    Summer excitement!

Excited to take my nieces and nephew climbing when they visit from California this summer (7, 5, 4). The youngest is a little daredevil it should be a blast. Construction looks good and sturdy and I like the fun pattern.

      Good kids harness

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I use this harness with my 6 year old son. He has not complained about comfort at all. The harness is easy to put on and simple to use if you take your time. I like it because it takes up little space in my pack and I don't have to worry about him going inverted.

      Good first harness!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Got it for my 4 year old son.
It fits him as well as his friends and brothers aged 5-10. Side straps always seem to be loose even on older kids. This in no way affects the safety, though.

Hours of fun for you and your [kids]

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Picked this up on an impulse "just in case I want to take the kids out top roping" I told the wife. We ended up using it at a reunion for all the kids in the extended family. Worked perfectly on my 3yo (super tall for her age 95% for height) and everyone else up to about 7.. after that they just used the standard camp universal harnesses...

Fit was great. Kids weren't uncomfortable at all and no unintended inversions.

Bonus use as a ski leash

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My kids, ages 3 & 4.5, use this harness at the crag, at the climbing gym, and it works great! They don't complain about the materials or the buckles digging in, though some of the other review are right, Petzl could have added more padding in some places. It can be a little bit confusing to get on and off but once you get the hang of it, it's no big deal.

BONUS: I saw a bunch of folks using these fancy "ski leashes" when taking my 4.5 year old skiing. They're like $40. With a bit of webbing and couple biners, I use this harness as a ski leash and get a lot of compliments on it. I put the harness over his snow pants, but under his jacket, and clip the webbing in (just clove hitch the webbing to the biner ) on the back loops just above the legs. This puts the pressure point right at his hips. Better than tugging on what is basically a backpack on the dedicated ski leashes. Before we get on the lift, gather the webbing and shove it in the hood of his jacket, or quickly unclip it for the safest method.

Bonus use as a ski leash

I got this for my three year old nephew and my 10 year old skinny as a rail sister. My sister is almost ready to graduate to a regular harness but this saved me some serious bucks when thinking about getting both of them into climbing. I built a bouldering wall for myself in the back yard and this helps me practice belay while getting the kids to feel more confidant on the wall and familiar with gear and safety procedure.

I don't think it fits me

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

We carry a couple of these at work, and in my experience, it's not the kids that want them it's the parent. I have used this once to belay a kid which means I had to put it on them as well. So lets just say putting this on someone the first time is an adventure with many tangles and "could you put your leg through this loop. no this one... the one I'm holding!"

        Terrible fit

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

We bought this full-body harness at our local gym so our 4-yo could start top roping. Our two older sons are competitive climbers so we know how a harness should fit. However, this full-body style just doesn't fit our 4-yo no matter how we try to adjust it.

He's on the small side (3'4" and 35 pounds) and this harness just never fits well. The metal buckles near the shoulders always rest on his shoulders and he complains that they dig into him and are uncomfortable. The leg loops are enormous, and even though his climbing coach has tried to adjust the shoulder straps so the buckles don't rest on his shoulders and irritate him and always has him tied in securely, it's just a lousy fit. The material is stiff and harsh and doesn't soften with use. This harness sucks. I wish we could return it.

        Sweet kids harness!

I grabbed this harness for my nieces and nephews, ages range from 3-10. This harness is adjustable so the harness fits all the kiddos in my family. This harness has a chest tie-in, this keeps kids in the harness even if your kids goes sideways/up-side down. All the kids though this harness was very comfortable! The pattern was such a hit!

          Great Kids Harness

We took one of these to the City of Rocks in Idaho and were able to use it on four different kids, ranging from age 3 to 7 years old. It is a bit fumbly at first to figure out how it goes on, but once you do it a few times, it becomes very easy and has a wide range of adjustment.

One good/great thing about this harness is that it keeps the kids in an upright position when they fall or hang as the tie-in point is higher than a regular harness. This is nice as you never know what kids are going to do, and once they are 10' above you, it is hard to do anything about it!

Another big plus is the color and pattern.

            Great zipline harness

My 2 1/2 and 5 1/2 year old grandkids wear this for the backyard zip line and it works great. Especially for the little one that tries to hang upside down and was letting go unexpectedly on the saucer swing we previously used. Now I am comfortable with them going the full height and length of the line. Seems like there is plenty of grow room for both of them.

