    The go-anywhere, climb-anything helmet.

Petzl designed its Elios Climbing Helmet with versatility in mind, so you can stay safe whether you're rock or ice climbing, mountaineering, caving, canyoneering, or hitting up a via ferrata. Its lightweight ABS shell meets all the standard certifications for climbing, and the expanded polystyrene liner is breathable and prevents the helmet from moving around on your dome while you climb. You can adjust the headband and chin strap for an ideal fit across your noggin, too. Petzl also integrated shutters over the vents so you can close them when you climb in colder temps, and made sure the Elios was compatible with headlamps and the Vizion eye shield (sold separately) so you can be ready for whatever route comes your way.

    Solid helmet

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a solid helmet that does a great job protecting your head. I have a 19 inch head circumference and went with the size 1. It is very adjustable so I can wear it directly on my head, or over a ball cap or a stocking cap in colder weather. I have used this helmet for Sport climbing both single and multi itch routes as well as Ice climbing. The Adjustable ventilation allows you to regulate the temperature of you head. It is fairly light and doesn't feel bulky on your head when you are climbing.
Helmets in general are not the most stylish pieces of equipment, but when it comes to protecting your brain, Function over Fashion.
I only gave it 4 stars because there are lighter and more comfortable helmets out there, you just have to pay twice as much for them.

    Doesn't stay adjusted

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

the internal plastic adjusters don't stay put, meaning I was constantly distracted by trying to keep the helmet on my head while on route and on belay at the crag. Glad i picked this up on sale, sad I won't be able to use it.

    Not comfortable for me

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Maybe it's just me, but I thought this helmet wasn't that comfortable. If you can find the Meteor on sale, it's a much better deal.

    Superior Comfort

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I recently used this helmet down in Moab Utah for a day of rappelling. It was so comfortable and light, I put my hat in my pack and just kept it there. I would definitely recommend, and have!

Continues to be the standard underground

We've been using this helmet for years mapping caves around the world. One aspect of this helmet is how easy it can be disassembled and cleaned, especially now in the age of WNS (white nose syndrome) decon protocol.
