    Elia Climbing Helmet

Designed specifically for women, the Petzl Elia Climbing Helmet is equipped for whatever the adventure—so you can send safely and comfortably, without having to worry about busting your noggin. Not to mention, this helmet's innovative Omega headband gives you an ideal fit, even with a cumbersome ponytail. And you can attach any of Petzl's headlamps to this helmet for when you end up rappelling off the route after the sunset.

    Difficult to adjust

I have spent nearly an hour trying to adjust this helmet properly. I have even watched several videos online. Also apparently you have to readjust it every time you put it on and you can't adjust the strap around your ears. I would not recommend buying this without trying it first because it does not adjust easily. I tried on the Boreo model in stores and asked one of the employees here on the chat feature if it fit similarly and he was not helpful. It DOES NOT fit similarly.

    Smartly designed and actually fits!

    Familiarity:I've used it several times

I love this helmet for at least three reasons. Silly, but I love the color! So bright and fun! After extensive research, what really made me decide go with this helmet is the nifty back design that actually allows for pony tails! I didn't know about the other design/fit features at time of purchase, but I truly love what Petzl has done to ensure a good fit around my above average sized head. The combination of the sliding of the back part and its tightening allow for a truly customized fit. I really appreciate the way the back part seems to hug the base of your skull. It feels very secure, which is just such a satisfying feeling when you're gearing up for your next climb! AND it's a pretty sharp looking' helmet! which is just nice after borrowing or trying on some others... And of course of course, it protects my head from rockfall or nasty whips. I couldn't be happier with this helmet.

    Tried and Tested

Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Took a good whip with this thing and it preserved my noggin!! The damage could have been worse, but the extended rim on the front of the Petzl Elia took the bulk of the impacts, providing much better protection than a flatter edged helmet would have. Feels good to feel safe when climbing in this helmet. Super lightweight too. And duh cute. Mega fan of the Petzl Elia!!

    Streamlined

Familiarity:I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Bought this helmet for my climbing partner and she let me know that she loves it. Some people aren't on ~team helmet~ but this helmet is your last line of defense in the event of rockfall. Plus she has the benefit of choosing a great looking helmet.

For all the helmet haters :D

Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I have wild, hard to manage curly hair, therefore I HATE wearing helmets. This one fits my big (I blame my hair) head and works wonderfully. I love the adjustable things it has, so it feels secure, but also roomy enough to not make my head feel smushed. My poor helmet is all beat up and scratched up, but it shows that I put it to good use. :)

    Pretty (and safe) in pink

Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Normally I wouldn't buy things in pink, but at the time of purchase it was the only color available. It makes it easy to spot me on the crag for pics and the helmet itself is super comfy. I have a larger head, and find it hard to get helmets in any sport that fit my head, but this one does! And it gives me the freedom to wear my hair in more than just one way. Also lightweight, so it doesn't bog down packs for long approaches. Definitely recommend it for lady crushers!!!!

Wear a helmet, rule the world!

    Familiarity:I've used it several times

YAY! A lightweight helmet made for bad ass women. Thanks Petzl for thinking of us and our cute ponytails (or hair, whatever, see picture). Aside from the little cutout, the shape is attractive, not too bulky, and offers solid protection. Keep on climbing, ladies.

    YAY!

Ponytail space is a game changer!

Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Finally a helmet design that allows me to wear my hair comfortably! After trying this one, I could never go back to the typical design that either pushes a ponytail against my skull resulting in a quick headache or lifts to slide down my forehead. The size was very comfortable for me and the adjustment tabs give me enough range to wear it with or without a hat under. Lightweight and great protection! Highly recommend!

Finally Fits my Mane of Hair

Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Never underestimate how much a pony-tail adapter WILL SAVE YOU. A regular helmets never fails to be pushed up by all my hair, leaving me with a helmet that sits too awkwardly far forward on my face. The fit is often loose, and hard to adjust, making the helmet not as safe as it should be, and making it difficult or annoying to wear while climbing. The pony-tail adapter allows me to easily secure the helmet to my head and adjust it to fit my noggin perfectly. It is comfortable, cute, and fairly lightweight. I've hit my head on quite a number of holds, and while the helmet looks moderately scuffed and scratched, it still remains reliable and durable. Other reviews mention it not fitting small heads. There are definitely less adjustment options then other helmets on the market (The Elia only has 2 areas that it can tighten/loosen at + the chin strap), but I have not had any issues at all with it not fitting my head properly. I have a regular sized head (I think).

    Fits my Gf's petite head

Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

We decided to take a risk and try this helmet despite some of the sizing comments. I would consider my gf to be petite, 5'1 105 lbs, and this helmet fits great. She has worn the helmet with different hairstyles and has never had a complaint. She regularly wears it while leading sport routes. This is her first helmet.

Finally a helmet my fiance wants to wear

Familiarity:I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I've been canyoneering for around 7 years now, and have seen a lot of rock falls; some of which have landed on friends' helmets and arms. When I met my fiance she mentioned she goes canyoneering, but doesnt wear a helmet. She said that all the helmets she tried were way too hot and uncomfortable and never wanted to wear one. I tried for a long time to convince her to wear one because I wanted her to be safe, but she said no. I finally got her to try this helmet on at the store, and she had this surprised look on her face and actually said she loves how it feels, and she will wear it canyoneering and climbing multi-pitch. Im relieved that she'll be safe from the rock falls when we go climbing and canyoneering.

    Good helmet, but...

So overall this is an awesome helmet. I let my friend borrow it on a recent climbing trip we went on. Over all the design and the tighting system is awesome. However like others have said if you have a tiny head this wont fit. If you have a normal noggin i would highly recommend it.

    Thoughtful Product

Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

An actual women specific helmet!! Has a cutout in the back of the helmet to accommodate ponytails. Thank you for whomever thought to put it there because my helmets in the past have always annoyed me because I have no idea what to do with my ridiculously long hair.

    Too big for pea heads

Only 3 stars as I can't really rate the helmet-I have a smallish head and even on the smallest setting, was too large for me. Not for small noggins!

Hey Sarah - I just wore my for an extended period of time this weekend (previously had worn it for one route at a time), and though the same thing about it being too big. Did you wind up going with a different helmet? Thanks!

    Great for ponytails!

    Familiarity:I've used it several times

Got this helmet for my girlfriend and she loves it! Her favorite feature is the cutout in the headband that lets her comfortably wear a ponytail or bun while climbing. It is also lightweight and adjusting the fit is super easy with the slider tabs on the side of the helmet.

    Loving the cutout

Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

The helmet is light, has a great design, and is very comfy. Doesn't make me feel clunky, and the ponytail cutout is great for keeping hair out of my face without having to tie it right at my neck. The headband is adjusted from the outside which lets me adjust it when I'm up a couple pitches without having to take it off. If you'd like to be able to tie your hair up instead of at your neck, this helmet is probably the best option.

What size is the helmet? I've read reviews that it doesn't fit people with small heads

Can this be worn with a beanie and/or fleece ear band in cold weather?

Hi Mollie! You certainly can! I wear a Buff or a thin Mammut beanie under my helmet when I'm climbing. You just might have to increase the chin strap size! Climb on!