              Sending it at 3!

Bought for my nephew who is 3 and also based upon another review. Leg loops are a bit large but to be expected since he is only 3. Holds him really secure and looks like bomber construction, probably better than some adult harnesses. Only criticism I have is that maybe the leg loop area between his legs could be padded but other than that, highly recommended for a youngster starting off.

                Sending it at 3!

                Zipline Systems, LLC

I use this for my Zip Line business. Also for my son who is 3 years old. I've seen all body types and shapes fit into this harness, and it always looks fits the same one every kid. I would send 3 year olds flying down a zip line 650 feet long doing about 20 mph to a controlled stop. from 20 - 0 in 7 feet. Never had one incident. This harness is awesome, and I wish they made one that would fit my six fot frame. I recommend this harness to everyone, and Im suprised that it isnt that expensive. specially for a Petzl brand

                  Great Harness for Kids!!!

This is an amazing harness. I bought this for my 3 almost 4 year old daughter. to do a lot of gym climbing. and she loves it. It is pretty dummy proof (thank goodness). the only thing I would say is a negative about it would be, I wish the legs were padded, so it would be a little gentle on her lady parts in a fall or a slip. but otherwise it works amazing and is super suppotive for her and there is plenty of room for her to grow in it! I would DEF recommend this to a friend!!!

                    Great harness for kids

My kids use this at the gym all the time. Except for when they hang in it for a long time(they complain of wedgies and crotch tightness) they find it very comfortable. The discomfort they have doesn't seem to bother them that much. They like this one better than the Simba, and this one still has plenty of room for growth.

This harness is just a tad too small for our 10.5 year old daughter. What do you recommend as the next size up but this same style? She is a wire walker and is training on a higher wire that we have set up a safety line for and now are need for the harness.

                      Hey Sara Wunderle,

Thanks for your question. I am sorry that this harness did not work out for you. First off I want to direct you to our customer service department either via livechat 24/7 or by calling 1 800 409 4502 one of our representatives can help you set up an exchange. As far as a new harness to exchange to I would suggest the CAMP USA Bambino Full Body Harness. It runs slightly larger than this harness so I hope that it will work out for your daughter.

We are planning to use this over a treadmill...

We are planning to use this over a treadmill to help my daughter work on her gait dysorder. Tis harness seems to have the support and serve the same purpose as the rlight gait harness which cost 3x the cost of this. My issue is I need to keep her up right while she is hanging/ swinging over the treadmill. She will never be alone. But seems like the hook go in the chest and wondering if it would do the same as if they were in the shoulders

Diana, this is a sturdy harness that is secure and safe. The only issue could be that with the chest tie-in point it could cause her to lean back a small amount where a shoulder tie-in would promote a more upright position. You could also try tying in differently.

You could give it a try and return it if the angle is not correct. Backcountry has a no questions asked return policy but you would have to pay return shipping. If you add a cheap item (energy bar) or something you would get free shipping to you if you spend over $50.

I wish the best for your daughter!

Does this harness adjust to a smaller size...

Does this harness adjust to a smaller size than the Simba? Are there differences between the two, other than that this one has non-adjustable, padded legs? I'm having a hard time deciding between the two. Thanks!

My child has Autism and she would love to "fly like Peter Pan". Would that work with this harness.

                      Best Answer

This is specifically a climbing harness for kids. Most harnesses are called 'seat' harnesses for a reason, because they put you in a sitting position when they are weighted. This goes around the child's shoulders to keep them upright in case of a fall or when lowering, similar to a chest harness. The tie in is in front of the body. So in all, I wouldn't recommend it for how you want to use it.

Actually, Peter Pan stayed mostly upright while flying, if you can find an overhang your child will love it. But be prepared, he may start to prefer the swinging to the climbing. I work with many children who have autism, and it's a fairly popular theme, especially to make the descent less scary!

Are the leg straps adjustable? My child has skinny legs and was curious about the fit.

No, they aren't adjustable. However, there are a variety of sizes if you look at the sizing chart, you can pick the one that fits best. I've used these with smaller children on ropes courses and they work great (a little big is okay).
