    Adaptable lighting solution.

Saving precious weight on alpine missions and camping trips, the Petzl Zipka Headlamp is a compact lighting solution that's highly adaptable thanks to its retracting cord. This retractable cord attaches the Zipka to a wide variety of gear when it's not being attached to your head, expanding its versatility for just about any outdoor activity you find yourself immersed in.

The Zipka's 200-lumen output is powerful enough for illuminating broad swaths of trail when you're navigating back to your vehicle after dark. Three lighting modes offer functionality for navigation, sorting through your pack, and reading trail maps after dark. The red lighting mode won't strain your vision for reading or blind group members within close proximity. For times when you accidentally drop this tiny light, the phosphorescent reflector allows you to spot it on the lying on the ground or in your tent.

    Super compact

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Love how small this is due tot he strap. My only gripe is the no red lamp. It's plenty bright for me though and the glow in the dark thing on the front makes it easy to find when you put it down.

    IT'S LIT

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Picked this up for some dawn patrol hikes. It's been fantastic and has settings that are actually a bit brighter than I needed. I started using it as another light source for bike commuting at dawn/dust. Really light. Really simple. Doesn't have too strong of a hold but that's okay on top of a hat and the string won't dig into your head if you don't have a hat on.

    Minimalist Headlamp

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Awfully clear that Petzl had only one intention when making this head lamp. Make something that works and will last maybe forever. This was my first and only backpacking headlamp and its unique compact design has allowed me to save space while knowing I have a reliable source of some pretty powerful lumens. The self adjusting head band allows for easy on and easy off but, be careful though as hair tends to get caught while retracting the adjuster.

If you want a gimmick free, well designed, lightweight/compact head lamp there is no other choice. It's quickly finding itself on many of my pursuits other. Looking forward to owning it for another 4+ years!

    Quality and cheap

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I borrowed a Zipka for the weekend, and while I am not sure that I'll give up my own, more substantial headlamp in favor of a Zipka, the super minimalist design is pretty convenient.
The cord-like strap works a lot better than I initially thought it would. I'd planned on taping it to my helmet, but the little elastic cord kept the headlamp in place well enough.
In terms of lighting, the Zipka is bright, has multiple red light settings, and feels easy to adjust.
Mackenzie referenced the glow in the dark ring on the Zipka in her review, and like her, I actually found that feature super helpful.
For the price, it is hard to find a better headlamp than the zipka.

    Versatile Little Thing

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I took this down to Moab this weekend, and I was impressed right away. I have another Petzl headlamp, but I am always adjusting it to fit on my head with a hat, without a hat, with a helmet, etc. Needless to say, I was excited to have an auto-adjusting device, and the Petzl Tipka didn't disappoint.

GLOW IN THE DARK. The headlamp glows (when it's off) so it's easy to find in your pack, etc. A killer extra feature that shows Petzl's dedication to innovation and functionality--very impressed.

Slips off ... When I was going sans hat or helmet, I found that it would sometimes slip off my head/hair. Maybe my hair is just silky smooth and this is user error (kidding). In all serious, though, I would be a bit worried about having this slip off when I was climbing or doing another activity.

All in all, this is a rockstar device at an amazing price.
