They may resemble typical workout bars, but they don't taste like them. They're also dairy-free, gluten-free, soy-free, non-GMO, and vegan, so the only bar to entry is trying to tear the package open with your teeth in the saddle.

Picky Bars are Great for Picky Eaters
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Height
- 5` 11"
- Weight
- 146 lbs
I have yet to try any bar from Picky Bars that did not taste like the ingredients it had as listed. Clean, wholesome, macro-nutrient dense sustenance for the trails. Good tasting, easy on digestion, and do not linger or coat your mouth in that syrupy grossness so many other bars do. While this isn't something calorie appropriate to snack on without exercise, these are perfect for refueling on the long trail. My wife in particular does not usually enjoy energy bars, but has gobbled these up when we are out exploring and has offered only smiles about it! Good stuff. We most enjoy the Smooth Caffeineator & Need for Seed

Chai
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Enough said. I've had a few of these and that's my favorite flavor for sure. I usually think that energy bars taste a bit too play-doughy for me, but these are surprisingly good. Nothing close to bad with any of the flavors I have had, but chai is for sure the goat.

Love these!
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I have always loved Picky Bars & the updated recipe is even better. These are my go-to for fuel while racing or training. The Ah, Fudge Nuts! flavor tastes like a treat which makes it easier to take down mid-run.

I love Picky Bars. Lara Bars are good, but it is better to be Picky.

A little sticky and sweet
I love that these bars are made with real food, but since they're date-based, they tended to be a little sweeter than I like.

Yum!

Love these bars. They are moist enough to eat when tired and lacking water. I could get these down much easier than others. Well balanced with the nutrition needed on the trail! Taste good too!

Picky Bars Real Food Energy Bars
Well, this review is for "Ag Fudge" To be honest, doesnt taste too good but it calorie packed and good amount of sodium... which makes it an ideal food for long rides..

Chalky

not a huge fan of the texture. Pretty chalky like many of these types of meal bars. The Smooth Caffeinator flavor isn't too bad, but I prefer Kate's Real Food bars.

nom nom nom cookie doughpness flavor
- Familiarity:

I would eat this for energy on a long bike ride or just as a snack. The flavor was enjoyable and the texture was east to get down without having to drink all my water.

They've grown on me
First box I wasn't all that excited about, but I tried some new flavors and they are made of good ingredients and fuel me for a day of ski touring.
