X-ALP Journey Cycling Shoe

We have a tendency to think of the most wild and rugged landscapes when the word "adventure" comes to mind, but much like beauty, adventure is in the eye on the beholder. This, to us, means it can be found far beyond the last cell tower, or by diving into something with a new perspective. When you're unsure of what the adventure may come from that lies ahead of you, throw on a pair of the Pearl Izumi Women's X-ALP Journey Mountain Bike Shoes. Dialed for versatility, they happily tread from the paved streets of your home town, to wild excursions in Alaska, crossing rivers, and keeping your footing sure are you step onto sandy beaches of glacial lagoons — or an exploratory ride through the city.

Dirt, sand, mud and water won't phase you in the X-ALP Journeys, they're built for it all with a bonded, seamless upper and mesh construction that breathes with ease. They slip on with a bootie-style upper construction that allows you to skip socks when you're going to be charging across rivers, or a rainstorm three days into your bikepacking trip kept your socks from drying out overnight. The quick-lacing closure system is perfect for securing your foot in place in various conditions, so your footing stays secure when you hit the trail on foot, and your heel doesn't lift when you're out of the saddle pushing up a climb. Underfoot you'll find a balanced composition of EVA for soaking up rocks and roots when you're hiking, and a fiberglass injected composite shank that elevates stiffness for power transfer on the bike. The outsole uses a carbon rubber compound, designed for superior traction and durability, with aggressive lugs for grabbing the trail, and strategic cutouts to flex with your step where its natural so a long section of hike-a-bike doesn't leave your foot cramping.

  • Take on your adventure with breathable, quick-drying kicks
  • Bonded seamless uppers breathe and stand the test of time
  • Bootie-style closure allows for comfort without socks
  • Mesh construction lets air move through for fast drying
  • Quick-lace closure keeps your foot secure
  • Fiberglass injected shank adds stiffness for power transfer
  • Cushion your feet with lightweight EVA support
  • Carbon rubber lugs grip the trail when you're on foot

I purchased a size 40, which usually works for me. I'm a size 9 US. However, my big toe hit the front of the shoe. When I purchased the 41, I felt like I was swimming in the shoe. The sole seems sturdy, but I'm not sure how the thin string would hold up over time (though it does feel tough). I'm going to have to try another style.

Hello, I wanted to know if you have wide feet, because I do and I am thinking of buying these and I am probably going to go up a size

Do you have to use cleats to use these when indoor cycling?

How is the width & toebox in these shoes?

Hi Meghann! These shoes are "form fit" and some report their normal size to be tight in the front and not the most room in the toe area depending on which size you order. Most people report that they are really comfortable though. I went through some reviews on Pearl Izumi's site for this info if you'd like to check it out!
