Light enough to send, comfortable enough to work a project.

The Petzl Sama Harness gives sport climbers the lightweight performance they need to send and is comfortable enough for long sessions spent working out sequences on a project. The waist belt is wider on the sides, and the elastic leg loops have double webbing for improved weight distribution, ultimately providing enhanced comfort. The tie-in point is made with a high-tenacity polyethylene to resist wear from rope friction, while four gear loops easily accommodate quickdraws and a standard trad rack.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I’ve been wearing this harness for years. It survived 4 months of dirtbagging and then some. Comfortable for 1600 foot climbs. I like that I don’t have to adjust the leg loops. Gear loops are just big enough for doubles to 3, alpine draws, cord, etc. This is my third harness. Will most likely buy a 4th when this one needs retiring.

    So comfortable

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The medium harness fits my 32 waste perfectly, the elastic leg loops make it for a quick dressing. The gear loops are strong and were more durable than I expected. The bright orange isn't too bright which is nice while on the crag. It has been a stellar harness that has kept me alive through some gnarly falls and is comfortable while belaying even on a multi-pitch.

    Lasted long.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had this harness for a little over a year and I have been pretty pleased with it until it recently has started falling apart. The hard parts and important safety features are all still 100% in tact, but the comfort level on this harness has decreased significantly. This harness is definitely meant for sport climbing. I do plenty of multipitch in it, and it is doable, but it leaves bruises on my legs and back eventually after long days on the wall. I'm surprised it has lasted this long though, because I have worn it a TON.

    Amazing & Lightweight!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The best harness I have owned yet! Extremely lightweight and has been perfect for sport climbing. The harness is also really comfortable, I highly recommend purchasing the Sama!

    Light and comfy

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I really enjoy this harness for sport climbing. It fits very well, is light, and definitely sturdy enough to give you piece of mind. I've fallen on it, sat in on the wall while working a route, and sat in it while belaying and it has not disappointed. I went of the sizing chart and found it to be correct.

    Awesome Harness

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I don't use a harness too often as I prefer to boulder instead. However, I took this with me down to Canyonlands for canyoneering and I loved it! In the past I've had a lot of harnesses ride up and be real uncomfortable, but this was hardly noticeable.

I was limited to using a size small, but with a 32 waist they were just barely on the small side for me. I probably would have preferred a medium instead.

    Awesome Harness

Like it's not there, until you need it

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'm a beginner and so far only climb in the gym, which means I don't know crap, but it's important that I feel comfortable with my gear. I can't even tell I'm wearing this harness, whether I'm climbing, belaying, hangdogging, or waiting for my climber to stop hangdogging. I was concerned about the non-adjustable leg loops at first, but they are perfect at not being noticeable when climbing, but also being in the right place and supportive enough when they're needed. And it's one of the least expensive quality harnesses out there. As long as you can stomach the orange color, you won't be sorry.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The Petzl Sama Harness is pretty sweet. I demoed it for a couple days and was super impressed with how light and solid it was. Most of the harnesses I have used in the past have straps that adjust around your leg. The Sama has fitted elastic leg loops. The legs fit perfectly and it was cool not to have to deal with the buckles. The waist was nice, thinner in the front and back but thicker on the sides giving you a very secure feel. I would use this harness sport climbing and on shorter trad climbs. If you have any questions hit me at 801-523-4075 or email me at

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This harness is definitely a do it all. I have some really thick thigh and was nervous at first without the adjustable leg loops, but they definitely stretch out nicely and aren't too tight. This harness is comfortable and has plenty of gear loops.

I would definitely recommend it. Feel free to reach out directly with any questions about this harness or anythign at all. (801)204-4657

    Great harness

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Does everything I need. Plenty of gear loops for all the gear I need, light weight, non adjustable leg loops. Holding up great after some time sport climbing at my local gym.

    Boyfriend's Favorite Harness

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Got this to replace my boyfriend's harness that he has worn to pieces. He loves the fit and lightweight features of this harness and will continue to replace this one once he puts this one through the same beating the old one went through!

    Boyfriend's Favorite Harness

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've used and abused it for the past 2 years and it is holding up better than I expected! I've used this harness for sport, trad and multi pitch and found it to be very comfortable and has ample space for gear. I'm about a 31 waist and found that the medium fits me pretty well, its almost too big but the small is just a little too small. I wouldn't recommend it for mountaineering or ice climbing because the leg loops aren't adjustable and you might find it difficult to get them over your pants if you don't have skinny legs. But i would highly recommend it for everything else!

Maybe Not For Mountaineers, Tight Fit

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I was recently disappointed that I had to return this harness. It is of very high quality and, ultimately, was very comfortable.

I am a larger guy: 6'0'', 195 lbs; however, I measure, waist wise, at the "large" size (less than 35" waist). My legs are thicker due to my mountain climbing an exercise regimen. My larger leg size prevented me from being able to feel confident in rather tight fit of the legs, especially as I would have to put the harness over my layering system.

I paid another $10.00 after the return and got the Adjama. Despite the leg size measuring roughly the same in the chart, it ended up being more adjustable (as it is an adjustable) and inspired more confidence in the harness system, itself.

    Nice Legs!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

    Description: very nice
I like this harness a lot. I have only used it for repelling so far and it has been great! Very comfy! The elastic legs are a lot nicer than expected. They hug your legs, and you never have to adjust them!

    Fantastically simple and light

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Like my title says, this harness is fantastically simple and almost impossibly light. With just one adjustment, the waist belt, this harness is a straightforward performance machine. I use this harness in the gym and on projects where I know I won't be hanging in it for long. The reason I use the sama harness for these situations is that it does not quite center perfect on me and the leg straps are not the most breathable, but for what this harness is designed for it excels in. Buy this harness right away if you want something simple, light, and attractive, because I bought it in orange and the color is fantastic.

    Simply perfect...

Petzel did amazing work with this harness! They more than exceeded my expectations in quality, comfort, and performance. This was actually the first harness I ever bought, I had heard great things about it from gear heads at backcountry and fellow climbers at my local rock gym. If that wasn't enough then trying it on was the deciding factor. The sama is easily the most comfortable harness I've worn in its price range. After using it a few times in the gym I have only one complaint, and for gym climbing this isn't a problem. The gear loops in the back seem kinda floppy, they are firm but lay flat to the sides of the harness. That is definitely the only thing I would change.

      Unanswered Question

What is the difference between this and the previous version, the red sama?
