Mambo Standard Climbing Rope
The Petzl Mambo Standard Climbing Rope is the perfect choice for beginners who want to escape the plastic-pulling gyms and get on some real rock. Its 10.1-millimeter diameter is excellent for new belayers who need to refine their rope-handling skills. Petzl equipped this rope with a thick sheath for enhanced abrasion-resistance, an UltraSonic finish to eliminate frayed ends for better durability, and a ClimbReady Coil so you can uncoil it without any mistakes. All of these features give this rope an exquisite fall rating so you can climb with this rope for many years. The middle mark helps you find the middle of the rope for rappelling. Get the 50-meter rope if you still want to climb in the gym, the 60 for typical sport routes, or the 70 if you want to tackle some of the longest pitches out there.

Durable and High-Quality Rope
This was my first, and still is my only rope. I have been climbing on it for over a year now, and while it does show some signs of wear, I am still loving it. It is a very durable rope. It is very convenient that it comes with the half-way marks clearly shown. Comes in very handy when rappelling. After owning this rope and being so impressed, it would be hard to go with another brand besides Petzl when given the choice between the two. I will add that this rope is a bit pricey, but I feel it has been worth the investment. Extremely satisfied.

good projecting rope
This rope feeds really smoothly through my belay devices, doesn't kink very easily and the middle mark is really helpful for long rappels. Over all its pretty good if your looking for a fat rope.

Best fat rope ever!
I've only climbed on this rope in the gym, but after using my buddies, it was a no brainer purchase! This is a tough, burly rope, that handles insanely well. No kinks, feeds super smooth, feels good in hand for clips. Absolutely love this rope.

Great 1st rope
Great beginning rope. This is my first rope and I'm happy with how it handles in the climbing gym and outside. It's easy to use with my ATC and doesn't kink. The middle mark is pretty easy to find/see. So far so good!

A wonderful rope - great for beginners
This was my first rope (the 70 m) and the more I have used other ropes the more I love it. It is very supple, knots easily, and doesn't get kinky. I've owned it for over a year now, climbing a few times every week in the summer, and it is only just starting to get a tiny bit fuzzy. The one negative thing I'll say about it is that it does seem to get dirty a bit easier than other ropes I've used. Just take care of it and you'll be fine. A small sacrifice for how nicely it runs through belay devices. As far as I'm concerned, for the price, it can't be beat.

I'm curious if I'm missing something but why does Petzl describe this as a "gym rope"? All reviews I've read describe this as a work horse outdoor rope designed for beginners. I realize it isn't treated but...

Hey Jason, With the tech of this rope and the diameter Petzl designed this as a gym or crag rope. Low static and diameter designed for belay use. It will have your middle mark for manuevering and the 'ClimbReady Coil' for longevity and to prevent uncoiling, etc. Let us know if this answered your question, if not no worries. Feel free to hop on chat or give us a call for more in depth details on this rope.

Anyone using this rope for technical ice climbing?
November 13, 2015
Hoyawolf, At 10.1mm this is a bit burly for ice climbing. I'd be looking more at the Mammut Genesis or Mammut Phoenix ropes for a half or double rope system. Shoot me an email anytime you have questions! Jared D. Expert Gearhead 801.736.4336 firstname.lastname@example.org

Yeah, it is a bit burly for ice but I'm thinking a good all around rope for multi-disciplines...

Hoyawolf,. I'd check out a rope in the 9.0-9.2 mm range personally. I'd be looking at any of the following item numbers: BEA0019 MAM00DA BWR3217 Jared D. Expert Gearhead 801.736.4336 email@example.com

Hey Akilu, At 65 grams/meter the 60 meter rope would weight just over 8.5 lbs.
