I received these as a gift sometime around the year 1999, so the design is at least a few decades old. I've used them multiple times in varying degrees of ice and snow, they perform much like 14 point crampons minus the front points. Very easy to use and they are always secure on my foot. They are on the heavy side compared to micro spikes, I almost never pack them anymore in favor of something lighter.

I think if weight isn't a concern and you want a solid bite in some low angle snow or ice these are great( ie. ice fishing)
